Just wondering. It can be from any TV Show, Movie, Anime or Cartoon. For example I was watching this one anime called Neon Genesis Evangelion. There's this one character named Asuka Langley. And it was crazy with how much she and Randall have in common! XD Main differences are that Asuka's female, human, and not an antagonist. (Though from the main characters POV, she might as well be one since she pretty much makes his life hell and she hates everyone.) I also kinda think of Meowth from Pokemon when it comes to Randall! XD So are there any other characters that make you think of Randall? Yes, Ickis from the old Nicktoon, "AHHH! Real Monsters!" I have even joked about how Ickis grows up to BE Randall, lol. Ickis is very nervous and insecure, with little self-confidence, and a lot of his problems stem from a combination of being bullied/picked on and having a very famous and successful father(who ironically, is from Louisiana and has a distinct New Orleans "Yat" accent), to whom he's always being unfavorably compared. Ickis is one of a "power trio", the most submissive of the three, but periodically he does display leadership skills, especially when the chips are down. Ickis is very inventive and creative, definitely a "right-brained", outside-the-box(WAAAAY outside the box at times) thinker, who is fascinated with technology, human technology especially, and was known to invent and build things from scratch, from parts he found in the landfill where he and the other monsters lived, such as a functional tv/satellite combo made from a busted television, an assortment of wires and cables and a rack from an old grill for a dish receiver. Like Randall, Ickis desperately wants to fit in and be admired and respected, and this sometimes leads him to do foolish things and take big risks; the tv is a case in point, since he built it not so much for his own entertainment, but to get others to like him. Also like Randall, and young MU Randall especially, Ickis will do ANYTHING for someone he admires and therefore is easily mislead or taken advantage of, and he can also be very kind and sweet to someone in real need, whether human or monster. In the first episode, Ickis even wears a pair of thick, round-framed glasses, just like Randall's, only not purple, but he ditches them and is never seen wearing them again. Ickis also has a particular skill which he uses for scaring, which is referred to as "looming", and which basically involves this little pipsqueak of a monster, who normally stands about 2 feet tall not counting his enormous ears, being able to suddenly grow to an enormous size, with huge dagger-like fangs and glowing blood-red eyes(think the PNK gals...only 10 feet tall). Just as Randall had difficulty controlling his blending at first though, Ickis had problems controlling his looming, and it would happen most often if he got PO'd at someone, but not always when he NEEDED to loom. Ickis was starved for attention and enjoyed the spotlight, even though he was really shy and very hesitant when meeting someone for the first time. One of the reasons he was often picked on, aside from being small and slightly-built, was the fact that Ickis was furry, had big feet and loooong tapering ears(think Gremlins), which often caused both humans and monsters to mistake him for a purple RABBIT! Humans, of course, aren't afraid of bunny rabbits, so Ickis's scares often failed because his intended victim was just as likely to want to pet him or cuddle him, and it got the point where being called a "bunny" became a major "berserk button" issue for Ickis, as I'd imagine being called a "lizard" would be for Randall. Ickis did display an extremely high intellect, in spite of being very naive, and was really great at pulling those "Indy ploys" when faced with extreme danger to save himself or his friends, or at one point, a self-styled monster hunter/crytozoologist who frequently tried to capture him. As the series progressed, though, Ickis started to develop more of an attitude, no doubt in response to being tormented by his peers, and started standing up the bullies, and even going on the offensive, showing a bit of a vindictive and nasty side, no longer as willing to take **** off of anyone, so you could start to see that transition just as we do with Randall in MU, and it is easy to imagine Ickis becoming a very unpleasant individual if he were put under enough prolonged pressure with no outlet. Ickis was very much a prankster, and often came up with the ideas for the pranks himself, not relying on anyone to tell him what to do, and his pranks got him in big trouble many times. pitbulllady

Oh my gosh!!! Anakin Skywalker!!! Never watched Star Wars so could you please tell me a little bit about him? Anakin Skywalker was an orphaned kid who eventually is seduced by the Dark Side of the Force and becomes the character we all know as Darth Vader, who eventually experiences a full-circle "heel-face turn", returning to the Good Side to save his own son, Luke Skywalker. In Vader's case, though, it comes almost too late, as he dies in the act of saving his son. I want to see that same "full-circle" turn for Randall, but not if he had to die to prove that there's still good in him, though in order for that to be plausible, he probably will have to put himself at risk for someone else. pitbulllady

Well...he just has sort of the same personality/actions, like how he thinks he should be the best, acts impulsively, has some emotional issues, needs someone to look up to, and is rather independent.

People totally miss the boat when it comes to Randall's motives. He wasn't "trying to be the best", just to be recognized for what he did! He's always been ignored and pretty much was "invisible" to everyone. He was trying to prove his worth to Waternoose, to earn the old CEO's acceptance, since he saw Waternoose as a father figure, and any son wants to impress his father, right? Randall wanted the recognition that would have come with topping the Scare Board, or with building a piece of new technology that "revolutionized the Scaring industry", but it was all about simply being recognized and accepted, being respected, no longer being ignored and shut out. Mike thought it was about breaking the All-Time Scare Record, about being the "best", but Randall so much as tells him that it wasn't about that at all. Randall in college simply wanted to improve his situation, which was pretty bleak from a social perspective. Who WOULDN'T want better than that? He'd been taught that he was "uncool", and that kids who weren't cool didn't get to have friends, didn't get recognized for being successful, didn't get to have fun, weren't worth noticing except to target for bullying. Randall figured, "can't beat 'em, join 'em"-if he could "get in good with the cool kids", he'd change his situation. Every attempt at making friends, at being accepted, at being simply recognized for his accomplishments, wound up blowing up in his face, through no real fault of his own. pitbulllady

Not really sure they relate much, but one character who's psychology I also like to dive into is that of Bonnie Rockwaller from the Kim Possible series - I've written analysis on her and even role-played as her. Sure, Bonnie is popular from the get-go anyhow and does put down others, which is a lot different to Randall's case. I took though from her background that she had an immensely difficult childhood with her over-acheiving sisters who never gave her a break - and in the series she doesn't get much of one either. Then you've got Kim, who on top of being the head cheerleader and another over-acheiver, saves the world and has a loving family, most importantly. And though she is a kind-hearted character, she's also shown to not be so different to Bonnie at times.
There were points in the series that Bonnie should've been able to succeed over her, such as in an episode with a talent show - she praticed ballet so hard, but Ron won with a last minute put together act. Also, in an episode, Kim and Bonnie had to work together, which gave us more of an insight into why Bonnie is so competitive - she just wants to for once impress either her family or her peers and gain some recognition. There's also a high chance she suffers from an inferiority complex.
I guess why Randall reminds me a little of Bonnie is that both never catch a break or really get the recognition they deserve - yes, Bonnie does push her attitude too far sometimes, but both characters really try to work to get somewhere better, they never sit back, they really strive for something. Plus they definitely have that psychology you just want to dig into for the reasons why they became who they are.
Sorry, I ramble ahaa, sometimes my posts aren't all that clear.

Plus they definitely have that psychology you just want to dig into for the reasons why they became who they are. Sorry, I ramble ahaa, sometimes my posts aren't all that clear. I haven't seen "Kim Possible" in like, FOREVER, but if I recall correctly, Bonnie actually reminds me more of Johnny than of Randall, because Johnny is also popular(or at least, Johnny has a lot of students who ADMIRE him and like to hang around him because of WHAT he is...can't help but wonder how many would stick by him, though, if his financial status changed), comes from a very well-known and successful family, both in the Scaring field and in financial endeavors, and he's also got a LOT of pressure on him to be successful. He's held up to others as a standard and expected never to fail. In a way, Sulley can also be compared to Bonnie, though Sulley is not as obsessed with winning and success as Johnny is, by a long shot. When we meet Randall in MU, he's obviously got an inferiority complex(and it just gets worse), but he's not really that competitive, not until he gets into ROR, and in that case, it's not so much as matter of just impressing someone as it is being able to stay in ROR, which he sees as his last chance at just being acceptable, period. No one up until that point has apparently put pressure on Randall to succeed, and Johnny does because if Randall causes ROR to lose, to Johnny, that means HE has lost, personally, and HE has failed. Randall's not trying to live up to a family legacy or reputation, as both Johnny and Sulley(to a far lesser extent) are. He just wants to be recognized and seen as something other than an "uncool" nerd. I think that in MU, Randall's main goal was to not be bullied or threatened, and he thinks that "getting in good with the cool kids" will offer him that security and protection. pitbulllady

Yeah, you're right on quite a number points there. She does remind me of other characters too, the expected never to fail types as well. It's a stretch, and I don't know why I get reminded of Bonnie. Like I said, their lives aren't relatable in any way, I think sometimes it's just aspects of each that I get reminded of. I've done quite a lot on Bonnie's psyche, so maybe that's why.

He's not a character, but he does remind me of Randall. He's my college algebra professor, and his voice kinda reminds me of Randy...

Does Randall Boggs remind me of another character? Yeah! SEVERUS SNAPE! Dudes, Randall has his redemption in the bag! Snape has scaled the utmost height on this! If Snape can, well, if Snape can do IT... at the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, followed by... THAT tear-jerker sequence which things around 180 degrees at the climax of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (every Harry Potter fan the world who reads this will know what PRESICELY what I'm talking about, I'm just leaving out the details in case some people on this forum haven't read the books or seen the movies. If you're a Harry Potter fan, PLEASE do not divulge the details! Just rub your hands together fiendishly with a vigorous nod and dance around the room in silent glee!), then ANY character like Randall can be redeemed! HANDS DOWN!

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I have not read the book or watched the movie version of The Deathly Hallows, but doesn't Snape DIE in that? I mean, it's not exactly "spoilerish" since the movie version came out in 2011 and there are reviews everywhere, but I am pretty much certain that Severus Snape does get killed. I DO firmly believe that Randall CAN redeem himself, that he is not completely "evil" but that his actions in MI were largely due to years of frustration, loneliness, failure, rejection and desperation, not a conscious choice on his part to be bad or "embrace the Dark Side". NO one, exposed to what he would have been dealing with emotionally, is going to come out unscathed and still acting like an angel, I don't care how perfect they consider themselves to be, but we have seen that Randall was most certainly NOT mean or evil by default in MU, contrary to what many people had insisted about him following MI. That said, though, I would really, really hate it if Pixar decided that in order to redeem himself, Randall has to die, like Snape or like Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, that we will never get to see him finally live happily, to have friends, to be accepted and loved. pitbulllady
