It seems to me that reptilian creatures get the short end of the stick in almost every culture.
-People who are sleazy are generally referred to as "snakes" or "snakey".
-In Egyptian mythology, the sun god AmunRa (sp?) would fight the sun eating serpent of the underworld so that the sun could rise every morning.
-Frogs and Toads are considered the familiars of wicked witches.
-Dragons are the main antagonists in most fairy-tales (St. George and the Dragon not excluded)
I could go on forever. The point is reptiles seem to be the universal villains in the human world... what if some of that prejudice seeped into Monster World?

That's pretty much been my point since I first saw the movie. Randall was predestined to be labeled a "bad guy" from the moment of his conception due to his species/type/race. You an pretty much guarantee that the same anti-reptilian bias that permeates so many human cultures is part of the Monster World's cultures, too. Mike calls Randall a "creep", right at the beginning, even though Randall has done nothing up to that point except a harmless practical joke. Why is it that Mike thinks Randall is "creepy"? My guess is that it is purely due to his appearance, and nothing else.

Perhaps it's because of his aggressive nature.
Sulley: May the best monster win
Randall: I plan to
But this is probably due to the fact that he might feel that if he isn't the best at what he does, he not worth anything. Even though he's placed at second, it is what it is: second place, and that can instill a lot of bitterness in a person.Perhaps he feels that he works so much harder than Sulley and Wazowski, and isn't getting his due reward.

Ehh ... Randall seems the type that if he's poked at he will retaliate.
Kinda like me. But the people who poke me are friends ... not enemies ....... well, okay, 'poked' theoretically speaking, like someone calling me Pepper Ann or something ... yes, if teased enough I will get violent. But I usually ignore it.
Randall seems to HAVE to think of a comeback on the spot, or he'll fear of showing a weakness or something. I can understand that. I'm always edgy with new people- especially those who are quite popular ... I don't know whether to be nice or be wary ... it's tough =P

Yeah, I know what you mean. Luckily, Randall's very witty and doesn't seem to have much trouble with comebacks, whilst Wazowski, on the other hand...

I have a very strong feeling that Randall's response to Sulley, right before the work session started, had more to do with the way Sulley and Mike(especially Mike)had treated him in the locker room earlier than morning than anything else. Randall instigated what I see as a harmless and funny practical joke, a way of relieving stress on the job, and Mike used that as an opportunity to cut Randall down and humiliate him, rather than going along with the joke. Randall's day was therefore, already shot to pieces, and his stress level unrelieved, so he was naturally a bit "snarky" with Sulley. Sulley had just spoken to him a few minutes earlier as though he were an eight-year-old child, and then expects him to shake hands and act like an adult?

If only somehow Sulley could see how stupidly he acted then. And Mike- how can he go around insulting his best friend and not realising how horrible he's being? Oh, I know- perhaps because Sulley didn't TELL HIM how stupid he was being? Sulley's so patronising; he sits there and watches Mike insulting Randall, and the second Randall replies with something not even half as bad as what Mike says, Sulley suddenly comes to the rescue, warning Randall!

And meanwhile Mike goes around calling Sulley things like "big jerk" and making fun of his weight/size, ALL the time, and Sulley just puts up with it. That's what makes it so bad when people rag on how Randall treats Fungus, how "mean" he was to threaten to put him through the shredder and stuff, but ignore how badly MIKE treats his best friend and protector!

And while some people might justify it by saying that Mike never really meant what he said in regards to Sulley (which is just further demonstrative of his immaturity and inability to communicate civilly on a consistent basis -- only being able to pull it off when it REALLY matters, apparently), it still doesn't prove how Randall treated Fungus any worse. If people are stressed out, angry, or even annoyed enough, it's not uncommon for them to think or say, "I'm gonna KILL so-and-so!" but then never actually go through with it. They ultimately didn't mean what they said, so how does that make Randall any different, especially considering his circumstances? ~Light Rises

People.... REMEMBER RANDALL WAS TOP SCARER.
How many times do I have to explain?
One part about what Randall said was that. He KNEW he was better than Sullivan at scareing and KNEW Sullivan couldn't beat him.
Reptiles had always been treated that way ever since the mistake they made so ver............
