*prods head* Wonder if they'll latch on to my series idea. Heck, they did a series of Cars/Toy Story shorts...and I THINK Buzz Lightyear got his own series that was backed by Pixar but put on by Disney right...?

Yeah, I noticed a change in his accent too, PBL. In fact, it's not just his accent- I know the fact that his vocabulary is more traditional has been pointed out before, but I guess hearing Steve read out lines really brought it home; whereas Randall would perhaps say words and phrases like "why dontcha?" and "buster", things that have an almost, I don't know, Brooklyn feel to them (please correct me if I'm wrong- I'm no good at placing American dialects) Randy has such a different vocabulary that (so far) he's almost unrecognisable. I wonder whether there's a geographic basis to these changes, including the accent change, or if it's just the, er, winds of change, haha. Perhaps the more confident Randall finds it easier to throw slang around, whilst the insecure Randy prefers to stick to his more gentle lexicon? I REALLY, strongly get the impression that MU and Monstropolis are located in the Monster World equivalent of the American Midwest, because most of the characters(with the notable exception of Mike) have distinctively Midwestern accents. Given that Dan Scanlon is a native of Michigan, that really would make sense. Randall(in MI) has a VERY strong Indiana accent, to the extent that even my brother-in-law, watching the movie on DVD with his daughters, asked if that was Tony Stewart voicing that character because they sound so much alike, lol. I've noticed a strong vocal resemblance as well and commented on that more than once here. MU Randy, though, has a bit more a Chicago accent, sort of reminding me a bit of Gary Sinise, who is from Chicago. pitbulllady

Awesome. ♥ Steve, he is amazing and also hot. XD
I wish there wasn't the background music in the 2nd video....makes it harder to clearly hear their lines.

You know, Cherry might have something there. Steve is the youngest of the three, apparently, but in some shots of him that I've seen, he looks older. He seems...yeah...in better health and such.

Yeah, Steve is the youngest of them...especially compared to Billy Crystal who is almost 10 years older than him.
I did also notice though that it looked like Steve looks a bit younger and healthier in those clips. I always think he's sexy though. ♥

I found that if you listen to it with headphones, the music is going into only one of the earphones so you can take it out and just listen to what they're saying with the other one. PBL, I'd always assumed that they hadn't really thought about different accents and had just let the voice actors voice the characters in whatever way they thought suited them best; Sulley just sort of sounds like John Goodman as is, Mike is a high-pitched Billy Crystal, and so on. You're right that Randall definitely has an 'accent', and it's really distinctive in comparison to the more vanilla tones of the other monsters in MI, especially considering he doesn't sound much like Steve either. But part of me thinks that was an unconscious thing because as we can see in this latest video, the 'accent' has changed so much that it makes me wonder whether they really gave it much thought in the first place. Do you think Steve, when reading out Randy's lines, sounds much like himself? I can't really tell if it's just a high-pitched version of his own voice or whether there's something more different about it. I totally agree cherry, Steve looks GREAT in these videos! Very fresh-faced and healthy.

Also his mood is pretty different to what we have seen in the original and i expect that would affect the tone. i dont realy get the whole thing of Randall not sounding like steve in MI i always thought he sounded just like him lol as a kid id always get excited when he was on tv or in cartoon not because it was steve but because it was Randall haha

He's amazing as Nucky! That's a good explanation actually, it's so true that people's tone of voice changes depending on the situation so that does really make sense. I always felt like Steve's voice as Randall was a touch different, not massively but there's just a slightly different quality to it, though I find it difficult to pinpoint. That might just be my skewed perception though haha!

Buzz Light Year and Star Command or something. But yeah, as I'll show in my series of it, there's possibilities galore.

I finally got a compatible vid with the casting recordings! Yes, the ones with Steve and everyone.
So far, you know what I've noticed? Dan was at a sort of "range" with everyone (at least Goodman and Crystal)...yet...he was RIGHT smack beside Buscemi for when he was doing Randall. I don't think this is a favortisim thing, it's more of...I think Dan thought Goodman and Crystal knew what they were doing, they had a sort of "chemistry". They were able to bounce off each other comfortably. But Buscemi, being Randall, didn't so much have that, so he needed somebody there, right to encourage the "Right" path. And funny enough that was Dan, who seems to have his own soft sport for Randy heh.

Yeah, the director probably wanted to make sure that Buscemi got Randy right due to his character being so different as opposed to the first movie, while Crystal and Goodman already have their thing going, like you said.
