Ever notice how almost everything associated with beauty, especially female beauty, is bad for you?
I was thinking about it the other day and realized that it's pretty much all unhealthy....
Heels - really bad for your feet, it's better to just wear other kinds of shoes and wear heels rarely if ever.
Tanning - not good for your skin, increased cancer risk, especially if people actually use tanning beds and not just the sun.
Breast implants/implants in general - I'm not really sure on the exact safety of these things but I have heard that people tend to need them replaced after so many years and that they can leak/rupture and of course putting no implants in will always be healthier for your body as far as I know.
Body Size Image - No matter what size society goes with as the so called 'beauty standard' it's never going to be good because so long as you pick any specific size as the standard....it's never going to be healthy because there will always be people who don't naturally fit into it. Not everyone is built the same genetically. Not everyone has the same set weight that is healthy for themselves specifically. Right now in the western world really thin seems to be the standard, at least in fashion and entertainment but even if it was some other size that was the standard, it's never a good thing because there will always be people left out of it who don't fit that standard naturally. I did see a program on TV where in another part of the world the standard of beauty is to be large, and back in the day in western society the beauty standard wasn't as thin as it is now. Either way none of it is really good because there will always be some people who won't fit into it naturally and for people who are more insecure about themselves, it's not helpful.
Make-Up - I'm sure that they do test most of this stuff but either way putting on nothing is probably still the most healthy since then you know for sure you aren't exposing yourself to any chemicals.
Anyway, there are probably other things too but I was just thinking about it the other day and realized how it's pretty much all unhealthy.
I have of course done some of the things listed....I do sometimes wear make-up....mostly just eye make-up and there are a number of days lately where I have worn nothing but I do still wear it sometimes. I also can't say I've never worn high heels because I have done it on occasion but not for a really long time now(it was mostly back when I also used to wear tons of make-up to cover my birthmark and was more insecure about my looks). Most of my shoes these days are very flat or have a very tiny amount of heel. I just feel like I'd rather care more about my health than trying to look a certain way but it is hard not to be influenced by it all at least somewhat at times. It's just amazing how really none of it is healthy when you think about it all.
I know this post is somewhat of a rant. I just find it annoying how it's hard to go anywhere without seeing these standards of beauty slapped in your face and how none of them are even healthy for you. It pressures people into feeling like doing stuff that isn't really the best for them. People can do these things if they want, it is a choice and that's fine, but I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't do it if they didn't feel any pressure....because a lot of the stuff, like wearing high heels, isn't even comfortable so I don't think people would do it otherwise.
