Since the recent shooting, many Internet posters have taken the opportunity to use fictional characters in different Fandoms to show parallels to the shooter and warn people of guys like him. And guess who one of those characters was? Yep, Randall, as baffling as it may seem. There was one tumblr post that said Randall was a good example of an entitled "nice guy" with similarities to the shooter. I thought it was a joke, and it did make me laugh, but I ended up re blogging a rebuttal to that post and adding my own rebuttal here: valemuza.tumblr.com/post/87397921800#notesYou can tell I never use this tumblr lol.

I saw that horrible travesty. Sad thing is, these people really do believe that. Most of them absolutely despise all males in the first place, so in their eyes, Randall is already damned for having that pesky y chromosome. To them, anything he does is evil by default simply due to his gender. I did not even respond to that post directly because honestly it was too stupid to deserve that much consideration.

Well, a lot of hardcore social justice posts completely generalize both males and females, and I consider it offensive to both of us. Don't get me wrong, social justice is important and I think some posts are right on, but then there's the danger of just going too far the other end, which is basically stereotyping/generalizing/being prejudiced towards straights, whites, and/or males, or really anyone.
In my daily non-internet life however, I hear a lot more sexist remarks towards women than men (and see it, lived it, etc), and more prejudice towards homosexuals in particular, etc. It doesn't help that my family will converse about those matters...none of them approve of homosexuality, they'll generalize the black population at times, one of my male family members is actually a misogynist and another male holds that women and men should be boxed into traditional gender roles (and he's proud to hate homosexuals and liberals, yep, those are his exact words). Even today I overheard the family having a conversation that was fairly sexist against women (a woman was even joining in the conversation). Let's just say I was offended.
HOWEVER, since I have a male family member I love who legitimately struggles with misogyny as a sickness, I don't appreciate the strawmen arguments people make with them, and the generalizations people have with them. He may be misogynistic, but he is a complex individual and is not evil, and he loves his daughters and when he hears of women getting raped and murdered he gets mad. He's done bad things, treated his past wives badly, and during some of his little rants about women we've had to get the kids out of the room, and some other things I won't mention. But it's just insulting when people who don't know a real misogynist talk about "misogynistic men" and make strawmen arguments. On the one hand, I condemn that family member's viewpoints and past actions, but on the other, I can't help but feel offended about some things in social justice posts that oversimplify things.
That goes with all my other family members too, they have a lot of great qualities and I love them despite my disagreements with them.
But wow I've gotten completely off topic haha!

Wait, wait, wait... you only THINK Randall's done messed up stuff. Like I was suggesting on the 'Plot twists and revelations' thread, an alternate explanation could be provided for all of Randall's actions in the climax of a third film.
