I'm looking at DA and just noticed a purple border and out of curiousity, clicked on the link...and I have to say that DA is doing a very nice thing here, along with some other websites as well. DA from the 20th til friday is celebrating Spirit day which is a day to commerate the teens whose lives were lost due to bullying. Being someone who was bullied growing up myself, I love what the site is doing and honestly think it's a wonderful idea. It's clear that now with technology and the internet that bullying is getting worse, I've seen many examples of it on other sites from people posting hate vids to pics to just the ugly comments that show just how cruel some people are. While it's true that this doesn't mean that bullying in school and online will end any time soon, it's nice to know that it helps nonetheless.

That sounds really cool! About Spirt and stuff-very creative to do something like that! I even made a shout-out to a guy at my school on Youtube to ignore two kids who thinked he liked Sandy-For God's sake, I keep forgetting to tell them he could kill himself if they keep it up. Unfortonuley, I took it down, due to how everyone is acting.

I do think what DA is doing is very cool although some people are being jack a$$e$ about it! Because of the fact that this spirit day was first created due to the fact that some of the teens that committed suicide were gay or lesbian, it's sparked some controversy in DA, members who apparantly don't like homosexuals are demanding that the purple border be taken off their DA page because some of them are claiming that it is political views being shoved down their throat! Sheesh, the color is only going to stay that way til Friday, if some members on DA are that much of homophobes then they should just not log on til Friday because then the color will be changed back!

Sadly that's almost to be suspected.
Of course their reasonings are rediculous. So... bringing horrific prejudice to light, which causes people to take their own lives is a bad thing?
Ugh. It may not have been bullying which precisely brought those dark thoughts about myself to mind when I was younger, but of course anything which helps kids in this area is great, especially since this is a real issue even in our so called 'developed' countries.
Honestly I feel it's because they're uncomfortable with it- because even if THEY never technically bullied someone on this basis, they are the people whose attitudes make this sort of thing go on as well as the type of people who would stand by and do nothing. Which makes them just as much at fault. They are a part of the problem because their attitudes and beliefs cause this sort of environment to develop and this sort of thing to happen in the first place.
Or perhaps they've actually done some of the bullying themselves.
Regardless, they need to be told the truth- you can't have a political standing and debate on the TRUTH. Kids DO kill themselves over this and trying to sweep it under the rug is not doing anyone any favours- apart from the bigots themselves of course. Oh waa waa, they feel 'uncomfortable'? My levels of sympathy for them are quite low I'm afraid. Having my 'beliefs' challenged was the best thing that ever happened to me in the long run even if in the short term there was discomfort.
Telling the truth and getting the word out about this sort of thing is IMPORTANT.

Yeah, it looks like the nation is finally taking bullying as a serious matter, after a sudden outburst of suicides, mostly from kids being bullied for being gay. One Ohio school has had 4 recent suicides, all products of bullying, and is getting charges pressed because the kids did go to the school to report the harassment and nothing was done. To top it off, they destroyed the records of the victims' reports.
I think the thing that really broke my heart was the story of the girl that was bullied and only had another week or so before she transferred schools. They girls who bullied her went to her funeral and made fun of her. That's not even underlying insecurities, that's just plan evil.
