I have this weird feeling where I can compare Randall to Jack Skellington. Both are misunderstood and well, want a new hobby and understanding. Like Jack has a joy for Christmas, I'd say Randall kind of like's engineering and things...

I'm not sure if the New Hobby would apply, but I do think that the inventive side of Jack Skellington, in more ways than on, and apptitude for scareing, is a good comparison. I even attempted a crossover with that ^_^ Recently I've been comparing Randall to Spike from Angel, as their personalities are nearly on par ^0^

Randall STILL reminds me a lot of Wilt, from "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends". This is even more true, now, having seen the Season Six episodes that have aired so far in the US. Wilt has shown himself to be every bit the prankster that Randall is at the beginning of the movie, and that devious smile of his at the end of "Pranks For Nothing" is 100% pure Boggs! Wilt also pulls a stunt that even Randall would have been impressed by, using a fake arm, in "Nightmare On Wilson Way", to scare the daylights out of some little kids who came trick-or-treating, and that look on his face when they took off running and screaming was identical to that grin Randall had after successfully scaring the snot out of Mike Wazowski in the locker room! Wilt has also shown that he does NOT appreciate being accused of something he didn't do...ESPECIALLY if the accuser happens to be small, green, and have just one big eye(in this case, Jackie Khones, who was accusing Wilt of stealing Mac's library book...and Jackie's deviled eggs), and he will get an attitude if the accuser persists, much as Randall did when Mike accused him of "cheating". Having just read back in some of the long-ago posts made here, I came across LGBB's description of the Monsters, Inc. video game, "Pinball Panic", in which Randall is the main character, and in which YOU play against HIM in a game of electronic pinball(apparently Randall is quite the gamer, not surprisingly). Far from ridiculing his competitor, though, Randall seems to take on the role of coach, encouraging his opponent rather than taunting. Reading that, I was reminded of the "flashback" scenes in Good Wilt Hunting, in which Wilt teaches, but also challenges, his young creator, Jordan, to become better and better at basketball. I've also seen a brief video introduction, somewhere on the web(sure can't find it now, and I've looked)of the game in which Randall shows off some REALLY impressive moves with a pinball, much like you-know-who does when showing off with a basketball. I've found the screencaps(that one in particular adorns my desktop), but they're just stills. Of course, I think in one of the other games(Sean will have to refresh my memory), it was stated that Randall had to actually TRAIN new Scarers, and to do that, it would not be enough for him merely to be great at what he did, but he'd need "people skills", too-the ability to patiently instruct n00bies to help THEM become proficient at Scaring, too. It goes to show just how negatively the events immediately leading up the movie affected Randall's personality, since if he'd always been "nasty" and "evil" and "untrustworthy", he'd never have been picked for that job of training others. I'd wager he was better at it than Sherie Flynt!

Oh shoot...I have to start picking up the show again...I DID manage to catch that movie with Franky in that weird world (great writing on that one)....but forgot the times the show aired...
That he IS a gamer ^0^ Me and Ran are teaming up to fight through Super Smash Bros. Brawl ^0^ I'm guessing these encouraging words are a fascmile of when he was a trainer back when, when he trained Sullivan.
Yep like I said above he was a trainer. Specifically he was on loan, employeed as a Scarer but also bonused in being a had trainer at Scare Island. RANDALL probably had MORE restraint than Flynt at the time! As Flynt's record showed she actually punched a trainee 0_0

As Flynt's record showed she actually punched a trainee 0_0 That latest Foster's movie you saw was Destination Imagination, which got nominated for an Annie and an Emmy the same week it came out. It was good, really good, but CREE-PY! I like that it delved into the whole notion of an alternate universe, a parallel dimension, but what a weird one! And that new Imaginary Friend, the one who actually created that whole world...talk about someone emotionally unstable and dangerous! His power, the ability to "possess" and animate anything that doesn't have a face, is way scarier than what Randall does, and he's got far, far less sense of restraint that Randall has, too, even at Randall's worst. Mike and Sulley need to experience one of "World's" little temper tantrums, just to keep things in the proper perspective. Randall would seem like Mahatma Ghandi in comparison! Yep, Sherie Flynt DID get a reprimand for slapping, actually, a Scare Trainee because, in her words, "he was stupid", lol. pitbulllady

Yeah, I loved that...it was so creative. An entire world of "vessels" this one friend could inhabit...I may understand WHY they waited a bit to give the last season (though stopping reruns seemed inappopriate), since they wanted to make the last one the best they could. Well I saw the IF as a sort of dependant child. Alone in a box for most of his life, but when he got too clingy, he got dangerous.
Well I think it was hit, but yeah suppose it was more her style to slap ^0^

Oh, yeah, before I forget...both Randall and Wilt have those "weird suction-cuppy thingies" at the ends of their fingers(Eduardo's description, not mine)!

Sure they're suction cupped? ^_^ If it wasn't Jordan or basketball, Wilt would be a good facsmile of Randall's IF ^0^

Sure they're suction cupped? ^_^ If it wasn't Jordan or basketball, Wilt would be a good facsmile of Randall's IF ^0^ Whose fingers are you referring to, Randall's or Wilt's? Eduardo specifically mentions that Wilt's fingers end in "those weird suction-cuppy thingies" when giving his police officer creator, Nina, a description of Wilt so she could create a police-style profile of him to assist in them finding him, in Good Wilt Hunting. You can plainly see that on the hands(or in Wilt's case, singular HAND)of both Randall and Wilt, their fingertips are somewhat flattened and widened out into a sort of rounded pad. While neither of them has real suction cups, per se, as those would require either their fingers or the surface they wish to grip to be wet, they DO have an enhanced gripping function. I've explained how lizard digits, those of geckos especially, work in allowing them to cling to vertical surfaces with ease, and we've actually seen Randall's in action doing just that. Wilt's probably work the exact same way, only they are designed more to help him grip a basketball. With his long, long limbs far from his body's center of gravity, Wilt would probably have difficulty, to say the least, scaling a vertical surface(he can just jump over most of them), not to mention that one of those limbs is missing, and he wears shoes on two of the others, and he seems really reluctant to remove said shoes! Randall himself probably could not climb or cling very well if he only had the normal reptile/mammal compliment of four limbs, since that would not be enough to support his weight. pitbulllady

Ahh yes, another comparison could be with Cera from the Land Before Time series. (mostly the first one).

Having just watched Fargo again for the umpteenth time, I really do think that there are some similarities between Randall and Carl Showalter (who is also played by Steve Buscemi). Carl's relationship with his partner in crime, who could be considered the equivalent to Waternoose, is perhaps a bit different to Waternoose and Randall's relationship, but there's still the whole one guy doing all the dirty work whilst the other doesn't get involved type thing. That, and every word that comes out of Carl's mouth I can imagine Randall saying.
