So, umm...hi! A little bit about myself...
I guess I have a sort of personal attachment to Monsters Inc. It was the first movie I saw after the 9/11 attacks on my hometown of New York City. That was a very surreal era of my life, but going out to the theaters and watching an awesome Pixar movie turned out to be rather therapeutic for me. It kind of helped me feel as though things were returning to normal, if that makes any sense. Because of that, Monsters Inc will always be special to me.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie very much, but I remember feeling sad about what happened to Randall. Out of all the characters, he was the one who I thought about the most once the movie was over.
Anyway, flash forward 10+ years...a prequel to Monsters Inc is released, and naturally, I'm excited to see more of my favorite character from the first movie. Learning that Randall started out as a nervous, naive boy made me love him even more. It also made his fate in Monsters Inc even sadder...but maybe this is a sign that Pixar has future plans for him? That's my hope, anyhow.

Hi, topaki! I can echo your sentiments about Randall. I missed seeing MU in theaters, actually; my grandfather had just passed away in late August, leaving me to care for my invalid grandmother AND work a full-time job, then I broke my foot shortly after the 9/11 attacks while watching in awe as 100(not an exaggeration)C-130 cargo planes went roaring over my house en route to Pope AFB before leaving for the Middle East, so by November, going to a movie was far from my mind. I also wasn't impressed by the tv spots I'd seen, which made MI look like a CGI rip-off of the Nicktoon, "AHHHH! Real Monsters". But anyway, once I did get the DVD the following year, I immediately connected with Randall and related to him on a deeply personal level, and unlike so many who had a good feeling at the end of that movie, I was left feeling angry and shocked, realizing that I'd just witnessed a lynching, and the two perps not only got away with it, but were supposed to be heroes! It was all the more shocking and disturbing for me because I've been to Louisiana many times, and while I love the cultures and people there dearly, when it comes to large scaly creatures, especially alligators, those tend to be just one of the Five Major Food Groups. As soon as I heard that kid's Cajun accent in that trailer, and realized that they'd mistaken Randall for an alligator, I knew where this was, and I knew that his fate would be horrible indeed. I can only hope that you're right, and that many of us will see at some point in the new future that Randall survived, somehow, and will get a second chance to show that "Randy" is still there.
