I'm doing it again. I just can't resist- this time, blame Tumblr. In an interview, Steve confirms Randall's nerdiness as a younger character and also confirms the fact that he's not a 'main' character of MU but comes in an out, much like he did in MI. collider.com/steve-buscemi-burt-wonderstone-boardwalk-empire-season-4/I'm not surprised at this, to be honest; this is still a Mike and Sulley film, after all (more Mike than anything) but someone suggested an idea on Tumblr that I really think is quite feasible: that Randall keeps attempting to be friends with Mike, being overly nice to him and so on, but that most of the time we see Randall in MU, he'll pop up, try his best to integrate with the others, fail/get ignored, and this will happen over and over again until he snaps and ends up going against them completely. This provides an explanation for why Randall is an enemy of Mike and Sulley's without him having to feature excessively in the film- which, let's be honest, he won't. That isn't to say, of course, that he won't have a few great scenes and lines and so on. Just that he'll probably only be featured when he is relevant to Mike and Sulley's stories, rather than having his own story- just like in MI, where we only ever see him if Mike and Sulley do. Anyway, back to work...Just couldn't resist posting this! Gah! *flies away*

Hmm...my antiviral software and Firefox's built-in antiviral programming went ballistic when I tried to open that link, warning me that Collider.com could not be trusted, so I guess I won't be reading that interview. Too bad; I really want to read it for myself.

Glad I saw your post before venturing forth PBL.
Anyway, oh well...too bad Randall doesn't get in more...still...he WAS important in the original, so at least he'll get some important moments in.
LG, hehehe. But yeah good thought. It's interesting to see if Randall tries to be friends with Wazowski and gets pushed away, forcing him to look "elsewhere" for that sort of friendship...and we know where that leads him...

I haven't seen the interview.....but I saw those bits quoted from it on tumblr already. Anyway, I'm not surprised either by any means that he won't be in it as much as Mike and Sulley...they'll probably always be the main characters in any film they make that's MI/MU related, even if they make a sequel in the future instead of just this prequel. It's good though that he's apparently going to be in it at least about as much as in MI. I mean, that means we should get enough Randall, I hope. I mean the more Randall the better but yeah.....at least we know he isn't going to just be some total background character in this film though.

There are a couple of ways to look at this, actually. One, I DID find the interview with Steve, mostly about the "Burt Wonderstone" movie, but I didn't get the impression that he'd seen any footage of MU yet. Given how VA's have to record lines, often in random order, it can be difficult to tell exactly how much a character can appear in a movie. That will depend largely on editing, so Randall might appear more often, and could still play a pivotal role even with reduced screen time. The other way to look at this is even if he does wind up with a smaller amount of screen time than we'd like, that might also mean he won't be shoved in the audiences' faces as "see this guy is EVIIIL".

But at the same time, they do get to read the script, so he has SOME idea to how the movie plays out. Also, you need to remember that Steve may be censoring himself. Their not supposed to talk to much about the movie, there's things they are and aren't aloud to say. He told the interviewer the obvious, stuff we basically already knew.

Indeed on that second note Pistol. Perusing the MI collector's edition (for that fake-trailer), I looked over some stuff I haven't seen in years and one was the cast interviews. Buscemi was there talking about how Randall was "just a bad guy" (or along those lines). BUT...how he was saying it and how he looked seemed forced, as if that was what he was suppose to "give out". For comparison, we should remember when Buscemi stated he didn't see him as a bad guy but as...well I can't exactly remember, but it was more positive.
Point being, he may not be saying too much because they've already given out little tibits to us that to ruin it now would spoil any surprises.
