Does anyone ever have a fandom they sometimes wish they could get into too?
I sort of feel the same way about Terry Pratchett books but especially the one he wrote with Neil Gaiman (Good Omens). I have read ONE fanfic on that book- and it was amazing and entertaining just like the book itself. Read some Neil Gaiman. He's alright too but no Pratchett.
I am so sad TP is not going to write any more books- I haven't read them ALL, but I know I eventually will.
The Doctor Who fandom slightly terrifies me, and I have't stepped my toe into it THAT much- seems to be either old Who!elitists versus squeeing fangirls.
I kind of want to see some old who (but am daunted by the sheer MASS of material/series out there- after all I'd have EIGHT doctors to do). Only ever seen the first EVER doctor who episode though- in black and white- it was in 1963... I clearly have some catching up to do- but this is basically something made before sci fi was upped in the 70s).
A part of me would be scared to join the fandom more because there is a new doctor and there will be people wither rabidly defending/dissing him already.
Donna Noble s my favourote companion though so far- wasn't a love interest for the doctor at all- she was more or less having a sisterly/buddy bond with him which was awesome. I hated how they took her out though.
(Still she had great LINES sometimes- she could be obnoxious yes, but she CARED a lot. Her reactions seemed real- she'd be stubborn but then warm up. At first I thought she was a humanfemale!Wazowski (very offputting), but she really ended up being so much MORE than that- more Celia-ish only less swoony and without the nicknames. She called the Doctor out on stuff, unlike the others who... kind of went all misty eyed). I kind of love their buddy-friendship. She's not always the sharpest, but she had her moments.
Especially in her first full episode- when the Doctor went over the top (overkill) on the villain and he left her to meet up with her again much later:
Donna: Promise me one thing though, Doctor. The Doctor: What's that? Donna: That you'll find somebody. The Doctor: I don't need anybody. Donna: Yes you do. Because I think sometimes you need somebody to stop you.

Well, in my opinion, there are much worse sci-fi TV shows than Docter Who. Take the X-Files, for instance. I couldn't even watch a relatively normal-life episode (the only exception being some bizarre photo phenomenons) without feeling disturbed in every way possible (in that episode, or instance, the villain was a crazy woman killer, that, surprisingly, was a human, convinced that they were infected by things called Howlers, and stabbed them in gruesome ways in order to kill them). In my opinion, the only thing in the X-Files that is worth noting is the soundtrack for seasons 1 and 2, available under the title "The Truth and the Light".

Oh- I LIKE Doctor Who myself- it's mostly a family show. TORCHWOOD is the spin off you have to watch out for. I nearly completely gave up on it though just by the first episode (like I aid they kind of overdid the sex thing- ESPECIALLY with the first alien and what she did- it made me want to roll my eyes a lot). But it got better. Granted while I like sci fi/fantasy sometimes- because it can give a world to explore, SOMETIMES it kind of bothers me- I mean to say when sometimes a whole 'race' is developed and they ALL have this personality trait- it doesn't necessarily have to be 'they're evil' thing (though that does happen and can be hideously boring) but things like EVERY single member of an alien 'race' being excellent at mechanics for instance. I don't get it. I can get a PLANET being famous for something such as mechanics but that shouldn't mean every single member displays the same ability. Not if they're sentient anyway or at least not a 'clone race' but even then there's GOT to be a 'mutant' out there right (I sometimes think the 'evil' races which you get are just not as socially developed as humans in a certain areas if I think about them at all). Thing is- I mean it's kind of like saying Japan- famous for tech and anime, is a place where EVERY Japanese person can draw/ build a robot almost. That is not true. Not every person, just because they're from a certain area displays those skills. I really don't think so somehow. That sort of thing can bug me.

Have just watched Planet 51. (Yes I caved). Fun enough movie (even if the fact they spoke english/were exactly like the American 50s was never explained- it wasn't totally skated over but still).
Unsurprisingly out of the 12 fics on ff.net 9 of them are slash (Lem/Chuck- the alien teen and the human astronaut). Chuck at times got annoying but he came through (was extremely selfish for a while there but looked out for the guy eventually).
Granted I don't like the fact I think the kid is supossed to be- what 15? But ah well.
I wasn't exactly all that surprised.
Many pop culture references.
Crowning moment of awesome?
(SPOILER)
When Chuck the human saved the army general who had wanted to kill him (thinking him an evil alien force with all the cliches that come in an alien movie prior to that).
...
It kind of makes you wonder though if the humans eventually go all Avatar (the movie not the cartoon) on their asses though.
(I have yet to see Avatar and actually might never do so but have alredy been terribly spoiled).
Silly movie. But fun, and just THAT moment where Chuck saved him as well as when he talks to Lem after realising how selfish he's been and how much the kid has been helping him made it a worthwhile movie. Not fantastic but fun and it had its moments.

Yeah, I've had a mild interest in that movie, myself. Really helps break the stereotypes of aliens who want to destroy the world, from what I've seen. ;D

I have many fandoms, but very few stand the test of time like Randall does. Still, there are a few. I'm still a huge fan of Digimon and I doubt my love for Silent Hill with ever fade. My main fandom is always different. Usually something I just discovered are recently got into a again. I love animated films, graphic novels, and books.
I just have too many fandoms. Lol.
Right now, I'm obsessed with Fullmetal Alchemist and How To Train Your Dragon. I'm also in an on and off Digimon mood. My love for Franken Fran is now back due to the series finally updating again. Woot!
I have to comment on something that SgtYayap said about Invader Zim. It really is a fandom that get very much ruined by it's fanbase. So much mpreg. So much.

Because of an Animated Disney/Pixar meme (of which I've agreed to do... four prompts... the wisdom of this shall be noted on on a later date, but I'm making progress). I am dipping my toe into the Princess and the Frog fandom. 9Little mermaid crossover, despite the obvious timeline mess-up I think I can make it work).
Also on the same meme, two of the prompts were Monsters Inc (which I was thrilled over even just seeing, the only other Pixars so far are Toy Story... granted one was Sulley/Randall... but since its allowable by the rules, I'm doing something platonic there since they left me wiggle room despite their intent... the other person wanted Boo/Randall yet also confessed a liking for the previous pairing.... heh.).
I'm also doing a Planet 51 (even though its not Disney, I decided I'd do it anyway). Slash so I doubt anyone would be interested- but I discovered Lem was 17 not 15, so that means I'm a little easier about the idea. It's just really short one shots they want in any case, or that's the general guide.
Also have two drabbles to do for another meme chain- I requested a Zukaang one so I had to post it and immediately got two requests- but since I FAIL at drabbles I'm just going to make them oneshots... One is kataang, the canon ship of Avatar which I DO like as well as the other being Ursaang (Zuko's mother and Aang basically), which I must admit slightly intrigues me even though it's so bizarre. Obviously though Aang will be older and it will be set in the future for obvious reasons...) Still having a twenty year old man with a thirty-nine year old woman? Eh, why not?
Sure there are complications with the idea not least that Ursa is a murderer who killed her father-in-law in order to protect her son Zuko from a precieved threat. And then got banished I believe or was forced to leave by Ozai (it's kind of vague really) but Zuko thought she was DEAD before he stood up to his dad.
But hey, I do have some intriguing ideas about how she might contrast her horrible husband who tricked her into doing it and Aang who being a better person, does not need to degarde and demean people in order to throw his weight around unlike Ozai did. Aang carries power better. By the end of the show he's matured enough even at 13 to handle it so far (Ozai burned his son's FACE off just because he 'showed disrespect and weakness'... disrespect mind you which came from Zuko not caring for the idea of them sending inexperienced troops to the slaughter just as a distraction. Weakness when he refused to fight his father. At Aang's age. Thirteen. Messed up. I don't really get the idea of them getting back together after the show much. Plus I don't get the idea of Ursa being a weak willed woman though. Please, she's basically something which represents the extreme lengths that parents will go for their kids... even in dark ways, sure she was all soft with Zuko her som... but that's ZUKO. Plus she is not the perfect mother- definitly made mistakes with Azula for instance.)
Plus despite it all: I have a slight crush on Ursa and find her intriguing. Older Aang is also hot. Yeah I said it.
