Yep, this one's been all over Tumblr since last night. Poor Randall looks so lost there; pretty much every time we see him with the other guys in ROR he looks painfully out-of-place. You can tell at this point that he's not happy, but at the same time, he still believes that being part of ROR will make him popular, make him one of the "cool kids", but it's like at first he's expecting something awful to happen. Even his smile, when the crowd starts cheering, seems a bit forced, like he WANTS to believe they are cheering for HIM, but at the same time, knows that they aren't. He also knows that if he screws up, there's gonna be hell to pay, and that pressure to win and succeed has got to be horrible on him right now.

It shows how innocent Randy really is and how all he wants is acceptance and ironically just to "not be invisible" anymore. He had that quality in the first movie, faint as it was. But they are really highlighting it in this movie. I can't wait to see what Pixar has planned for the future, because after this you can guarantee that it will include Randy.

It HAS to include him, and not just as a "bit player", either. Making him so appealing, and making his story so sad, is meaningless unless they have plans to continue his story. It's not just meaningless, but outright cruel not to let him find redemption and finally have that happiness that has always eluded him. It's sending a message to kids, as well: "yeah, kids, you can work hard and be nice and try to make friends and fit in, but life is just gonna chew you up and spit you out anyway, so why bother being a nice person when it's not gonna get you anywhere?"

I can die in peace now, thanks Yep,I couldn't agree more. < a lot of people hate Randy, but after this movie They'll see him from another point of view...behind every bad man there is a painful story....maybe because He can't think clearly, in the right way, but always pain..(Sorry for my english >_<)

I posted this up over under New Trailers, but with this close-up focus bit showing Randall this way, should get it's own topic.
Anyway, like said, nice clip bit there, nice and smooth, and focuses on what he does. My comments over at the other topic aside...this is what I meant by Pixar (or at least some of the animators/writers....and director) being able to pack something important in just a few seconds. Randall may not get as much screen time (though does he get more in this one? I don't think but...)...but when he IS present...what he does speaks a LOT. This simple...oh...5 second or so clip shows a LOT about who he is and how he's feeling, as we've noted.
And yes...there's going to a lot of..."necessary pain"...that's going to be experienced on our part. I know from experience... But if that sequel comes that smooths things over...it'll be worth it.

Ok, I'll just put this here... I think Randall CAN be seen during the Avoid the Teenager maze bit. It's that far away shot, almost birds-eye view, near the start. You can see him crawling on all eights.
