Perhaps there's already a topic about this but I didn't see one.
Anyway, I like and appreciate Randall's character for multiple reason but I also have to say that one of those reasons is definitely because he's sexy.
Honestly in some ways I don't even understand why I think he is....I'm not someone who's normally attracted to non-human characters(and other non-human characters I do find attractive are humanoid...like they look pretty close to a human....or have a human-like form like Envy for example....he has a human-looking form he takes on).
So Randall is like an exception for me. LOL. (And yes he's reptile-looking but I don't find actual reptiles attractive, or any animals for that matter....I like them....but not in that kind of way.....Randall talks and acts like a human but he's still the most un-human looking character I've ever found extremely attractive).
So sometimes it boggles my mind as to why I find Randall sexy but I do. ;D It probably helps that his voice actor, Steve Buscemi, is attractive to me....but that's certainly not the only reason.
I was 17 back when MI first came out so I was already at an age where I found Randall attractive the first time I saw him since I wasn't a little kid. I don't recall admitting it much though back then, I felt kind of odd about it. It's only more recently that I've embraced the fact that I do.
I do always wonder what it is exactly though because although I have of course been a fan of other characters that looked nothing human, I've never had a huge attraction on any of them aside from Randall. LOL. Just shows how sexy he is I guess. ;D
I do feel a bit more open talking about it too because I have noticed that some other fans also feel the same way.
For anyone else who likes him in that way though, is he really one of the only non-human looking characters you have liked in that way also?
I bet it would help Randall's self-esteem if he saw a bunch of people saying how hot he is. ;D

I'd have to second everything you just said, even though it has been often-enough discussed here! I love Randall for a variety of reasons, and I can relate deeply and personally to his situation and experiences in the movie, having been through something similar in my young, naive days at work, with a supervisor who was similar to Waternoose, but I cannot deny that a large part of his appeal to me is that he IS sexy as hell! Like you, I'm at a loss as to why. I love reptiles, just not in anything that can remotely be called sexual, same with other animals. I don't relate to "Furries" or other people who DO identify with non-human animals in a sexual way; I don't dislike them, but I honestly don't and cannot "get it". I guess in a way I'm a "Xenophile", since many of the characters I've found to be most attractive aren't human, and of those the closest to being human is a blue-skinned, big-headed(in more ways than one)extraterrestrial with a thing for Heavy Metal and biker gear, lol. But Randall is still a bit of a mystery to even me, as to why I find him so attractive. It's NOT the "Draco In Leather Pants" trope, either; I have never been into "villains" or "bad guys" for the most part, not when I could believe they were really bad. When watching a movie with a real villain, for instance Scar, I've always just wanted to see them get their comeuppance, and with some, it's been a relief to see their demise. I never ever thought that Randall was a real villain or even inately bad, and part of that has to do with my own experiences in just how easy it is for a "good" person to get caught up in something like he did and wind up making decisions that ultimately lead to them doing things that ARE bad. His "badness" is NOT part of his appeal for me, but rather, those glimpses of something other than that. When it comes to finding Randall so attractive, though, at least I can take refuge in the fact that I'm not alone in that; clearly many of his fans DO find him very sexy, whether or not they'll admit it! A LOT of people relate to him, and not as a "villain", either; if you read the Monsters, Inc. section on FF.net you will see that an overwhelming majority of the fanfics there, new and old, are "Randall-centric", and few of them feature him as even the antagonist. Go on Deviant Art, and you'll see the same thing, with most of the MI fanart there featuring Randall, and while there are more members there who do believe he was the "bad guy", most are pretty reasonable when it comes to accepting that he did what he did NOT because he was "evil", but because of his circumstances. Many there also find him attractive, which is one of the reasons he's the subject of so much art in the first place. Ironically, though, I've only read ONE fanfic or seen a couple of artists' fanart which featured the theme of Randall and a human female, so it seems that a lot of the fans who find him attractive themselves aren't as open and honest about it enough to be comfortable with the notion of him and a human female as a couple. Back when the movie was still out, some blogger on the 'net had a site called "Acting For Animators", or something like that, in which he reviewed animated movies. He specifically mentioned what he referred to as Randall's "oily, if not overt, sexuality" as being part of the character's persona, and said something to the effect that at the end of a workday at MI, he could only picture Sulley going home, having a hot bath, watching some tv and then going to bed, while Randall would head out to the bars and try to pick up some babes, lol!

LOL. Anyway, sorry to hear that you had a supervisor similar to Waternoose a long time ago. I don't like employers like that, even if it was me getting the special treatment....I just don't agree with that. I'm very much for fairness. I don't have a lot of work experience personally, I'm pretty young and even most of my 20-something years so far have been spent in school, but I've certainly experienced rude and unfair treatment from a number of people throughout my life. I've been considered different and a freak by a number of people for having a birthmark on one side of my face(obvious in this picture of me: frigida.homestead.com/files/KathleenFace1.jpg ). Being super thin has also caused some people to be really mean to me and make assumptions about my health despite the fact that I've just always been extremely thin, even as a very young child. I think a lot of people get crap from people for various reasons but that makes the characters who get treated unfairly easier to relate to by a lot of people. I too have always appreciated reptiles and animals in general. As a little girl I would pick up a lot of creatures that were considered gross to many other girls. So some people considered me a tomboy although I don't know I'd really call myself one....I'm also pretty girly and wear dresses and skirts and what not. So yeah, I've always appreciated and felt connected to anything that seemed to be misunderstood in some way. As for Furries, yeah I don't consider myself one of those people, even if Randall is considered a 'furry' type of interest, it's just not something I'm normally into. Randall is just an exception as being the most un-human looking character I've been really attracted to. I don't have a problem with people being into furries, I just don't feel like I'm one of them. Anyway, I am actually usually a fan of the 'villains/bad guy' characters although I find that most of the 'villains' I like are misunderstood in some way and have something deep about them. Like Envy for example, who clearly does things like kill a child which is really messed up.....but since he was born out of a sin(envy) and his creator has power over his life....and just all the tragic feelings he has which come out at the end just before he kills himself.....I wouldn't call him pure evil, despite the fact that he did some really bad things. Randall is of course, even further from being a villain. I never like the ones that seem pure evil and like they have no tragic reason for being the way that they are. As for Scar, well, he's alright....he's certainly an actual villain and I wouldn't consider myself much of a fan of him but I do in a way find that whole "First born gets to be king thing." a little annoying because it is a bit unfair. I think they should really have some kind of contest where whichever child wins gets to be the next ruler. At least that would seem like a more fair way of deciding it. Anyway I'm actually never happy when villains die, even if they really were evil and I'm not even a fan of them. It's just because I'm one of those people who hates for anyone to die....like I don't agree with the death penalty(and well we don't have it here in Canada anyway although we used to). Of course there are chances when villains had the chance to step down but they still didn't and that's why they died at the end. I don't feel as bad for them then. Also, I'm totally fine with the idea of Randall with a female human. XD I'm willing to admit that I've had fantasies in my mind before about him with me....me still being my human self in them! LOL. I have also had some though where I'll think of myself as a monster with him but that's only because it offers different scenarios....like it varies the fantasies a bit. Anyway in general I don't mind what anyone wants to pair with him because people have different tastes and likes but for me I definitely like Randall x female human and Randall x female monster.

There are some mysteries to this phenomena, though I innocently and firmly declare it as nothing more than 'art appreciation', rather than believe such an occurrence would suggest any sort of impediment in a regular sexual response.
Throughout history, art and creativity has been intended to allow us to connect emotionally with the world around us, and each and every person is different. When something we see softens or melts our hearts, and leads us to thinking sensitive, empathetic thoughts, the emotion can ALWAYS trigger something physical at any given moment... but that doesn't mean anything strange or unusual is going on. Randall indeed has an EXTREME vulnerability to him as a character, which is why so many have connected to him over the years and sympathized with him, and why he is so appreciated. Even at his toughest moment, there is always this naked yearning and desperation about him underscoring his actions, and that DOES make him very touching.
There are a few other factors at play. Think of Middle-Earth: In 'The Lord of the Rings', the very culture of the Elves is deliberately created as smooth, angelic, and rounded; emulating beauty, but the Dwarf culture represents stoutness, pride, strength, and might - due to all the weapons and architechture having right angles and sharp points.
Everything in art is customizable. As far as how to 'make' a character look sexy... I'd say credit that to the drawer or sketcher. It all starts on the sketchpad, and HOW you draw something or someone. You could just as easily draw the SAME character, and make him absolutely intimidating and frightening, with the right techniques. You can trigger pleasant, sensual emotions, and you can also trigger very grim and frightful emotions... all with drawing technique.

I still have to wonder though, if the animators and artists at Pixar DELIBERATELY set out to make their monster characters sexually appealing to humans. In MI, Randall was pretty much the only one who'd been seen as such, but LO, when MU came out, that was like an entire fest of really hot guys and ladies! Maybe it's just that the internet culture had changed so much; most of the real fans of Randall and MI has been around since MI came out in 2001, but MU opened up their world to a new, much-younger audience. But that still leaves me pondering whether or not any of that was intentional. I mean, In LoTR, the filmmakers KNEW that they wanted the Elves to be very attractive beings, and that actually was in keeping with traditional Celtic lore in which Elves and the Fae were NOT these tiny little things with pointy ears and such, but tall, imposingly beautiful beings who possessed great powers and were not to be trifled with at all! I still have to picture the Pixar animators sitting around their drawing boards, coming up with designs for, oh, Johnny Worthington, and saying things like, "now how can we make this guy REALLY attractive to human females", lol. I do think that a lot of credit needs to go the actors behind those characters, who infused so much of their own personalities there, even though you don't actually SEE them. That is probably even more true of Johnny than of Randall, since Johnny comes really close to mirroring Nathan Fillion's facial expressions, gestures, etc., just with a somewhat different accent.

So yeah, I just wanna make it clear that I am a heterosexual male who loves women and is very attracted to them. Which is why it’s so so strange and semi-embarrassing for me that I have a crush on Randall from Monsters Inc. Like, I shouldn’t be attracted to him because he is a guy and he is a scumbag, too, doing what he did to Boo, but yet, I find his body to be attractive. It seems almost as if he has a more feminine design to his body than a male one. I mean the way he swiftly and quickly moves, and that evil smile he has honestly just turns me on. The smiles he has are sexy enough, but the evil smiles he has when he has Mike and Boo to the scream extractor just make me wish he was real so that I could just masturbate all over him. Same thing with when he catches Boo during the door chase scene and says, “haha, nice working with ya”, before he makes the door that Mike and Sulley are on fall. And I am not attracted to Steve Buscemi at all. Yet his voice for Randall makes me attracted to Randall even more. Especially his laugh when Mike says kidnapping him won’t help him cheat his way to the top. I seriously don’t know if I am insane because I’m not gay but yet I am so attracted to Randall because of his body, the way he moves, his voice, his evil smiles (especially when Boo and Mike are in the scream extractor), his laugh, and his sneakiness are for some reason all attractive to me, a heterosexual dude. I really wanted to get these thoughts out because I didn’t feel like talking to any friends about this because this sounds weird when I say it out loud. But I just find Randall to be so sexy and I have always found him sexy when I was younger and still do today. So what do you guys think? Am I weird for this or is this somewhat normal? Because when Randall does sneaky things like kidnapping Mike and evilly smiling when Boo and Mike are in the scream extractor, he seriously makes me wish I could have sex with him right then and there and when he says “haha” during the door chase scene and when he laughs when he says, “you still think this is about that stupid scare record?” What do you guys think of this? I feel like I am going in circles.

I feel like I am going in circles.[My response is here in red, because I don't know how to quote people for the life of me] I remember reading this comment a couple months ago and being shocked that there was someone out there with such a strong attraction towards what is more or less a lizard. I've thought about what you said, and after a bit of debate I decided to create an account so I could get back to you, let you know that you're not alone here.
I'm going to be honest with you, your feelings are . . . weird. Abnormal. At least, to such a strong degree. I've come across some people online who've had crushes on Randall, sure, but what you have sounds less like a crush and more like a burning, passionate fervor unlike any I've seen before. However, I'm not judging you, because I have the same emotions.
I get more than turned on by the guy. Everything about him gets me, from his laugh to his personality to his body. And may I just say, he has a very appealing body. I usually pause scenes he appears in just to look at him and wonder what it'd be like to run my hands over that scaly underbelly of his, to slip his fronds into my mouth and kiss them. But I also get attracted while I'm not pausing scenes, because I'm always admiring his movements. They're so magnificent, so fluid, and I can't get enough of them. You're absolutely right about his smile, too - that smirk is the end of me.
I do so wish he was real. I've played out sexual fantasies in my mind of me and him; I've written out said sexual fantasies into a very cringey fanfiction - in other words, I want nothing more than for him to be here and at my side. But while he is, unfortunately, fictional (at least, as far as I know) I can still touch myself over him. I've never told anyone this in real life, because no one would understand, but here I feel more akin to everyone, so I suppose I'll say it. I'm still trying to keep it as PG as possible, though, because you can never know who'll be reading this in the future. XD
Like you, I'm not attracted at all to Steve Buscemi, but I wouldn't have anyone else voicing Randall. Something about his voice is just so addicting. I could play it on a ten hour loop and never get tired of it.
Have a good day.
