Apart from Monsters Inc what other fandoms (if any) are you currently involved with and why? Is it big/small etc.? What was your first ever fandom?
My first ever fandom was the Ninja Turtles myself, it was my first fanfiction (you can still see it, where my grammar and spelling is EVEN WORSE.) The fandom is HUGE. And while I no longer contribute- I occasionally will drop into read it.
Currently- as you probably know, my other fandom at the moment is Avatar: the last airbender. While I primarily write about Aang and Zuko's friendship (they are the main protaganist and one who used to be the main antagonist for most of the show), I am generally an Aang fan all round- I love that overly chirpy naive little kid and his ablity to see good in everyone and the fact he saved Zuko even when they were enemies and Zuko never showed him much of a good side at ALL. It was the hints that Aang and Zuko, while starting as enemies were destined to be friends which was what grabbed me completely and utterly. In a world which probably in the beginning would take one look at these pair and states they MUST hate each other, that Aang must be 'good' and Zuko must be 'evil' destiny says a resounding 'screw you!' to that idea and they DO become friends.
The fandom can be venemous occasionally (and in the past to my regret, I've thrown my own venom around), usually in the case of 'shipping'. Thankfully I am way over that stage now.
Granted, this fandom is currently helping get rid of some of my 'silly energy' you know as well as keep writing skills up when I feel picky over M.I. writing- the part which wants to create incredibly random humour. I sometimes get build up, and writing Aang and Zuko interactions helps to air me out when I'm not writing silly humourous (?) Randall and Boo stuff currently. Heh.
So what other fandoms do you belong to?
I believe PBL- you've written for Fosters's Home for Imaginary Friends and drawn it too. Not to mention the Incredibles fanart- but what grabbed you particulary to that fandom? Do you intend to take up writing again? (I hope you do.) Any things you dislike about that fandom?
Mistica- you like the Sonic franchise right? Ever written fanfiction? I know you have fanart- but I'm curious. Plus what grabbed you to that fandom? As well as the same questions I gave PBL.
Also I am curious as to other fandoms people belong to- what contributions they have made to it, and why it grabbed them on some level. Not just TV shows- but books etc. too.
What would you CHANGE about a fandom?
As mentioned, I would change shipping attitudes in the fandom (as well as score a red line some of my own old remarks). It's so bad we call it 'ship wank' not to mention we sometimes call the Avatar fandom the 'fandumb' because of it and rightly so, but overall there is still some great things to be had in this fandom (and granted a lot of weird stuff too.)
Also have you ever made mistakes you've come to regret in another fandom (like myself and my own occasional 'ship wank' moments?)
As I said- incredibly curious and nosy about this.

I'm not really as big a fan of other games and films as I am of Randall, but I'll list them, anyway: Terminator (only the first two, though) Halo Ratchet and Clank games (even wrote some private fanfictions when I was younger. Not gonna share them, though; too awful. ) I also used to be a fan of Invader Zim, and, alas, that's when I first learned about slash. I remember being hooked on one slash pairing (which I am NOT going to delve into for RB's sake), and, in retrospect, I guess I should have realized sooner that most other fans of the pairing were yaoi and mpreg fanatics. Needless to say, what I would change about many fandoms is to have less of those kinds of people.

*taps lips* Well lets see... I am a fan of "Tales of" series of games. Combat-wise they're ahead in some aspects since you don't have to "wait" for the action, and the amount they put in for the characters is good...
Uhh...Spyro of course ^0^ Though one of the reasons is because there are so few games where you actually PLAY as the dragon instead of being the one driving a sword through one...
Well difficult actually...considering the differrances if any between "fandom" and "what you like" *laughs*

Sg: Oh good lord yes- sometimes people like that BAFFLE me.
I DO ship a slash pairing myself or two- primarily Zukaang (as stated, I adore their friendship so much, and the fact the world can only be saved from their friendship... yeah.)- I don't really get mPreg (unless it's PURELY for parody). And I don't get the idea of people shipping slash simply because it's 'hot'. I don't ship it BECASUE it's slash, I'd ship it if either of them were girls or both of them were girls too (which actually would be closer to my own interests in both cases in reality).
I mean, I guess it's their thing really. But I don't get the idea of simply shipping a ship because it's simply of a certain orientation.
Granted, in IZ I did write a fic which was meant to poke A LOT of fun at a very popular slash pairing. In a bizarre twist, I managed to unite both lovers and haters of the pairing and people told me it was probably the closest we'd ever get to the pairing on the show. Weird...
I never finished it. IZ was too random for me to write for all in all.
RB: I more see fandom ranging from the idea of you getting involved in discussions of it on the web with other fans to fullblown fanfic/fanart- and then you're kind of part of the fandom in either case. But yeah, it's not a clear distinction.

With "FHFIF", the same thing grabbed me that grabs me with most of Pixar's movies- strong, character-driven stories and characters that you can relate to, even if they involve Imaginary Friends. When you watch those characters, you KNOW people like that. There is the right blend of humor, suspense, and "heart". When there is a threat to the characters, it comes across as a REAL threat, not a cartoon threat; those characters can be hurt or killed, just like the ones in Pixar's movies. The characters in FHFIF aren't perfect, nor are they "locked in" to behaving a certain way, but instead, they develop or "evolve", emotionally, over time and have different facets to their personalities, just as real people do. Wilt, who is my favorite, immediately caught my attention for several reasons. He has a native SC Low Country "Geechee" accent, for one thing, and indeed, in Good Wilt Hunting, observant people "in-the-know" can catch glimpses of family Charleston landmarks once he returns to his home turf, the mean street "ghetto" of Bay Street, where I once found myself hopelessly lost en route to a classic car show and had to get directions(good ones, too)from a couple of gang members! Wilt's sweet, helpful, gentlemanly disposition is like a relic of by-gone Southern culture, but at the same time, his scars, both physical and emotional, seemed to hint at something darker in his past. Like Randall, there was this air of mystery about his past that made him very intriguing. As the Fourth Season led up to that movie, Wilt's behavior became more agitated and erratic, or as a poster on the Cartoon Network forum described him, "bi-polar", and it became clear that he was hiding a very painfully guilty secret, which often manifested itself in that chronic apologizing and phobia of "rocking the boat". AFTER the movie, once Wilt's past and the issues it caused were resolved, we started to see a different side to Wilt, a more tough, "take-no-$%!#" side, even a bit of a nasty, sneaky get-even side and a rather twisted sense of humor that actually made fun of his own handicaps and ethnic background, as Wilt became less and less obsessed with upsetting others or disappointing others. Periodically, throughout the series, Wilt would give us glimpses in this "Alpha Dog" personality, like when he shocked fans by back-handing Bloo upside his head in "Eddie Monster", and when he demanded to be given that coveted basketball-themed room in "Room With a Feud", an episode which also established Wilt as every bit Randall's equal when it comes to competiveness and being a show-off. That sort of in-depth character development is not something you expect from a "kiddie" cartoon, especially in a 30-minute television format.

*shrugs* Sure, I'm into tons of other fandoms basically, Invader Zim, TNBC, Naruto, Sonic, and that's just naming a few really. I may talk about some more than others but that makes me just more part of a fandom I guess. What draws me to any fandom could be a number of things, it could be a certain character, the fandom itself, just depends on what I like really. What drew me to the Sonic fandom was SA2B, it was actually the first Sonic game I had ever played since I grew up as the typical nintendo gamer. I liked the game, the story line of it, and the characters as well. If I could change anything about the fandom or any fandom I'm in, it would be all the porn of it that flies around the net. I have nothing against people who like yaoi or yuri pairings, I could care less if that's what they like but when there are groups on the net who draw and distribute this stuff obviously for the ones who need that kind of satisfaction, that takes it into a whole other department because most of those people really aren't fans at least they aren't to me when they work in the porn industry.

Oh, a few very interesting fandoms here and there! As for me, I'm much of a variety myself and although films and television programs may be the main object of my fandoms, it doesn't stop there! Dinosaurs (ha, wasn't too hard to guess that one I suppose ;D), Pirates Of The Caribbean, A Nightmare On Elm Street (age has no boundaries, and heck, I'm definitely not the described kid who is likely to go round the bend when shown mature content. But heck, this film has always had that special place in slasher movies, and is probably one of the most famous in classic slasher.), Nightmare Before Christmas, Michael Jackson (Seem to have been more dedicated after his death ), Motown, SCUBA Diving and more recently, the comedian duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. I went to see a play entitled Morecambe, that is the celebration of Eric's life (it's been 25 years since his passing now ) and I must say the actor, Bob Golding was a real gem for his performance! Heck, there is plenty of other things that I could mention but, those are a few that come to mind at this point in time .

My main fandom is from Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, which are two of my most favorite films of all time.
I love them because they're just beautiful with the classical music and the swift animation: both things I feel passionate for.
I do feel a love for the rest of Disney animated films(except for Bolt), but I always had a certain spot in my heart for Fantasia... ;D

Quite a few fandoms there!
Another fandom I am sort of in (but only in discussion, and in an Avatar:TLA board at that), is Doctor who. They've just shown the new episode with the 11th doctor. I still have to get a feel for this new guy, but hey not bad so far!
Doctor who also has Torchwood for older audiences and Sarah Jane for the kiddies.
Has anyone seen 'Children of Earth' in the Torchwood series, a five part special (5 hours long basically then)- I swear it's almost like they took some brief elements of Monsters Inc and made it into a gut wrenching horror of some kind.
(SPOILERS:
The main protaganist KIDNAPPED human children in the 60s to be sold on a space drug market and he hated himself for it as well as what he had to do in the present day of the story (at first they THOUGHT it might have been for 'energy' which is why I thought of M.I. at first but it turned out it was for an energy BUZZ).. And the ending with his grandson oh god... and also that politition who killed himself and his family when he discovered his daughters were going to be given up. And The british government were so dark and disgraceful in their attitudes most of the time when they decided on which 10% of the children to 'give up'. And the ending and then his boyfriend... WATCH IT.)
Torchwood didn't always end with the protaganists winning or smelling out roses either. I didn't like the first episode (too much of the three letter word beginning with s and ending in x that it got tiresome and made my eyes roll to the back of my head, but the show got much better in time.)

Wow. That's quite...disturbing, mentalguru.

It WAS. But also pretty amazing even if it was disturbing.
I think a point of it was that the protaganist had that dirty past- the children had been given up in order to protect the earth (in the 60s). Other M.I. similarities were the children screaming (basically the aliens used mind control on human children. At first they all froze in position. Then the next day at the exact same time of day they screamed, then they referred a message to the world. They also (ALL the children in the world), pointed towards England because that was where it all first started- where the protaganist had given up the children first in the 60s. My memory is hazy but I think the aliens who threatened the world simply picked England at random and threatened them or something like that. (And they took Children people would never miss... from an orphanage about a dozen kids or maybe 20, I can't remember, but the aliens got 'addicted'- and then over 40 years later they asked for 10% of the worlds children, the british government decided to choose their 10% based on economic background and intelligence- as in choose the ones you'd get rid of and would probably be a 'burden' on society when they grew older, those who'd be on the dole etc... disturbing as all hell as you can probably imagine. o_0)
VERY VERY disturbing. And very depressing. I mean they ended up... winning technically- they beat the ones who wanted the 'drugs' before the children were given up but the cost was high and the protaganist was pretty much completely broken. He couldn't stand what had happened.
Torchwood did have some disturbing things in general. Like faeries (though they made them 'aliens' people mistook as faeries.)
Faeries which were more like their traditional counterparts (stealing children etc) then DISNEY'S version at that.
