the writers, animators and creative types at Pixar would be like the crew of wonderfully talented people who bring my favorite tv series, "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends", to life for Cartoon Network, and they'd hang out here. With us. NOT just hang out, as in "lurk", but participate in discussions, provide little tidbits of insider info every now and then, and most of all, LISTEN to fans.
At least one of the Foster's head writers/animators/producers, Lauren Faust(who happens to also be the fiance' of the show's creator, Craig McCracken)shows up as a regular on our TV.com Foster's forum. One reason I KNOW that the show's creative team is listening to us fans is due to the direction they're taking MY favorite character, Wilt, who reminds me more and more of Randall with each episode. Wilt has LOTS of female fans, and the show is really putting emphasis on that aspect of him, by putting him in situations that are bound to make any Wilt fangirl's heart beat faster! They're also showing this very competitive side to his nature, which is why I say he's reminding me more of Randall all the time, except that UNLIKE Randall, Wilt WILL cheat a bit to get something he wants! But anyway, they're also adding more "angsty" stuff with him, and in the fall, he'll have his own one-hour movie as he travels cross-country in search of his creator, and we get to find out more about HIS mysterious past(Randall's not the only one with a painful and mysterious past, and at least he has all his default body parts intact), all stuff that fans expressed a desire to see. Wouldn't it be great if the Pixar guys did the same thing, for those of us here?
Oh, well, we all know it's not a perfect world.

Wow, that must be awesome for you! A movie about your favorite character! :D I'm envious. I really which they'd do that for Randall, eh? *sighs wistfully*
That reminds me of the movie I just bought yesterday; the Full Metal Alchemist Movie: Conqueror of Shambala. It's, er... actually not supposed to be out over here yet (I own an illegal movie! *le gasp*), but I bought the Japanese version with English subtitles from an aisian import store in the West Edmonton Mall. I only got it yesterday afternoon, and even though I've had two shifts at work and have had homework and chores to do, I've managed to find time to watch it nearly three times. They've included little moments for each character (just to make us fangirls go squee!), and loads of brotherly love, which is really what a lot of us fans are watching for (plus little hints that imply a non-canon relationship that has a large following - Roy/Ed forever!). I doubt it's the same situation with your Fosters show (unless the Japanese fans like exactly what us Western fans do, and have written to the creator, which is possible), but the similarity just struck me. :) Forgive my rambling.

No, it's not rambling; it just indicates that there ARE networks and studios which DO listen to fans and give them what they want, instead of relying on "demographic studies" to determine what people would most like to see. Disney, and probably now Pixar, rely on studies done by big research companies to tell them what kinds of entertainment is best likely to succede, instead of doing what the people who create "Foster's Home..." are doing-actually going on sites where the real fans hang out and participating in discussions with them. Both Lauren Faust("Foster's Home...")and Jess Winfield("Lilo and Stitch" series)have openly ASKED us to tell them what sort of things we'd like to see. While both have also stated that they are not supposed to even read any fanfiction, it's obvious that they do. I know in both shows, and especially in "Foster's", the writers have reflected what fans want to see in the characters, and this was much evident in the last new episode, which aired in the US last Friday. It would be very nice if at least a few of Pixar's people could show up here, and find out how we feel about Randall, and show him in a different light when the sequel is made.

I agree that it would be wonderful, but I see why they don't. They could get in all sorts of legal trouble if, say, a sequel of Pixar's incoperated many elements of someone's fanfic, etc.; the author could sue for a part of the movie's profits if successful, claiming that their ideas were "stolen". As ff.net, at least, has the dates of publishing and updating, it would be relatively hard for the moviemaker to disprove that their movie was influenced. I'd like to think that a fan would just be delighted that their ideas were used (well, I would be), but there are really greedy people out there.

Well, I for one think that it's lovely that they're doing a 1-hour special for Wilt because the Foster's creators are listening to what their audience wants, and if only people from Pixar would do that, but there is a major difference between the two- Foster's is a TV series, whilst Pixar are making massive movies, and since Pixar have been doing so well, I guess that they think they don't need to listen to what fans are saying.

Wilt's getting his own minutes of fame? Yay for him ^_^ Minute? Many of the latest episodes have featured him very prominantly, and he's gettting his own MOVIE in November. And he hasn't just been getting more screen-time, but the way he's presented has changed a bit, too. He's not as much of a push-over as he was at the beginning of the series, when he'd pretty much let people walk all over him and wouldn't ever stick up for himself. Lately, Wilt's shown a tough, no-nonsense side when he needs to have one, and with some of those poses he strikes and things he does, there's no doubt that the show's writers are well-aware of his appeal to female viewers! I just hope that they don't start being TOO aware, and start caving in to the Wilt/Eduardo slashers . pitbulllady

If that IS the case, they'll be making a bald-faced liar out of John Lasseter, then, won't they? He DID go on national television here in the US, on the news show, "60 Minutes", and plainly state that Pixar intended to give the fans what they wanted! As he put it, when they(the Pixar creative teams)created those characters, they created them for the fans, and what the fans want, the fans get. It IS sad when any studio gets such a case of the "big head" that they think they are above and beyond listening to the fans, and it's pretty much a self-inflicted lethal wound, as well. pitbulllady

I dunno why I thought of this, but why don't they just make a Monster's INC tv series as they did with Buzz Lightyear? I thought Buzz was a good series, I personally liked it, but if they keep the original voice actors from the MI movie, then it'd probably be even better. Heck, even have the Buzz writers and directors come in and help and make it good. Unlike the "Emperor's School" thing. That just plain sucks, IMO.
Think about it; they can make some episodes about Randall (the show taking place WAY before the movie events), and he'd most likely be in all the episodes. Maybe they can even show an ep to where it's through his eyes.
Just a thought. =P

Just a thought. =P DISNEY, NOT Pixar, was responsible for making "Buzz Lightyear" into a series, and IF they made a "Monsters, Inc." series, you know that the LAST thing on Earth Disney would do would be to show ANYTHING from Randall's perspective! THAT would make him seem like somebody people could sympathize with, after all, and Disney has done everything possible, from their little books to their comics, to portray Randall as Evil Incarnate. It would not have been any different in a tv series, but probably would have even been much worse. pitbulllady
