Calling all Avatar: TLA fans. Heard of the sequel in the works to our much beloved cartoon?
Korra the next Avatar in line, 70 years after the last show ended, a female water-tribe Avatar in a steam punk world where she goes to learn her final element (air) from Aang and Katara's son Tenzin. Amusingly, there has already been fanart AND fanfic on the idea, using those two characters and sometimes Aang as Korra's spirit guide.
While I'm slightly upset Aang only lived until his early to mid 60s this was more or less explained through him burning through some years in the iceberg (fair enough), and at least he got some time and had a family.
Either Tenzin will have airbending kids or airbending nephews/nieces and great nephews and nieces too, since of course the air benders must continue!
Crack shipping has also already commenced with Korra and Tenzin, they're not serious though at all. Korra I believe is at least 16, and apparently this show will be slightly more mature than the last one from what I gather from this fact. But she's already learned three elements so I'm thinking she learned she was Avatar earlier like Aang. Maybe. And then learned quickly even if it wasn't 'Aang quick' who had the pressure of a whole war and a comet deadline to make.
She's apparently "hotheaded, independent, and ready to take on the world".
While I'll miss Aang, and she'll never replace him for me, I'm thinking I'll like her and at least he may be a spirit guide like Roku was for Aang which will be pretty cool.
The premise apparently is that there is an antibending sentiment in the city where she goes to find Aang's son which she must fight against.
Theories range from fear, jealousy to perhaps the idea that since bending is spiritual based it is holding back the development and industry they're trying to follow in this steampunk world which causes these sentiments. I like the last idea myself, as it seems pretty unique. But a combination with the fears could be good too. As long as they keep to the grey areas and have someone or something interesting like Zuko (though of course not an exact copy) in terms of the greyness of situations sometimes, I'll be quite happy in any case. I'm hoping it isn't totally black and white and perhaps we have someone, or in fact a group of people who could be considered while antagonists, at least vaguely understandable and not the saturday morning cartoon villains which I don't expect from Bryke at all. (I want brilliance and stubterfuge which again could make Azula quake too if possible. .)
I also want my bad-ass normals please like Mai, Ty Lee and Suki were.
I'm very excited!
