Okay, so we know why Mike wanted to be a scarer, we know why Sully wanted to be a scarer. But they didn’t tell us why the hell Randy wanted to be a scarer. That only thing I can think of is how it seems like his main goal at MU other than being a Scarer was to make friends and be cool for once. He probably thought being a Scarer would do that for him.

Most likely, indeed. He had to have known of the "rock star" status that top Scarers carried, since that was something that everyone knew, Mike included. However, being a Scarer wasn't Randall's dream so much as it was a means of achieving his dream, plus earning a respectable living.
I did think it was funny though, that Mike assumed that once he was a Scary he'd have time to party all the time, a typical college student attitude. Little did he know about the realities of having to work for a living!

I liked what happened after Mike said that when he called Randy "wild man" and Randy just waved it off chuckling "Heheh, wild man". To me that was a classic friend-to-friend moment there. Its just sad it didn't play out like that, Randy and Mike both become scarers and spending the rest of their lives as friends with fun, parties, and scaring.

Yep, it's obvious when you think about it. Randall just wanted to be a nice guy and have friends and a life that would make him happy. He probably had the technical knowhow, like Wazowski did, but doubted his own abilities (the doubt, along with other things, is probably want haywired his gift). Once he started to realize he DID have the talent, probably through ROR, he realized that maybe he made the right choice.
Scarers are, and I've noted this on PP, part of a foundation of the monster world. Scareing is not just a job, it's part of what monster society revolves around. To be IN on that, and be a legend in it, is something that almost guarantees some form of respect.
You can see it on the face of those kids in Wazowski's class, every little kid, for the most part, wants to be a scarer.

Considering that they make "Scare Cards" out of well known scarers....I'm pretty sure he wanted to become a scarer to feel more cool and accepted. What's sad is that some people act like it's a bad thing for people to want stuff like this. It's really only a very natural thing.

What's sad is that some people act like it's a bad thing for people to want stuff like this. It's really only a very natural thing. THAT is what I don't get, this whole backlash against Randall for him wanting to be "popular" or be "cool", wanting to change his image of how everyone else saw him and how he saw himself, in other words, as if that's a horrible thing. I guess that the people who are most critical of him for wanting this perfectly natural thing are those who either already have that, or THINK that they do, who have an extremely elevated view of their own position. I've used the analogy before of Randall being like a starving person, deprived of food, and desperately wanting/needing it. A person who has never experienced that cannot really empathize and is more likely to be critical of someone willing to do pretty much anything to get what they themselves already have. When that starving person finally gets some food, the ones who have never known that level of desperation might find his behavior "greedy" or "gluttonous" because they've always had plenty to eat. Behavioral scientists have been warming us that more and more young people, growing up in state of entitlement, raised by parents who will get them whatever they want just to shut them up, are losing their ability to empathize with those who don't have it so well. pitbulllady

I see people insult and judge people for the stupidest things on a daily basis. You know how girls who take a lot of pictures of themselves are often called attention whores? At least if they are pictures where they are doing sexy poses and such. The thing is though....what is so wrong with someone wanting attention? Why is that considered some great sin to so many people? I don't really see anything wrong with it. People just judge and judge and judge and okay they are free to have that opinion....but they should maybe realize how harmful it is. A lot of these people are already insecure and they don't deserve for people to keep knocking them down further.

It's humanity. At their core, humanity hates. This was deciding factor that split humanity and monsters up at the start.
There are some individuals, few parties, that have the benefit of EVOLVING to a state of understanding. But for the most part, humanity loves to hate things. Maybe they hate themselves, maybe they refuse any hint of empathy, or maybe they just-plain-want-to-hate-something.

Which is exactly why certain groups in their world are responsible...for keeping their world safe. From us.
