As a challenge to myself, I'm trying to write about the character Mike Wazowski and try to get the essence of his character eventually without my own experiences colouring my opinion on him too much. To get to grips with him, so when I write him, he's in character. Also it's kind of an interesting exercise to think about in general, about how our experiences can colour opinions on characters in sometimes just but sometimes unjust ways. I've posted the introduction here on my livejournal account. Opinions? mentalguru.livejournal.com/7590.html#cutid1

I think the intro that you have is very well written and does make the topic of deconstruncting a character sound interesting but since you did point out that Mike ain't exactly your favorite, it's going to be a pretty good challenge in writing about him without letting those other influences get in the way. What also caught my attention was when you talked a bit about your version of Randall and Mike that you have known personally...it sounds like a pretty dark time in your life but I'm kind of speculating on that cause I don't know you personally nor do I know that much in relation to your personal life. Either way, I think what you have is a pretty good start so far.

Well, it's one of those times which is definitly odd with hindsight. I'm honestly not sure I would have survived or held on much longer had things not changed on some level. Maybe I would have, maybe not, but honestly it IS one of those things which sometimes make me wonder when I hear of kids from loving families seeming to kill themselves for no reason. You don't really know what's going on in those kids minds sometimes. Some them are really wirring and are influenced by things in strange ways. Sometimes, you really are your worst enemy, let's just say. While of course outside influences other than myself clearly affected my viewpoints and decisions over matters at the time (including an Aunt, certain religious leaders and books and said former best friend) and thus my internal state, overall, people would have not had a clue either if I'd done the same thing as said tragic cases. Probably. I just seemed quiet.
But no matter what my misgivings, this probably should not be used to form an opinion and derail a character in fanfic. It is fine, if after this exercise, I am not keen on him still, but I should still at the very least explore him. Plus he's not evil incarnate.
But yeah, this should be an interesting exercise. I kind of want to see what I can find with it. I think to begin with though I'm thinking more of stating Mike's ROLE in the movie and his usefuleness in certain areas. (In the latter's case, he IS a good source of information for the enthustiastic world builder for instance.) Because each character has something to say about the world they live end by how they act or what they say... and Mike says a lot it has to be said.
I hope to keep this something which is also entertaining, so there WILL hopefully be funny parts as well. I plus will have to go and see if I can find pictures on the internet to use to break up some of the text. (Probably).

Ah, I think that Mike is trend-conscious, and somewhat self-centered. No offense to the eyeball.
