Title: one old brand new year before Summary: Quiet dinner reminiscing on a past New Year's celebration. Crossover AU with "Monsters, Inc." (pre-canon for both films). Previous: greedyslayer.livejournal.com/161721.html#cutid1Beginning Notes: Quick little low-key something for New Year's. Again, scenes from a longer fic plotbunny I have. BabyMind is mostly 'Indigo' in this context. Continual thanks to grandiose_me for this thought: "Baby Megamind is so cute that I'm surprised there are no 'Megamind's ship crashes into my/someone better's backyard instead of the prison/ fics like you see swimming around the HP fandom." Disclaimer: I don't own anything related to Megamind or Monsters, Inc. Fic at the link below: greedyslayer.livejournal.com/161846.html

This was so amazingly good, yet sad to consider how much the lives of those two characters could have been changed and set on different "destinies" had it been true. I suspect, as do many of Randall's fans, that Randall's own childhood was not unlike that of Megamind in HIS movie, something most of us would consider Hell. Randall has a lot of the same issues that MM has, but deals with them in different ways. As a surrogate parent, he'd be very much aware of how he treated his "kid", fearing that he'd wind up being too much like the monsters in his childhood who helped turn him into that cynical, somewhat angry and bitter individual and put up that proverbial "wall", to use Pink Floyd's example. He knows he has to balance being a firm disciplinarian with being a kind and loving parent, but if he's never had an example of such a person, he'd be all too self-conscious about his perceived inadequacies as a parent/guardian, ESPECIALLY with a kid who gives whole new meaning to the term, "prodigy"!
On the humor side, though, I really got a laugh at his reaction to checking to see if "Indigo" has a fever-"He'll live", LOL! That is SO a "daddy" thing to say! Mom would likely fuss and look for the thermometer and whatever medicine is supposed to make a fever go down, and put the doctor on speed dial just in case, but Dad? "Meh, he'll live." If there's no broken bones sticking out through skin or arterial blood pumping everywhere or the kid's not rolling on the floor foaming at the mouth, no biggie. I also got a laugh out of Randall trying to explain why there were certain drinks at the party that kids(and talking fish)could not consume, without going into TOO much detail.
You have totally got me obsessed with this movie, seriously. I'd just about give my next paycheck to see it IMAX! Just having watched several of the trailers and promos on the internet is enough to keep me up at night, and now that this (HOPEFULLY)rumored "prequel" to MI has been mentioned, IF Pixar makes Randall nothing more than a school bully in it, without showing WHY he's that way, they can kiss my fat butt, seriously. Just from what I've seen and read, Megamind ought to be required viewing for every teacher and guidance counselor and student, for the messages it sends on bullying, acceptance, and redemption.

So yeah I'll just say this guys, definitly see this movie if you get the chance.
Plus this fic is really awesome and it's fun bumping off ideas.
Of course now I kind of want to try a crossover too with this movie and all only differently in my book. I hope that's okay. I'll possibly give it a shot if I have the time anyway. Another AU thing.
Like have them all the same ages they are in their respective films and instead have Boo disappear on her parents while they're on vacation to Metrocity and end up in Megaminds lair through sneaking on board his mode of transport at the time when he's fleeing metroman. Maybe set a year before the events of MM would generally take place.
Quite quickly MM thinks she's the perfect candidate for an heir of some kind. (Because she laughs at slapstick and everything like with Mike in the movie so thinks she has 'potential' for that reason alone). Because every "evil overlord" needs an heir he suddenly thinks and he kind of doubts he'd um ever get one the traditional way nor would anyone let him adopt anyway thinking she's on her own. And MM gets way too attached and is completely neglecting his evil plans too much. Roxanne's suspicions will also mean trouble. But at first he thinks Boo is on her own completely but it turns out her parents are looking for her, so he has to decide whether to be selfish or not. (Guess what choice he'll make at first? I kind of like the idea of say him stuffing in his panic a missing poster in his pocket and turning off the tv in panic multiple times and Minion later finding the poster in the laundry to his annoyance.)
Sorry if that sounds weird, I kind of think it would be hilarious though in its own way. I kind of also want to write a full M.I. fanfic on the consequences of the fact I place this in the time frame of M.I. too. Basically Sulley and Randall having an conversation and Sulley getting a bit too curious afterwards. No Boo involvement at all. Kind of the consequences of that too- I mean if you think about it, Sulley might still be sorting a bit of the paperwork when Randall comes back in that senario in any case, he would possibly see Randall's outline or when he stuck his head out at any rate and maybe even call to him.
They might even crossover for real. I'm not sure about that though. Maybe I should just have in the formers case, just a random kid though, I mean if I only intend Boo to crossover...
But then I kind of like the idea all the same and the kid would be more or less exactly like her in the end.
