So on tumblr I keep seeing this image getting re-blogged around in my news feed and what not:

With people saying things like:

"oh how the times have changed"

"This is definitely worth reblogging."

What I have to say to that is....

Don't people realize that this kind of image is actually just as bad as people who trash girls that aren't skinny?

I personally hate that ANY body type gets trashed in our society. Why? Because people are not all meant to be the same body type...just like we aren't all the same height either and just like we don't all have the same hair, eye, and skin colour. So why do people act like we should all roughly have the same kind of body? And then make people who don't fit into that feel like they are freaks in some way.

I agree that it's horrible how the fashion industry treats women who aren't super skinny in this day and age but why do people act like therefore that makes skinny girls a good target to hate on? Like you are cool and awesome for hating skinny girls and doing the same thing to them that the fashion industry does to bigger girls.

The ad that I linked that's going around on tumblr is still a disgusting ad. Why? Because it’s still bashing a body type. Just because skinny girls are ‘in’ right now in the fashion industry and what not makes people feel like it’s cool or RIGHT to bash us. JUST STOP BODY TYPE HATING ALL TOGETHER.

Bashing skinny girls doesn’t make you cool…it actually makes you the same as people who bash bigger girls. I’m all for standing up for big girls but don’t do it in THIS kind of way. It isn’t really any better.

This kind of ad makes girls like me(who have always just been ridiculously skinny - I have been my entire life, as a child, everything) feel like there is something wrong with us. That isn’t any better than people bringing down bigger people.

I mean, when it comes to what people find attractive though I know that everyone has a preference. No one has to find skinny girls sexy or bigger girls sexy or whatever....but I always hate it when society itself tries to define what is sexy and what isn't because sexy is not meant to be some universal thing where by everyone finds the exact same thing sexy as someone else. Society should never make girls feel that if they don't look a certain way, they aren't sexy.

Some people think big girls are hot, and that's cool. Some people think skinny girls are hot, and that's cool. Some people think medium sized girls are hot, and that's cool. What I hate is when people act like a certain body type is just WRONG and like it shouldn't exist....especially when society itself perpetuates that. And when people backlash on skinny girls and want us removed from magazines and what not, that's not the right way to go about it because skinny girls are still a demographic that will always exist and we shouldn't be completely cut out of stuff. What they need to do is simply to include ALL body types.

I'm actually really shocked that I haven't seen a company that puts out a clothing catalog that features images of women with all different body types wearing their clothing. Wouldn't that just be awesome? Not only would it potentially gain them more customers because it would show that everyone can wear their clothing by giving everyone an idea of what it would look like on their own body type.....but I think a lot of people would just be inspired and happy to see a company that embraces everyone.

They should also have catalogs that feature men of all sizes. Although, I know that this whole thing is a bit more of an issue with women than it is with men.

I don't think I'd seen the Dove one before....it is good that they don't all use really skinny models although I still think Dove should have had one really skinny girl there and also at least one girl who's bigger than the other girls in the picture.

The more every type is included, the better. I love how they have different skin colours though too. That's another thing you don't see enough of really.

How can they say that and then have a picture of girls that mostly all look the same? Honestly even their HAIR STYLES are almost identical. At least they have some different skin colour variations....but still.

I'm skinny and even I don't look that close to those Victoria's Secret models. LOL. Most girls who are that skinny don't have big boobs at the same time....it usually doesn't go hand in hand. Sometimes it does, but not usually. Hardly anyone looks like those girls. Of course some girls do, so they should still be in ads....they just need to include more variety.

Sometimes I wonder if they use models that are all the same size so they can switch them all between the different outfits, so it will all fit them no matter which one wears it, and because it costs them less money on fabric to make the outfits when the girls are thinner. I don't know.

It just sends a bad message that depresses a lot of girls.....but I still hate when some people think thin girls should be banned from being models because then that makes skinny girls feel like we're not included in anything anymore. They just need to include everyone.

And even though I'm skinny, I've never fit into society's stupid 'standard of beauty' either due to my birthmark, and scars(I have 3 large ones on my body), etc. It would be cool if they included more girls like that too....some models who have big scars or birthmarks or something uncommon about them like that. Then maybe more people will feel less bad about looking 'different' in some way.

Oh, there's a couple of different Dove pictures, I posted the first varied one I saw on Google.

there's another, I think the second girl on the left is quite skinny www.welt.de/multimedia/archive/01198/plus_dove_BM_Lifes_1198193s.jpg. I don;t think there's been one with a fat girl yet, but the body types and colours have been varied fairly well, so there's got to be one soon.

I really love the fact the heights are different. I'm pretty short and it sucks that whenever I go into a dresssection of the store, the dresses are literally longer than I am tall.

Industry sucks, plain and simple. The Beauty standard is pretty much impossible in order to get people to feel bad and buy stuff to try and look more like impossible Beauty standard.

Yes there is a really skinny girl in that picture you just linked...along with girls of other sizes and they also have different breast sizes which is good too.

I agree it's also nice that the heights are different.

Anyway....I actually have the opposite problem from you though. When I go into a store to buy something I run into the problem of a decent number of stuff being too short on me. I think it's mainly because I tend to wear the smallest size but I'm tall(I'm a bit taller than 5'8") and fairly often, the smaller sizes are also shorter. I mean I'm okay with having some stuff that is mini skirt length and what not....but I don't want nearly everything to hang at that length. It means there are places where I can't wear it.

Also....yeah it's true pretty much no one looks like that on the streets. Even a lot of models don't look like that on their off-days because a lot of those pictures were taken after hours of professional make-up was done to them and then the images are often photoshopped after that. I've seen them even photoshop off stuff like moles on people's skin. Seriously almost everyone has moles somewhere on their skin, why are they photoshopping them off?

Oh, and yeah....I have said before to people that the way clothing hangs on really skinny people is the closest it is to hanging the way it does on a hanger, so that's probably part of why they use really skinny people. Not because we're any prettier than anyone else.

Although I don't like it when people call me a skeleton. I've had some nasty comments from people about how skinny I am.

I know that overall big girls get more nasty comments than someone like me probably for my weight but I've still had some pretty nasty stuff said about my weight and I've had a decent number of people assume that I have an eating disorder when I don't.....but I have pictures of myself as a little girl that show that I was just always ridiculously skinny. I'm a bit over 5'8" and I tend to range somewhere between 98 and 106 pounds which sounds really bad to a lot of people but I go to the doctor and have just always been like that.

Anyway, yeah I agree cosmetics companies and everything want women to feel bad about how we look or they wouldn't make money off us. If we didn't feel like we need it, we wouldn't buy it.

I get so sick of all the anti-aging commercials too. We're all going to get old unless we die young so WHY MAKE PEOPLE FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. And it's so constant....you really can't watch anything on TV without seeing at least one anti-aging commercial. Some even go as far as saying "By age 20, your skin starts to lose it's whatever...". They're trying to hook every adult woman of any age into buying that stuff. Not to mention that no matter what someone looks like, we all age....they're essentially trying to make every single woman feel bad about herself at some point since we all age.

There is nothing wrong with getting old. It's a natural process and they should stop trying to make people feel bad about it. It's just annoying.
