Hey! So, I've been lurking around here, and I thought I'd finally show my face. I'm Goldenponcho, or just Poncho if you'd like. Lets see...I've always loved MI and Randall's always been my favorite. Totally had a crush on him when I was a kid, and still sort of do (along with a ton of other villains/bad guys/antagonists or whatever you want to call them).
I think looking around the board, I've got a slightly different idea of Randall's personality and his place in the story, but hey, different opinions lead to more interesting discussions.
Also, more about me, I'm about to finish up a degree in Media and Animation, and will hopefully be going into concept art/character design. You'll notice it seems like any fandom I get into I end up creating some kind of...persona, if you will. *coughselfinstertcough* Just can't help it.
So, anyways, yeah, I guess that's about it!

Hi there! Welcome to the forum. ^^ I've always had a crush on him too(I was 17 when the movie came out). I see that you are just a few years younger than me, so I'm not surprised that you had a crush on him from the beginning either! Anyway, don't worry, a lot of people self-insert themselves via an OC. LOL. I mean, I made my own OC recently....although I did decide to make her Randall's cousin instead of putting her with him romantically since I've already seen a lot of other fangirls do that and although there is nothing wrong with that, I just felt like I should do something different instead of doing the same thing.....even though I do think he's hot. It's all good though. I hope you enjoy your time on here.

Thanks! Yeah, I wouldn't say it was my biggest cartoon crush (I had more than I can possibly recall, mostly on villains which has persisted until today) but I certainly had one. I remember making an OC for him then as well, but I can't remember what she looked like. I'm pretty sure I only drew her like once.
But anyways, yeah, OCs. I thought I'd grow out of those by now, but they're just too much fun. And half the fun is just designing something that's your own. Usually, mine do end up with the character I like, because why the hell not? But even on their own, they're just fun. It's even more fun for something like MI, since you can design your own monster too. I'll have to post the one I just made here. She still needs a name, though.

I'm not sure what my biggest animated crush ever has been....because I feel like all of them have been pretty equal. Although in Randall's case I didn't admit the extent of it for a while because, well, people are more likely to be judgmental about it since he looks nothing like a human. So for a while I felt kind of weird about fully admitting the extent of it. LOL. I almost always like villains also(or at least, characters that are considered to be antagonists....a few are more like henchmen though of the main villain....and there are also a lot that have some kind of tragedy associated with them). I'm not really sure why I like them more than the hero characters in most cases. I guess they just seem deeper to me a lot of the time, and especially the ones that have some kind of tragic past, since I can really relate to some of that, despite the fact that I didn't go down a negative path. Anyway that's cool that you put your OCs with the character you like. I mean I usually do too(although most of them I never posted online)....although it's stupid how people tend to judge people who do that. I mean who cares? I think people can pair whatever they want together. But yeah, I just decided to make mine his cousin....just thought it might be interesting and different to do that. Although what's funny is that if she were an official character, I bet some people would still pair her with Randall despite them being cousins. I've noticed that in fandoms....you see so many characters that are even more closely related than cousins(like brothers for example) being paired together. I don't mind it, but it is interesting how when it's fictional characters, people seem to not care about incest. XD

Oh, man I've had so many. Some bigger than others. I think I tend to like the bad guys because all the good guys are usually conventionally attractive, and I've never gone for conventionally attractive guys before. For example, I'm one of the many Turbo fangirls you see running around Tumblr right now. You see a lot of people asking why everyone finds him attractive. He's nasty, he's got wrinkles, he's got bags under his eyes, and I'm just like, I know right? I love it!
As far as non-human characters, I've had several of those too, and honestly, they've never felt any different than the others. Just like none of the live action character crushes feel any different to me than cartoon ones. I've had a crush on Hopper from A Bug's Life, Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective...let's see...Oh! John Silver from Treasure Planet. I'm sure there were others.
And yeah, people will pair almost anything, but god forbid it be an OC. I never understood the hate. Sure there are a ton of bad OCs, but even the bad ones can be entertaining, and when you find the good ones, it's totally worth it. But yes, people will pair anything otherwise. I'm (sort of) in the Game of Thrones fandom as well, and that's got incest in canon, more than just one time, so I'm pretty used to that. Actually, it takes quite a lot to get me squicked about anything like that anymore.

Actually, it takes quite a lot to get me squicked about anything like that anymore. You're right that a lot of hero characters are "stereotypically attractive" and I don't generally go for that myself either. So good point there. A lot of the guys they slap on the cover of magazines for example, are not my type. That's not to say that I never like any guys or actors or characters that fit into being stereotypically attractive...but for the most part, I don't usually go for those kinds of guys. There's one actor I like who is consider really really stereotypically attractive actually and aside from being an actor, he's also a model....so yeah....but the thing is I actually think he's the most attractive as a character I saw him play and one of the things that character had about him was that he's blind in one eye and I actually thought he looked hotter like that than he does in reality, where his eye is normal. That's not to say that I want anyone to be blind in an eye or anything....but just as in, sometimes I think people look hotter when they have something unique/different about them. I'm not sure if it's because I stand out like that myself because I have a birthmark on one side of my face....I don't know, I just find it interesting. A hero character that I'm attracted to is Frodo from Lord of the Rings....although at the same time I also find Gollum attractive and Grima Wormtongue....both of which are also from Lord of the Rings. People don't understand how anyone can be attracted to some of those characters, or how I could like Frodo but at the same time like a character like Gollum in the same kind of way. I might not fully understand it either. LOL. I don't know. Anyway, you like Hopper from A Bug's Life? Me too! I rarely see other people who like him though....and I can't really defend him because he is more of a true villain, definitely not a nice guy at all. I think Randall is more of a grey area than someone like Hopper. We never did get to see much about Hopper's past though. It would have been interesting. In the case of Hopper though....him/a human pairing could never work out. With Randall it probably could. LOL. With Hopper he's an insect so it's literally impossible with a human....unless you got shrunk down somehow like what happened in Honey I Shrunk the Kids or something. LOL. Or if you were an insect yourself. I tend to be someone who moves insects from the sidewalk so no one will step on them, and I saved a worm from a bird once(scared the bird off when I saw it trying to pull the worm out of the ground). I know it's nature but I hate seeing things die. lol. I wonder if a human did something like that for Hopper and then later gets shrunk down by some kind of machine....I wonder if that could be an interesting story? LOL. I'm not someone who tends to write fanfics though. I just like to discuss things with people. I actually have a crush on Panic from Hercules. That always feels weird to me. I wonder if I'm the only one. It doesn't seem like anyone else does. I know people like the character....but I might be the only one who actually has a crush on that character. I don't even really know why. Anyway, Turbo is alright....I don't either dislike nor really like him....but I wasn't overly attracted to anyone in that movie. It's a great movie though. Maybe if I watch it again(I've only seen it once) I might get more into one of the characters. As for OC hate....I sometimes wonder if people hate it because they just don't like to see people basically pairing themselves with a character(since OCs are fairly often, to a degree, a representation of the person who created the OC)...and maybe people just more jealous of stuff like that? I do think it's stupid though that people get so hateful. Anyway, I don't really read fanfics much and yes, I'm sure a lot of OCs are poorly written...it's one reason why I don't really read fanfics(along with the fact that I don't tend to like to stare at the computer screen for long enough to read them all at once)....but even when OCs don't seem that original either in their design or in fanfics....some of these OCs are made by people who are pretty young and don't have much experience with this kind of thing. So it can't really be expected that it's going to be really amazing and original. And some people simply have more talent for this kind of thing than other people. I just don't think people should hate so much.

Yeah, there seem to be a lot more people than you would think who like Gollum. He really is creepily adorable, and no one can deny he has gorgeous eyes. The guy who plays him also looks a lot like Steve Buscemi to me as well (who I'm starting to appreciate more. Gotta see more of his movies.)
Actually with Hopper, I think I had a crush on him before I actually knew what a crush really was, so any OC I would have created for him wouldn't have actually been paired with him. I think I made, like, a cat, or something that caught him but eventually became his friend. Ya know it would be fun to go back to all the crushes I used to have and design an OC for them now. It could make for a pretty fun exercise.
I always liked bugs and creepy crawlies too, sometimes to my disadvantage. Once when I was four, I saw a red velvet ant in my friend's driveway and picked it up because it looked pretty. Did NOT make that mistake again.
*warning for possible Wreck-It Ralph spoilers*
But with Turbo, that developed a while after I saw the movie, and has a lot to do with the fandom. I actually thought I'd be more attracted to Felix, which I still am (I've even done a Calhoun cosplay), but I turned out liking Turbo/KingCandy even more. I think the three (Felix, Turbo/KC, and Calhoun) are pretty neck and neck for my favorite character, though.
*end WIR spoilers*
I think with the OC hate it kind of squicks people out sometimes. I don't mind if people don't prefer it; it's just when they try to discourage people from posting things involving OCs at all that's the problem. Some will try to tell you no one will read it, but that's been proven time and time again to be untrue. There's an audience for it. A smaller audience, but it's there.
I read fanfics occasionally. I haven't read many MI ones yet, though. I'm pretty sure the reason I need glasses now is because around middle school I would sneak in the middle of the night to the computer in the kitchen and read fanfiction in the dark. Not good for the eyes.
Definitely, though, there are a lot of OCs made by younger people, and I think it has a lot to do with 1. a lot of people grow out of it and 2. older fans often discourage it. You've gotta start somewhere, and a mary sue is usually what it starts with. I'll even admit some of my current OCs have a few mary sueish qualities, but I try my best to keep it to a minimum. At the same time, people like to throw the term around a bit too much, anyway.

I have seen other people who think he's adorable in a creepy kind of way....but they aren't actually ATTRACTED to him. LOL. They wouldn't sleep with him. I mean I know I'm not the ONLY one but people who like him in that kind of way seem pretty rare. Anyway, Steve Buscemi is awesome and hot. XD I like a lot of his movies(although I have not seen all of them). Also....lol those awkward crushes you get before you really know what a crush is. XD I remember those days. Although I was a bit older than you when A Bug's Life came out. I was 14....so I did know more what a crush was at that point. Although funny enough, a lot of my crushes in my early teens were pretty 'innocent' in the sense that I didn't really think about anything sexual with the characters....I mean sometimes I did but....I didn't even understand what I was really thinking about when I thought something sexual back then. LOL. My parents NEVER gave me a sex talk aside from telling me not to do it. I actually didn't really know exactly what male genitals even looked like until I was in my later teens. I only had a vague idea up until that point. Seems so weird, I know. lol. I remember making a female grasshopper back in the day that I guess would have been paired with Hopper? Even though I'm pretty sure I never actually drew them together. lol. In a way I think I kind of created her because there weren't any female grasshoppers actually shown in the movie and I was curious about what a female Pixar-style grasshopper would look like so I tried to draw one myself. I don't have those pictures anymore now. That was so long ago. Anyway, wow, so technically you picked up a wasp? I didn't know what a red velvet ant was...so I just looked it up. Pretty sure we don't have these where I live. I have been attacked by some insects I've picked up over the years though. lol. I mean, they don't know/understand that you aren't going to hurt them and are trying to help them. I got pinched by 2 preying mantis' that I picked up last year and moved off of the sidewalk. They slashed at me. LOL. They pinched my fingers. Didn't really hurt though....just kind of unpleasant. LOL. Anyway, you are right, people have the right not to like something....although I tend to feel that if I don't like someone's OC, I'm just not going to comment on it, or maybe simply offer advice if I want to help them make it better. I just don't really believe in bringing people down like some people seem to. Also....yikes....yeah that's why I really try not to stare at the computer screen for too long. And I noticed that being in a dark room while on the computer definitely makes it worse...so I always have bright lights on in the room when I'm on the computer.

I wanna think I've met others actually attracted to him. Could be wrong. I know he has plenty of fans, at least.
I don't have any of my old pictures like that left either. I remember keeping a lot of stuff like that in one of those copier paper boxes, but I finally threw them all out. I think I was afraid my mom or my sister would go through the binders. I still don't let people I know irl know about my fandom life. They know I like the shows/games/movies, and that's about it.
A red velvet ant is sort of like a wingless wasp, yeah. Some of them actually do have wings just like some normal ants do. I've been stung by a lot of bugs, and that one I remember hurting the most.
Also, completely off topic, but I was just looking at your signature gif there, and I just noticed the way Randall actually reaches over to shake that monster's (does he have a name?) hand without looking at him. I don't know, I was just staring at that as I was typing in the quick reply box below and thought that was kind of adorable. I hadn't noticed it before.

There was a Randall fan I used to know from one of the old forums that was gay and he also liked Gollum in that way....although back then I didn't really admit/embrace any attraction to Gollum myself. When I was re-organizing my room last year I came across a container under my bed that had a lot of my old drawings in it from when I was a teen. I threw them away though....because yeah, same here, I don't really like the idea of other family members potentially looking at them. Aside from the fact that it's embarrassing....I also just feel like they really wouldn't 'get it' and wonder if there is something wrong with me. Also, yeah I noticed that in the gif too...sometimes I notice more when someone makes a gif of a scene so that you see it on constant repeat and can therefore notice everything that happens in the scene that you'd be less likely to notice when just watching through the movie, even if you've seen the movie multiple times.

Yeah, I don't even give out my usernames to people I know irl who are interested in fandomy things. If anything, I make new ones to interact with them with and keep the others to myself. It's one think having crushes on cartoon characters, but I always get them on the really strange ones, many much stranger than Randall. And being in the WIR/Turbo fandom has only made it more known that a lot of people are really rude about crushing on characters that are weird to crush on. I just wish people would get it through their thick skulls that people will have different tastes, and just because you don't understand someone's attraction to a character, it doesn't mean you have to get angry about it.

I agree. I feel like a lot of people in this world are just really intolerant for some reason. It's the same way if you have an attraction to types of people in real life that aren't considered 'sexy' by stupid standards in society. That's why people who are into fat people for example often seem to not openly admit it in public.....because you can actually get made fun of by people if you are into a body type that isn't considered attractive by the social norm. I think it's so stupid though.
