This thread is for discussing ANY and ALL sightings of Randall Boggs in both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.
Rides, Attractions, Store Merchandise, Hotel Décor, Parades, Shows, even Limited Edition Popcorn Containers. If your favorite purple monster is sighted anywhere in any of the Disney Parks, share it and discuss it here!

I have not been to a Disney park since 2003, and there was absolutely NOTHING Randall related at all then. Of course, now they have MI rides at both US parks, and unfortunately still have that one in Japan where Randall gets killed and crushed into a cube in the trash compactor...wonder how well that goes in Japan where Randall is hugely popular, much more than he is here in the US?

Hmm I've been to Disney World in Orlando several times in the past. The most recent was when I was 16 (I'm 19 now), I went twice that year, once with all my cousins and once with just my family. We all love the Laugh Floor there, and my uncle was Mike one time I think they chose him because he's bald. Randall isn't in the laugh floor though. I don't remember seeing much Randall merchandise, other than Disney pins. It might've been because I didn't look for it in the past though. I mostly hung around Epcot, because I loved the countries and got all my merch from Japan and China (same with my big brother, he loves anime). If I ever go to Disney World again, I'd concentrate on Magic Kingdom, partly to search for Randall merch and partly to check out the new Fantasyland and Beast's Castle. Last time I was there, it was under construction. I've ridden all the other rides there minus the water rides.

Okay... in the Monsters, Inc. Ride at Disney's California Adventure, there are a total of 5 separate appearances Randall makes throughout the ride (nothing extra, it just follows the basic story of the movie. In fact, pitbulllady... IF you have not seen a video of this ride on YouTube, prepare to go 'yeah, yeah, yeah', because Randall is very much displayed as the stereotypical Disney villain. His eyes even glow in the dark to further propel the 'evil' factor.). I expect they all expect for all the tourists to scream artificially whenever he appears (roll eyes)... well, not me... obviously. I mean, it's not a BAD ride... I, myself, have ridden it 3 times, and admittedly, it's quite enjoyable, and I still enjoy SEEING Randall... simply because I like him, but you get the picture.
See the Monsters, Inc. Ride video and tell me what you think.
You may also find it odd that twice during the Pixar Play Parade that comes around in California Adventure, when the 'Monsters' characters show up, I always naievely expected to see Randall, BUT..... Randall does NOT appear in the parade. Since it's like I said - I missed the boat on that - it just never occurred to me that since Disney assumed that WE assumed that the MONSTERS assumed that Randall was a pure evil villain, we didn't want to see him... but as a result, there is just this sort of hole in the group. Boo-hoo!
Let's see... I may have seen Randall in the World of Disney Store, though I can't say this for certain.

My family is planning on going to Disney World in winter, so I'll let you guys know if I see anything I'm also looking out for Oogie Boogie and Lotso! Of the three, I'll probably have the most luck with Lotso though.

Sickos... I saw a YouTube video of the Japan 'Monsters, Inc.' ride in Disneyland Tokyo, and saw that bit where Randall is killed in the trash compactor. That truly offended me... I mean how many jeering eyes have leered over that poor monster's misshapen form? As if Randall doesn't have any feelings? Then YUCK! Follow that with a sappy hug from Boo, as if we're all supposed to care more about HER than Randall! (Boo is clearly a SECONDARY character, while Randall is a MAIN character, so that just doesn't fly with me. Sorry.)
I suppose this ride was made before 'Monsters University' so I may be getting ahead of myself here, but still... I certainly know of ONE ride I will never be getting on!

I suppose this ride was made before 'Monsters University' so I may be getting ahead of myself here, but still... I certainly know of ONE ride I will never be getting on! Yes, the Tokyo Disney ride, "Ride and Go Seek", was made long before MU was even announced. I really loathe that thing. It was a source of huge debate here, with one former member defending it, saying that it was just an example of Japanese sense of humor and that anyone who hated that Randall is crushed into a cube must hate the Japanese themselves, and since she was all into Manga and Anime she found that offensive. I saw nothing funny about it at all, and I have to wonder how it's being received now, and how well those "dead Randall" stuffed toys, etc. are selling now that MU has come out and the Japanese have really taken to Randall. On a side note, though, Boo WAS a main character and has a lot more screen time in MI than Randall does. Pretty much the entire time we see Mike and Sulley, Boo is there with them. pitbulllady

Just a thought what makes the Japanese love him so much?

Just a thought what makes the Japanese love him so much? The Japanese seem to have a cultural "thing" for monsters, and reptilian scaly monsters come pretty close to be dragon-like, and dragons, of course, represent positive energy in many Eastern cultures. I don't know why-maybe this is cultural, too-but they seem more accepting of the notion of monsters and other non-human sapient creatures as being people. Of the entire MI/MU universe, Randall, Johnny and Javier seem to be the most popular. pitbulllady

Okay, then why also Johnny and Javier?

Okay, then why also Johnny and Javier? I can't explain that, lol. Both have proven very popular in both Japan and Hong Kong, though. pitbulllady
