Adrian Monk: "Here's what happened... I mean, here's what really happened."
Severus Snape: "Look at me... you have your mother's eyes."
Yep. As you already guessed, this thread is for discussing any plot twist or revelation possibilities - however shocking or astronomic they may be - that would show Randall's true heart and motivations throughout events in both 'Monsters University' and 'Monsters, Inc.'. In other words, scenarios that would serve as alternate explanations of Randall's most controversial moments, like what led to him dumping the stuffed animals, or the scene where Randall tells Mike to 'put the kid back'. What we see in the film could have been PRECISELY what he wanted, and he captured Mike on purpose. Could have been like the huntsman from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs substituting Snow White's heart for the heart of a pig (Randall would have known that between the two, Boo's life was in danger with Waternoose around, moreso than Mike, as Waternoose had not put Mike on the top of his hit list, and if this be the case, Randall was ALREADY risking his own life by putting Mike in the Scream Extractor.). He was doing something that Waternoose had not told him to do. When Randall asked Mike "Where is it, you little one-eyed cretin?", he could have been asking out of concern for the child's safety behind an angry facade, and besides, we never see EXACTLY what happens between Randall and Waternoose while Mike and Sulley are banished in the Himalayas. He could have hesitated to put Boo in the Scream Extractor chair initially, but Waternoose forced him to do it by the time the CAMERA shows them again.
The possibilities are endless! EVERYTHING that happened off-screen between plot points is up for debate!

I've entertained the possibility that perhaps Randall himself was an undercover operative, working for some other organization, to expose the corruption at MI, because he'd always suspected that Sullivan was involved in something unethical and illegal, and finding out that Waternoose was, too. The whole thing with building the Scream Extractor and seeming to go along with Waternoose's orders was part of the organization's plans to expose what was going on at MI. This explained, partially, why he set the Scream Extractor on such a low power setting when he had Boo, and also Mike, in the seat. Randall thought that Mike was involved in rigging the Scare Board, along with Sulley, and wanted him to spill the beans.

AH! Finally!
You have NO idea how long I've pondered this. It all stems from the fact that I've always thought Randall was smarter (intellectually) than Waternoose all along, for one thing. I've thought that after Waternoose showed him the Scream Extractor, Randall was able to see through Waternoose's scam, and openly confronted him about it. He tells him angrily that he's a liar and that he has NO interest in kidnapping or hurting anybody. He even says to him "I'm gonna turn you into the CDA.", but this lights a power fuse in Waternoose. He seizes Randall by the throat and says "Don't you dare cross me.", and he tells him point-blank that if he doesn't comply with his orders, he'll kill Mike, then he'll kill Randall. Plus, I also love the idea of showing clearly that it is NOT in Randall's nature to kidnap and/or hurt people... which means he was threatened and forced into doing the Scream Extractor.
After this, Randall realizes that he has to protect Boo from Waternoose, while at the SAME time, APPEAR to be carrying out his orders. He wants to save the factory, but he doesn't want anyone to get hurt on his account. Randall ALREADY understands that Waternoose is manipulative, and does what he can to find a way out... maybe tell Celia what's really going on, but not let anyone else know - least of all, Waternoose. (Maybe there WAS something to Celia saying "YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT PACK OF LIES, MIKE WAZOWSKI?")
I think that ultimately, Randall WAS planning on turning Waternoose into the authorities, but never got the chance. Once Randall's true motivations have been revealed, I also think it would be nice to hear a reprise of "Boo's Theme", as Randall's backstory comes to a close.
