Alrighty! Next on the list....the bird trio will give us a little scare ^0^ To be honest I wrote this all up the past few hours since I wanted to save one story for tomorrow ^_^ So not my best work, but I think can get a few laughs out of it, especially the weird dang ending ^0^
So enjoy ^_^
Feathers and the Nevermore
"I'm am NOT spending my Halloween at the book store..."
"We're not spending the day THERE...". Iago nearly choked on another comment, so he settled to cough up that comment as he flew. Zazu just rolled his eyes. "Besides...we're going there for Halloween ideas..."
"And why is SHORTY with us?" Iago complained, looking past the hornbill at the small crow.
"Oh shuddup fatty...I got my own stuff to look at" Cassis quickly replied.
"EXCUSE ME!?"
"Why ARE you coming anyway? We didn't drag you..." Cassis muttered.
Iago narrowed his eyes at Cassis, then Zazu. "Because HE has the house key..."
*
The feathered trio landed in front of the large single bookstore, which could just as easily be stated as a town library. Constructed of concrete and stone with a slight greek design, it held a gallery of books from history to comics. Iago tugged at the door for a bit, Zazu watching with his "your an idiot" glance, and Cassis was amused. After a few minutes, Zazu silently came up beside him, Iago watching with uncertainty. Shaking his head at the dulled parrot, Zazu swung out some card from his wing, swiping it against a card reader to the side, the door swinging open, Iago still stuck to it. Zazu shook his head again, Cassis following, pointing at Iago's predicament.
*
Zazu and Cassis were already feet away when Iago came in. The store was lit with auxiliary lights, the official books stacked together on shelves side by side. There was even a second floor, only showing just how many books there were. Zazu flew up and perched on a round counter in the middle of the area.
"Janice? Oh Janice!" he said, then peaking over the table at the empty seat. "Hmm...weird...she usually works late..."
"And WHY did we come late?" Iago groaned.
Zazu rolled his eyes. "It's allot easier coming at the night shift...hardly anybody comes here thn..." he said, flying past a swirling staircase, Casiss followed, his small wings a little less stronger than the hornbills.
"SLOW DOWN..." he yelled. Zazu finally perched on top of a bookcase, opposite the one he was looking at, a label on the side reading "Horror". Cassis landed in front of it. "What this?" he said, looking at the gallery of books.
"The horror section...if we need ideas for themes this year...we'll find'em here" he said, straightening.
"Huh...." Cassis said, picking out a book by Stephan King. "And...what idea are we looking for again?"
"Themes for Halloween like I said...Sean, Randall, Vee...and the kids are out at the mall doing the same..." Zazu said, looking up. He paused, looking around. "WHERE is Iago?"
*
Iago instinctibly got the feeling someone wass calling him, but refrained from it, looking up at the label atop a door he had found in the back of the building. "O...C...ult? Ocult?" he muttered. "Huh...". He looked down from it, seeing his shadow slightly large than it should be. He quickly whipped around, face to face with a not-too-amused Zazu.
"If your looking for a book on common sense...it's on the second floor..." Zazu stated, like he was talking to a child. He grabbed Iago's wing and started tugging him to the Horror section, Iago drastically surprised Zazu could do that.
Cassis watched the sight, but didn't follow, looking up at the door. "Hmm....just what I was looking for..." he chuckled, heading inside.
*
"Wolfman....frankenstein...boring..." Iago mumbled, tossing the books in the pile. Zazu was taking his time dodging the flying books. But finally he had enough, pushing Iago to the side.
"Your a real reasearcher you know that..." he muttered.
"Guys guys!". The two full fledged birds turned their attention left, Cassis running over with a black leather book in his wings over his head, coming over and holding it up. "I found what I was looking for" he said, almost singing it.
"What are you a canary?" Iago muttered.
Zazu ignored him. "What is that?"
Cassis blinked. "Oh...uhh...just a creepy story..." he started, looking down. "With something I can use..." he whisper. Then he felt a weight lift from him, and he realized Zazu had lifted his book. "Hey!"
Zazu ignored him too, studying the book. It had a black torn leather front and back, and old fashioned paper pages. "It's old....hmm...some of it is harder to read..."
Iago rolled his eyes. "Oh please...". He plucked it from Zazu, held it up, and cleared his throat. "Ahem..."In these pages hide a terrible power...so never read from it unless your disires are of malice"..." he started, bored. Zazu noticed a bookmark between two pages.
"Read that..." he said.
Iago flipped the pages and read. "..."Speak these words to rise a great evil...and it will rampantly seek to feed..."....". As he read, Cassis's eyes grew wider and wider. Zazu noticed, and then started to piece anything together. When he did....he started shaking his head.
"No...you...didn't..."
Before Casiss could reply, the ground split beneath them, and a decomposed hand shot upward defyantly, accompained by a greenish dull glow around it. Needless to say.....
"AAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!" All three yelled, grouped together. Cassis was scared out of wits, Zazu was trying to edge closer to the shelves....and Iago...well...noticed something else.
"OOh...they make cheap foundations for these places don't they?" he noted. Casiss and Zazu both gave him the "ARE YOU SERIOUS!?" look.
"Uhhhhoohhh..." moaned SOMETHING below the hand. Instantly, it started flailing around. It nearly reached for on of Zazu's talons, that is before he shot upward, unavoididly dropping Iago, Cassis, and the book. Iago was witted enough to start flying himself, though Cassis landed with a thud along with the book.
"YOU READ THE BOOK DIDN'T YOU!?" Zazu yelled panic-like to Cassis.
"DON'T BLAME ME!!!" Cassis quickly replied, but lunged forward when ANOTHER hand shot out from the floor. "RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!" he yelled, grabbing the book and running.
"I prefer...FLY FLY FLY!!!!" Iago yelled, the hands reaching out for them. All three flew around the case to the other side, hands popping up behind them.
"SECOND FLOOR!!" Zazu yelled, and they all aimed for the swirl staircase. Zazu shot up it without delay, though Iago bumped his head once, and Cassis was hopping up each floor like mad....
*
All three were huddled together in the Drama section upstairs, how quaint. Iago was watching from over the rim, where the floor was breaking open more, and fully body skeletons with parts started up. Meanwhile, Zazu was shaking Cassis like mad.
"I ALWAYS SAY! NEVER READ FROM AN OCCULT BOOK ABOUT DEAD PEOPLE!!!" he yelled. Cassis was strangely calm.
"Uhh yeah...". Zazu shook his head, dropping Cassis on his tailfeathers. "Ow...HEY! They can't get us tucan...hello...WINGS". Zazu chuckled, but it wasn't for happiness.
"Oh YEAH...and wait for someone to open the doors and let a horde of zombie skeletons loose on the town...and THEN you'll be in more trouble".
Cassis blinked. "O...K...point taken..." he said, flipping open the book. "There's gotta be some reverse thingy in here...
"BETTER BE..." Zazu shouted.
"Uhh...guys..." Iago started.
"Quiet..." Cassis murmured, looking over the pages.
"But...I think you should know..."
"Not NOW..." Zazu nearly yelled. Just as he said that, a skeleton hand emerged from the shelf in front of them, pushing books out of the way, three others following.
"They're climbing the stairs..." Iago said.
"You think..." Cassis said, eyes wide. Just then, a crackling sound was heard, and a skeleton came around the corner, what it was a skeleton of, they didn't care. But it had six arms and a long spine. It dragged it's way toward them, a large gapping mouth with freshly sharp teeth opening and closing.
"Ok...new plan....RUN!!!" Iago yelled, till Zazu grabbed his tail feathers, pulling him back.
"CASSIS...not to rush....but..." Zazu studdered.
Cassis was against the rail, reading the book. "UH....it's in some language...."
"YOU READ IT BEFORE?"
"Alright...uhh...." he started, the spine thing geetting closer. "...Ok uhh...."Higga...smigga...yagga yagga..."
"WHAT are you reading?" Zazu had to say.
"It's the reverse..."
".......Fine whatever..."
"As I was saying...". The thing was closer, nearly on them. " "Higga Smigga Yagga Yagga Dugga Foo!". The spine thing paused, looking the three over. It opened it's mouth....and....
"You guys the librarians?"
All three of them paused, dumbstruck. When you had a skeleton thing aiming to eat your flesh, you don't geniuely think they could speak...
"E...xcuse me?" Cassis started, still dumbstruck.
The spine thing arched up. "Well it's our purchasing time...being in the ground is a little of a bore, so we rent books...."
All three blinked.
*
Having started the whole thing, Cassis took up Janice's positions with checking out the various book. Zazu and Iago stood near the entrance, watching the spectical of ghouls on the lower and top floors looking for books and comparing to each other, all the while glowing green erieely. It was quite the sight....
"Ahh...The Raven...GOOOD choice..." Cassis remarked, stamping approval and handing it back to some flamingo skeleton. "NEXT!"
Back at the entrace, Zazu couldn't help but comment...
"This....is....just...." Zazu started, shaking his head. He looked over at Iago. "This is not normal..."
Iago shrugged. "Ahh I've seen weirder..."
"WHAT?"
"Ahh my brother Orthello's been to weird places..."
"What? As weird as THIS?" Zazu said, pointing at the sight.
"Uh huh..."
"WHERE?"
"Silent Hill..."
"Oooohh..."
The two looked back as each ghost got their fill of books and, quite literally, taking them to the grave. Needless to say, once the three got outside, they welcomed the fresh air. The whole short ordeal was left up to just plain confusion. But it was interesting. Iago noted some of the more recent skeleton, trying to guess what they were. Even Zazu got calm enough to get into some intelligent conversation. But through it all, it was on weird night at the book store....
So enjoy ^_^
