I wasn't sure if anyone else was going to see it but despite not being a big horror enthusiast, I actually want to see this film. Around last week, I took the time to see all of Wes Craven's films of the Nightmare series also not to mention New Nightmare and Freddy vs Jason. I have to say that I did enjoy them and actually learned that Freddy wasn't the type of villian that I thought him to be (actually thought he was the hack up your blood and guts type of guy but was too little to watch the original films in the first place so I didn't know). Despite the outrage from the diehard Nightmare fans, I think the remake doesn't look too bad actually...is anyone else planning to see it? Here's the trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAZI5kOCr4kDue the fact that this stuff is copyrighted, Youtube won't allow it to be viewed outside of their site.

Maybe. I probably would want to see the original first, and if I do see the original I might not end up bothering.
(With Watchmen, I was unaware of its existence before the movie, I decided to read the comic first, and while I thought it was a great comic, I ended up not bothering to go see the movie. XD)
I'm not that usually big on horror all the time either. But I can enjoy it on some level. Granted I prefer smart horror, though I am shamefully unaware if whether Nightmare on Elm Street qualifies (does it)? And maybe something with something surprising/clever in the end that makes your eyes go wide from shock/surprise but also makes you go "Oh, that is totally plausible/totally makes sense in context", you know the things which require huge spoiler tags for some movie fans.
Granted, there are many famous films I have not seen. I've seen like ONE star wars movie (of the older trilogy, and the very last one, I vaguely remember Vader telling his son had saved him and his body being burned but I might be misremembering. I was half asleep and we were on a trip to France with the school and one of the teachers had it). I have not seen the Princess Bride or ANY of the Godfather movies, and I feel it's probably almost blasphemous I haven't seen The Big Wazowski... I mean Lebowski.... LOL.

If I see it, I'll end up laughing the whole time. Why? Jackie Earle Haley's voice is cracking me up because he's using his Rorschach voice. I end up giggling at every preview because of it, expecting him to go into one of his journal rants. I'll probably rent it with a few friends around Halloween this year, but I'm in no rush to see it. I think it looks like an amazing remake. I might even prefer it to the original.

Well, if you do see the original, don't expect anything too fancy, the film was made in the eighties so the effects aren't as impressive but I liked it though...as for it being a smart film, I'm not sure if it qualifies since it's about a killer that gets you through your dreams though. Talked with my brother, we're planning to see it wednesday and possibly his girlfriend might come (not sure if she will since she isn't a nightmare fan period, also because I don't want to force her to go if she doesn't want to) but still, I'm pretty excited about this though. ;D

Tell me how it is. I might go see it if I can get someone to go with me. Which is likely now that some of my friends are starting to come back home for the summer.

Just for the record, it seems that "smart" horror movies tend to be titled thrillers. Not that I disagree with that; there IS a significant difference between movies like zombie-like/mutation-ridden "The Hills Have Eyes", and with what I've heard are called thrillers, like Cry Wolf (featuring a somewhat minor role of Bon Jovi as a college professor! ;D). Even the Master of Suspense himself generally tended to have his thrillers be "smart", the only notable exception being "The Birds".
I also feel that no matter how scary a zombie movie is, I may always be more scared by a "smart" scary movie; in most cases, the latter actually COULD happen.

Psychological horrors and thrillers are amazing. Like Jacob's Ladder. I adore that movie. I tend to like about all horror films since they always provide amusement, but it's the "smart" ones that stay with me. Of course, I love a gore fest too.
Speaking of which, I just stumbled upon a movie called The Human Centipede that's coming out and the trailer actually...well...I don't know. I'm not sure if I should be disturbed or laugh. See for yourself.
Edit: My friend wanted to see it for his birthday, so we went today. Meh, I'm not sure how I feel about it. The story could have used some work. It seems like just right when they were going to actually do something with it, they swapped it for a shock scene. And that's pretty much where the only horror is, cheap shock scenes where the music startles you more than what's happening on the film. Jackie Earle Haley's Freddy was...questionable. I just didn't care for it all that much.

As we can tell from my current sig, I just got my hands on the Blu ray/dvd combo pack of the Nightmare remake, just saw every special feature on the disc with the exception of the trivia track where it shows the movie and shows little bits at the bottom that talks about certain parts in the movie...I am amazed that in this film, they didn't use as much CGI as I thought they did. The different struggles and challenges that they faced with this movie is just amazing but even the small amount of CGI that was used is amazing as well. It's for that kind of awsome stuff that is why I want to go into computer animation, it truly is an awsome field. I would say that the only disappointment I had with the disc is that the menus is just a pic of the movie's poster which is a little disappointing because I really like when they put animations and such to them because it makes it the more interesting and appealing to me because it's that extra effort that was put into it that I liked. Also, the film had an alternate ending as well which I think was a little better than the actual ending because it was the irony between Krueger and Nancy that was displayed, honestly makes me wish that they would have kept that. Either way, awsome film.

Apparantly Freddy Krueger can scare more than children, he can scare your pets too. Yesturday, I decided to watch my dvd of the Nightmare remake with Calavera this time as part of my taming sessions with her...that was clearly not a good idea. She froze about four times while watching the movie and nearly freaked out on me during the final scene and the twist ending, after I put her back, she was very cautious and didn't really do much for the rest of the night and tonight, she's been doing that again...I guess choosing a horror film to be her first movie wasn't a good idea but I'm hoping that this will blow over in a few days but I'm definitely going to wait on showing her anymore horror, with Calavera we might need to stick to movies with snakes or cartoons.
