This thread is for discussing that final rope in Randall permenantly burning his bridge behind him. I think it is obvious that in the climax of 'Monsters 3', Mike, Sulley, and Boo need to face a devastating blow at the villain's hands, rendering all of them powerless, so that they will all be at Randall's mercy when he saves the day. It would also be poignant to hear Sulley cry out desperately for help and begging for his life... in a similar manner to the way Randall did when Sulley banished him through the door... only for Randall, no one was there to help him when HE was begging for his life. So, to have the tables turned and have SULLEY begging for his life would give Randall the golden opportunity to be a true friend, and come to his aid - not that Randall believes he deserves it, but because his deepest convictions cannot let him be so heartless as to abandon Sulley to his fate.
If Randall freed Boo from the villain's clutches and started speaking gently to her, telling her it's okay and that he's not going to hurt her, Boo would start to see Randall in a whole new light, and Sulley needs to see that firsthand.
The audience needs to see Mike, Sulley, and Boo brought to a point where Randall is the ONLY one that can save them.

The above, with regards to Randall and Boo, would depend on how soon they were reunited. The brains of human children "re-wire" themselves at roughly four years of age; every memory stored up until that point, with the exception of "muscle memory", like learning how to walk and feed themselves, is literally erased unless it has been constantly reinforced on a regular basis, like remembering family members and close friends, for instance. Boo and Sulley were reunited a year later, so Boo would have been around 3 1/2, but had Sulley had to wait just a few more months, Boo would not have remembered or recognized him. She might have reacted with great fear of him at that point. If she is reunited with Randall after the age of four, she will not know who he is or what he did. She might still be afraid of him, or she might think he's cute, or just think he's some sort of animal until he speaks. She will have no memory of him being her Scarer, or of the Scream Extractor, or the chase through the Door Vault, or of beating him over the head with a plastic bat, or of him being thrown through that door. They will be starting from scratch, as it were. If enough years have passed, Randall probably won't recognize HER, either, because children change a LOT in just a few years! Randall would have seen a lot of human kids during his career as a Scarer, always in the dark, always blurry(no glasses), so his memory of her face would have already been distorted. Someone would have to tell him who she was, to make that connection.
