Yeah! I've always liked persuasive essays. Too bad I never got to write one about a movie... I'm sure it's great; maybe if your teacher is someone who views Randall as a villain or somethin', it'll change his/her mind. ;D

Actually....she didn't understand at all...pfft...like she knows anything.... I got As on all the BCRs and ECRs ever done in that class....
Anyway here. This is the first PART of the ECR Tell me what you guys think. I was hoping to include every thing...
Persuasive Essay Randall’s Trial Intro: Many people in any industry involving the use of “imagination” and “entertainment”, there are always two shades for the Characters, good & evil. In the world of movies, and stories in general, a high percentage of the population agree with this good & Evil. There’s always a flawless, or highly unflawed, Hero and a hated, evil, disgusting villain against him. The people cheer for the Hero and boo to the Villain, it’s just that way. But what happens when that’s not the case? What happens when a truly innocent soul is perceived as the antagonist? What happens when the TRUE Villain is over shadowed by a pawn that is perceived to BE that Villain. What happens when one’s appearance and actions are mistaken, when they are judged by such? Especially when the person doing these actions is shown as a hated person. But what if this person wasn’t evil? Nor good? What if he was just “real”. What if he was just “Lost”? Randall Boggs. It may seem like he’s just an ordinary character, then again, most people do. However, many but few have observed him as something else. Though the film he is “shown” in revolves more around kids for enjoyment, it also provides another message for those willing to “see between the lines” as it were. In the eyes of most people, Randall was the villain of the film, plain and simple. He deserved what he got and all his actions were based on hurting others and beating everyone done. However…that is not what I myself and others see. Randall has himself a deeper meaning. People overlook the simple facts that they hear and see…..but we do not stop there. We dig deeper and deeper till we are astonished. Randall was not a villain. He was “real”. What do I mean by “real”? Of course, this could mean several terms, many of which Randall does apply, but the main “real” I wanted to explain is simple, then again, hard. Randall is “real” in the sense that he’s like everyone else. There’s no DEEP evil or DEEP good in him. He’s just a regular person, ok, monster. But people think of him as something else, as something they can hate. Randall doesn’t live life like other characters. Celia, the receptionist at the company Monsters Inc. (Where Randall and everyone within the “film” works), has a to-be marriage with Mike. Mike has the upper hand in bragging to everyone that HE himself is responsible for making Sully, his best friend and so-called “hero” of the film, Top Scarer (an award given to the best Scarer, the main job at M.I. as well as Randall’s, in the company). The rest of the characters have good lives to live. Randall on the other hand is a minority. What do I mean by minority? Well. Thinking of our lives here. Randall is like the African American during the 30s. Within the company, there is NO other reptilian employee, other than Randall. This easily proposes more into minority status. Anyway, being a minority meant increased bills, meaning less food, more work, and perhaps harder was to get on with living. Randall had to go through the tough things to actually HAVE a life. Without difficulties, there IS no life. Sullivan and the other characters had good lives given to them on silver platters. For Randall…..it was a wooden board, or nothing at all….

Wow! You actually read this in front of your class? We had to write a persuasive essay recently, but I would never have written it about Randall if I knew I'd have to read it out in class- I'd be too embarrassed.

In front of the class!? Pfft....Yeah RIGHT! I didn't read it in front of the class. Thank god. Even Randall wouldn't do it.....not that he....could heh...
I can't help it if everything in this is based on facts. And I WAS being perssuasive...so it fit the assignment...
Next part. (Remember, and ECR has to have 3 over-around facts. "I" had FIVE. Yes. FIVE. And I still got a low grade because of my teachers opinion pfft....)
Now some of you may ask, why? Why do you wish to defend something that isn’t even real? It does not matter WHAT is real or not. Characters are just like people, Randall represents “real” people in “real” life. If you can understand, Randall shows that there ARE tough things in life, and that it’s not all easy…but you won’t learn that unless you understand from his point of view, that is if you even care to look. If you don’t, then you opinion has no meaning. For so long, people have looked at the “hero’s” part in a story….but why not the villain’s? Of course, Randall IS NO villain. The real villain is someone else. However, one thing remains constant within everyone. The first thing that anybody ever notices about a person is their appearance. And it seems that this is as affective for a monster as it is for any human. Look at Randall’s figure. Starting from back to front. His tail is slightly curved, though many prefer to call it a “whip-like” tail instead of just plain “tail”. Up his lower body are two sets of legs, showing his uniqueness to human world reptiles. Trailing up his body, you see two pairs of hands, able to use as feet. Randall’s mouth is full of sharp teeth, which anybody would assume he uses to hurt others. His eyes are compare to as shifty mainly because of how they look. Top it all off with scales and you got yourself your pawn as a villain. Mainly, reptiles are hated for their appearance. Their shinny scales are mistaken for slime. Reptiles are posted by many as disgusting, dangerous creatures. In religion and practical life, reptiles have always been looked upon as something to hate. Dragons have always been associated at one point or another with Hell. Snakes are often hated due to a mistranslation of the bible, where a word that was hard to translate was replaced by “serpent”, or rather “snake”. Funny how the translator hated snakes as well no doubt. Simply, since Randall’s associated with reptiles, having their characteristics, he is seen as something dangerous and mean. And since he’s posted as a reptilian “character” it is proposed by many that all his feelings are directly evil. Looking at the “so-called” hero of the story, James P. Sullivan, it’s hard to miss how people take him as the hero and Randall as the “villain”. Since people see enough of him already, I’ll be brief in physical description. Sullivan is mainly considered a “furry”, as he is covered in fur rather than normal skin or...scales. Children would mistake, and rightfully, Sullivan for something they could hug or love. That plush toy they play with in the day. That furry doll they carry around in the evening. That teddy bear they cuddle at night. Sullivan can be thought as all of those things. And simply because he’s shown so much and APPEARS to be doing rights instead of wrongs, he’s considered a hero. Appearance means allot, even though some say it’s not how you look that matters. It’s not the looks, it’s what’s on the inside. People tend to have forgotten about that. Maybe something in Randall’s life affected how he was. Life affects us as well as those around us. Lets start with the “hero’s” lifestyle. Seemingly to be a flawless life with little recoil in terms of difficulties, Sullivan has lived a life that many want and that many downgrade others as a result. In short, Sullivan always had things going for him. When in Kindergarten, Sullivan met with his to-be forever ‘friend”, Mike Wazowski. Of course, this friendship lasted for an amount ranging to eternity. Though his life, things went easy for Sullivan. He had a best friend, making more in school as time passed, two loving parents, what more can a guy want? How about a sort of power? When he entered higher levels of school, Sullivan began a rather bullish-type of monster. With his assortment of friends, his main target was minority. A minority that had achieved his way to better grade levels much on his own skill and hard work. In case you haven’t yet guessed, it was Randall. Since this is a hard-to-discuss topic, being the two seemingly of length in age, I will move on. In short, through those years, Sullivan treated Randall like any bully would. Of course he could be considered more of a jock. Heading on into training for a few years, Sullivan caught up with Randall in Monsters Inc. After training, Sullivan entered Monsters Inc. as a full fledged scarer. With little to no time at all, the head CEO, Henry Waternoose took favor on Sullivan. Supposedly, the Sullivan’s and Waternoose’s have had a relationship. Skipping the CEO for a moment, Sullivan made his way to taking Randall’s place as Top Scarer, which Randall achieved a few years before Sullivan entered training. All in all, Sullivan had everything going right for him. He had friends, family, a high ranking position, not to mention being friends with the CEO. His life is seemingly perfect. Randall on the other hand...

Comments?
Oh ECR? Extended Constructive Response.
It's....five paragraphs (Intro(thesis), 1st fact, 2nd fact, 3rd fact, conclusion).
I did five facts. Which is MORE work and I still got a lower score....

I hate it when teachers are unfair.

It's because it's the TEACHER's opinion. Whenever you do something like a BCR or something, it's NOT going to be based on that rubric they give you, but the teacher... No offense if you do use the rubric Pitbulllady...

I mean, my art teacher hates me and my friend (we have no idea why) and so he therefore tells us off for the tiniest things whilst the rest of the class are shouting swear words and throwing clay!
