Across the Web people have been saying things like: Randall REALLY IS the villain! He was in charge of the plot and Waternoose was the henchman! He needed to repay Mike for making him scary! You can't just say he was grouchy and tired, he attempted murder! Yep, we need support.

This has been going on since MI first came out. A lot of the Randall hate stems right now from TVTropes.net, which pretty much has gone out of its way to attack not only Randall, but his fans, and will NOT allow anyone to rebut their claims, either. That's where the Big Lie about Randall plotting to kill WATERNOOSE came from, because someone posted on there that his statement to Waternoose-"There WON'T be"-when Waternoose ordered him to go after Mike, Sulley and Boo, saying, "there can't be any witnesses", indicated that he planned to "off" Waternoose himself as a witness! Talk about ludicrous!
Randall DID attempt murder, but then, there's a big difference between "attempted" and actual First Degree, premeditated MURDER, which is exactly what Mike and Sulley committed if indeed Randall did die in that Cajun trailer! Anyone who would think that a relative "nobody" like Randall would be in control of the CEO of a major corporation, though, needs to have their head examined, and I make no apologies for stating that. Mike didn't "make Randall scary", either. IF I recall correctly from MU, it was RANDALL who was helping MIKE, and we see that not once, but TWICE, as Randall is calling out quiz questions to MIKE, not the other way around! You can't post that on TVTropes, though, or it will be deleted. This is like the person on Tumblr who said that JOHNNY was afraid of RANDALL, and therefore found it no surprise later that Randall would do some awful things, because...wait for it...Randall followed Johnny's orders in MU! What kind of logic is THAT?

There is probably a proper term for this...but I'm just winging it. I call it the "Dredging Revival" practice.
See, it's been 12 years since MI...and a lot of people don't know about the original...a whole new "wave" of movers and shakers and speakers. We've talked MANY a topic about MI and Randall in general and have revealed, facted, and disputed many things... But then MU comes about. Now that new "wave" arrives...and they're...well...ignorant. Not to say it's a bad thing, ignorance isn't always an insult. Anyway, this wave comes in...and they just believe the initial concepts. Some concepts several of us have ALREADY GONE OVER. In some ways, it's annoying. Some think they bring a new topic to the table or that they have some new concept to show but it's already been done. Sure, some of them are new and inviting...
But yes, these claims and the like are, as many of us know, false and rather foolish. It is just the common rabblings of ignorant masses that have yet (or won't) to see the reason we've come to. Honestly, don't think too much on the absurdity...
As for TvTropes...on the whole...I find the site enjoyable. Lots of little trope bits with catchy names that crop up in an all manner of media...could spend the day on that site finding connections. As MI/MU...ok yeah the "kick the dog" bit entry isn't really right for him..."the mole" comment "grossly vile" goes to Waternoose, which is kind of fitting...and yeah the Starscream bit is wrong...got the breakdown bit close enough though. And the MU page seems to be better.
Overall, as said, don't think too much on the absurdity...many of us have gone over this stuff so much it's like leaving grooves in the wood. It's a tiring practice...humans just don't learn quick enough.

I think what we have to accept is that most people take things at face value and don't look into them too deeply or take the trouble to read between the lines. Especially not for a 'cartoon'. The merchendice says he's the villain so as far as they're concerned that's that. Even the plot summery on Wikkipedia says that Randall's the main villain, not Waternoose. So 'Randall is the villain' is the starting premise, it's there writen in black and white as a fact so, in their minds, anyone who says it's not true must be wrong. Most people I know, even Monsters Inc. fans, when I tell them Randall is my favourite say "Which one is Randall?". Although, after I've reminded them, they all said they had a more positive oppinion of him after MU. The only person who really argues with me that Randall is the main villain is my Mum, but I know she's just playing devil's advocate and don't really care one way or the other.
