Makes you wonder how he treated those he considered his LEAST valuable workers, doesn't it, considering how he treated Randall? Suffice it to say that if you were on Waternoose's s*** list, you were seriously screwed. pitbulllady

*taps list* Been wondering when you'd put more on....
Ahem. Wouldn't be so surprised if there was a "Black List" in Waternoose's office heh.

Page 6 of the Essential Guide. The most interesting thing about this is that Randall is listed as one of his 3 "most valuable workers", along with Eyeball and Furrug. Why the heck would Mike make his top list? He was just an assistant; an incompetent and disorganized one at that, who needed Roz constantly riding his a** about completing his paperwork. How does somebody like that get noticed by the CEO? I guess "most valuable" doesn't necessarily translate to "most liked". Randall was valuable to Monsters, Inc. and I'm sure his coworkers at least acknowledged that he was good at what he did.

...*rubs back of neck* I can't believe I'm saying this...but Wazowski was actually accounted as the best Scare Assistant in the company. A similiar honor to Top Scarer, but less desireable and with fewer benefits. Of course goes to show that even if he has THAT he'd still aim to get under Randall's skin. And apparently it seems everyone, aside from Randall, is willing to let the fact he doesn't do his paperwork slide. *shrugs* Not that unbelieveable since he can get away with murder.

And apparently it seems everyone, aside from Randall, is willing to let the fact he doesn't do his paperwork slide. *shrugs* Not that unbelieveable since he can get away with murder. I'm sure that Mike's "Most Valuable Worker" status has a lot to do with him not only being Sullivan's Scare Assistant, but also his friend. It DOES, though, make me wonder just how much Mike might have known of and been involved with a little "tweeking" of the numbers. He obviously didn't have a clue about the Scream Extractor, but it would not be surprising if he didn't know that something was just a bit off with regards to Sulley's numbers, but since that "degree of error" was in HIS team's favor, he just sorta let it slide. Mike is an expert at lying, that much we know, and there's really no difference between a lie and simply concealing the truth. THAT also explains his "enthusiasm" for attending the monster truck ralleys with Celia Mae: people of both genders will do this when they first really start seriously dating someone, that is, pretend to like the same things their date likes in order to really get closer to them. Heck, I'VE done it myself, and had it done to me, and I certainly don't put that past Mike. I used to let this guy drag me to all these Star Wars cons, even though I really wasn't into that at all, and another guy I dates used to pretend to like going to dog shows and field trials, but it soon became apparent that he didn't even like DOGS. Such is life. Waternoose's memo about Randall being one of his most valuable workers reminds me, in a very dark way, of a comment made a few years ago by one of my 5th-grade students, who, like 97% of the kids I've taught over the years, was Black. She made a comment to defend Randall, actually, against claims that he was "bad" and that he'd planned this whole kidnap-little-children thing himself, by saying, "he ain't had no choice! He won't nuthin' but that ole' Crab-Man's n***a, so he had to do what the Man told him!" Even a 5th-grader, who was in a Special Needs class, picked up on the fact that Waternoose was using Randall and Randall really couldn't do anything about it; same kid also picked up on the fact that Randall was the only one of his kind in the entire movie, and probably WAS subject to racism as a result. pitbulllady

Such is life. pitbulllady Indeed. Relationships are give and take, and if your special someone is into something you're not, that'll come out in due time, and it happens. If Mike wasn't excited about the monster truck rally, he was at the very least just excited to spend time with Celia, so we can at least agree that his enthusiasm during the locker room scene was genuine. Besides, wouldn't it be boring to just stick to what you know and never explore outside of your own hobbies? Assuming that Mike isn't into the whole monster truck thing, he's making an effort to make sure his girlfriend has a good time, which I'm sure she probably won't have if Mike does indeed look like he's practically being "dragged" into it. THAT is even worse! I'd say we're looking too much into something so trivial, but I feel I have to at least give Mike some credit for going through the trouble. But for all we know, Mike could have had the whole date planned out according to his idea of fun, which included that monster truck rally. I'm turning this into a "Is Mike BF material?" thread. XD tmazanec1: Since you're already posting "essentials" about every character, could you post the one for Randall if they included his info? Thanks!

Info for Randall does not go beyond what we see in the movie, with a shading of "slimy", "cunning", "shifty eyed", etc.

Guess not too many folks at Disney Publishing were star pupils in Science back in elementary school, and even fewer went on to take advanced Biology in high school or college! I recall my "Essential Guide" with an illustration of Randall's physical features, with the lable, "Fearsome Fronds", lol. HOW exactly are those three protuberances on his head "fearsome"? pitbulllady

Also had "shifty eyes". "walks on four legs, slithers on eight"."chameleon scales""whiplike tail". And it is "frightening", not "fearsome".

Waternoose's memo ------------------------------ Wazowski MAY HAVE noticed the tweeking...but he certainly had no intention of doing anything about it or suspecting anybody. NOT...all guys do that Pitbulllady ^_^; *chuckles* Sometimes kids can be so mean, but also they can be so wise. The only problem is that most people don't take them seriously. =============== Nobody take into account what I said about the rally? 0_- Of course Wazowski also has the high tendancy for NOT handling things himself. Afterall, the only reason he got a reservation at HarryHausens was because Sullivan, the Top Scarer, made the reservation for him.
*shakes head* Unfortunately you won't find much positive feedback on Randall. Mostly just sly-insulting tones. =========== Hm hm, actually Randall found that quite hilarious, stating for some of those descriptions, "I take it as a compliment...how do you think KIDS feel when I step into their room...". Of course I replied to that "so does that mean this book was WRITTEN by KIDS?". He just grinned hehehe ^_^

Then I have a question: where did some of the info from the website "Randall Fans United" come from? Such as Randall eating a kid's homework, his height, weight, etc. He wouldn't have been able to get those reservations even if he wanted to. He seems to have no status outside of the factory, unlike Sulley, who has gained his reputation as a near celebrity throughout Monstropolis. Mike is really just popular and well-liked by proxy. I really was hoping to find something different about him that didn't include the worn-out google search results of "evil chameleon monster."

I really was hoping to find something different about him that didn't include the worn-out google search results of "evil chameleon monster." Randall's "stats" listed on the RFU site came from the back of one of the children's activity/coloring books that was published along with the movie, which gave some facts about him, including that he once ate a kid's homework, how fast he could change color, and his weight and length and height standing on all-fours on this rear pair of legs. The length and heights seem about right, although I still tend to think that the weight might be exaggerated a bit, at least based on what I saw in the movie. Randall was actually thin, and you can see his backbone sticking up in several seens, as well as his pelvic bones(both sets), which indicates he's underweight. I have to doubt that he actually weighed nearly 300 pounds, at least at that time. I've seen Komodo Dragons in zoos that weighed around 300 pounds, but those suckers were FAT, with big pot bellies, and Randall had absolutely no body fat to speak of. Here's a somewhat different, and VERY interesting, take on Randall, from the Dec. 2001 newsletter, "Acting For Animators", written by someone named Ed Hooks(don't know who he is, sorry, Ed), in which he compares Sulley's strengths as a character to Randall's. This is the only point in the article in which Randall is mentioned: "Sulley is a green and purple furry Jackie Gleason of a monster, a likable working class kind of guy who takes pride in being the Numero Uno scream collector. It would have been nice if he, like his sidekick Mike, had a romantic aspect. I don't know why the writers opted to make him asexual, but it appears to be a conceptual choice. Sulley is more like a Burt or Ernie Sesame Street character than any of the others in this film. By contrast, his nemesis, Randall Boggs, exudes an oily, if not overt, sexuality, and I think this makes him a slightly stronger character. You can imagine Randall hitting on babes in a bar, but Sulley presumably just goes home at the end of the day and takes a warm bath."Like I said, "interesting", and very different from the usual "sarcastic chameleon monster", "slimy", "evil", "nasty", "mean", and all the other lables that the shallow-minded have afflicted Randall with! pitbulllady

Well Randall himself of course ^0^ *thinks* Then again unsure when it started up since it improved once over the course when I became webmaster ^_^
Which is why Top Scarer is a saught after position. There ARE many benefits to it. Like it or not, Scarers are looked up to, and the best are considered like moviestars. Magazines, commercial endorsements...heck, even Randall was subjected to it when he was Top Scarer. I recall one of his endorsements was for some candy bar thing. Have you come across "centipeid" yet? -_- --------------------------------- Randall does weigh more than he looks ^0^ Nearly hurt my own ribs when he fell on me when he lost footing on the ceiling -_- Note that guy said that, and not a woman for the exudes part ^0^ Say Pitbulllady...do you remember that article with Steve Buscemi stating something similiar along the lines of him not minding to have Randall as a kid?

Actually, I think he said that he wouldn't mind letting his own kid hang out with Randall, something to that effect, given that Randall was already an adult. Steve probably has more insight into Randall's character and personality than anyone who has written any of the movie reviews, though. He's on record as stating that he doesn't see Randall as a "villain" or "bad guy", but as someone who is more competitive and more insecure than the others, and as someone who is "out to win". He has made comments, regarding watching some of the clips of the movie after his voice had been added, of having the eerie impression that he was actually watching himself on that screen, which seems to indicate he actually feels very close to this character. I can't recall him ever having said that about any other character he's played, not even those in which it literally WAS him on the screen. pitbulllady
