HERE'S a new idea:
What if everything we saw Randall do in 'Monsters, Inc.' turned out to be just flat out wrong? Negative fan opinions on Randall accumulated over a decade doesn't matter! It doesn't amount to a hill of beans, not from the WRITER'S perspective! All it takes is ONE to say he's good! What if 'Monsters 3' has a revelation so gargantuan about Randall, that it unravels the very foundation of everything we THOUGHT we knew about him from the very beginning? (Like Severus Snape?)
What if Randall simply PRETENDED to kidnap Boo for Waternoose's benefit, but TRULY... in the back of his mind, he had no intentions of killing Boo AT ALL, but just went through the motions to avoid being killed? What if Waternoose blackmailed Randall into the whole thing? What if Randall's use of the Scream Extractor was just an elaborate deception to get Waternoose to start to feel complacent, but secretly, Randall HATED the device and was actually planning on turning Waternoose into the monster authorities ALL ALONG? True, that would mean that Randall fooled EVERYONE around him, but what if he actually knew more about humans than anybody else?
What if Randall learned in some top-secret restricted section of the Monsters University library that humans being toxic was all a lie fabricated by the Monstropolis government... crucial hush-hush information that monsters would kill for, and he kept it to himself?
What if Randall's anger toward Sulley was never about the scare record, but simply that he couldn't relax and be himself? What if his withholding the crucial information that humans are not toxic was to protect Mike and Sulley? What if that grin on Randall's face when he opened the door to the Himalayas for Waternoose to banish Mike and Sulley was ALL part of an act for Waternoose's benefit, and in actuality, Randall was planning on biding his time, getting rid of Waternoose, then going back to the SAME door... to bring Mike and Sulley back into the Monster World? What if Randall WAS planning on coming clean in the end, but never got the chance?
What if it was ALL a setup... and in actuality, Randall is the very OPPOSITE of what most fans have been led to believe? Like Harry Potter's godfather, Sirius Black, turned out to be?
WHY do I ask these questions, you ask? To analyze a story, I don't just analyze what I did see, I also analyze what I didn't see. Am I accustomed to seeing such plot twists??? You better believe I am...
