Just so everyone knows, under RandallBoggs' suggestions, I sent a letter to Steve today informing him of the recent developments regarding Randall as well as the Randall fandom. My message is as follows:
Dear Mr. Buscemi,
Greetings. I am a huge fan of a character you did the voice of: Randall Boggs from "Monsters, Inc.", and I also feel that he was not really a villain as much as he was a mere character under intense pressure. Your portrayal of him was incredible, and I really admire how much dedication you gave to making his voice perfect.
Now, you're probably wondering: why am I contacting you about this so late in the game? You may or may not know about this, considering Pixar's sworn secrecy to upcoming movies, but there is evidence to suggest that Pixar is developing a sequel to "Monsters, Inc.". Though much of it for people like me is twisted in rumors, there is ONE actual fact that confirms this: Disney has purchased a domain name for the sequel. Why I am contacting you about this is because Pixar has a tendency, proven by the upcoming Toy Story 3, to recast the voices of characters instead of replacing the actors, so you probably will be called on again.
Some other background is also necessary, however, in terms of how I and many others fear the sequel will go. I understand that you were portraying Randall as best as you could from your own interpretation. Evidently, Disney and Pixar have taken your portrayal of him and turned him into a whipping boy via a Boom! Comics development that features Randall as acting nothing short of a psychopath, even to the point that he acts nothing like he did in the original movie. Other inaccuracies are abound in these comics, though, so I'm not excessively worried about those.
However, there is also an amusement park ride in Tokyo: "Ride and Go Seek". Developed by Disney Imagineers, this ride features Randall running around with a butterfly net like an idiot, which he clearly was not in the original movie, and, by the end of the ride, meets a gruesome death via a trash compactor. I fear that such developments are really proof of how Pixar views their work, even at the expense of you and his fans.
His fans, you ask? I am far from the only one who likes Randall. There are many sites that involve reference to him from members, such as FanFiction.net, deviantArt, and even some videos on YouTube. There is even a still-active message board dedicated to this character, in which most of the members do not believe that he is evil, either.
Now, how does this connect with the sequel? You have just read a brief summary about the Randall Boggs fandom and their concerns over the sequel to "Monsters, Inc.". I acknowledge that you are not a writer. However, Pixar's tendencies to get actors to reprise their roles, directly proven by the Toy Story sequels, leads me to believe you will be rehired there for Randall's voice. Keeping that in mind, we have started a campaign in order to get us Randall fans heard, and, unfortunately, they seem to be ignoring their own rule of listening to fans. You, however, have a direct relation with the movie, and you have similar feelings about Randall as we do, and I was hoping you could be our contact to Pixar; we will help you not get forced into taking Randall the wrong direction. Would you be willing to help us out when the time comes?
Thank you for your consideration,
Hope this is fine with everybody else. Nonetheless, I'm still hoping to attend the charity tour of Pixar as well; this is just a back-up plan.
