OK, I guess last year I did not make this sufficiently clear. So: A gorgon's petrifying power is actually a paralyzing power, utilizing an electrolaser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolaser). The beam is delivered through the large eye. It paralyzes the victim for about a minute. The gorgon suffers a "beam hangover" for about an hour while the electrolaser organ recharges. S/he (there are male gorgons) is able to run away, but that is all. Why did Cecilia not use this power on Mike? Because she would be cutting off her nose to spite her face. She would have the experience of having a splitting migrain with battery acid in her eye for about 60 minutes while Mike would have the experience of banging a whole body funny bone for about 60 seconds. She would hurt more than he would. That's why gorgons prefer to use their brains rather than their eye (like when Cecilia announced Randall had broken the all time Scare record to mob and immobilize him). However, a gorgon was banished to ancient Greece about 3000 years ago, and her adventures provided the seed of the Medusa legend. This comes from an animal native to the monster world that some mon ate, just as Randall's phased array optic invisibility power is based on another animal that was scavenged by a mon (a living one would be hard to catch!).

While Celia Mae might have snakes for "hair", I don't see any evidence whatsoever that she has any powers beyond those that all us females possess! She's no gorgon; she can't paralyze with a look or by telekinesis. Randall "froze" when she announced that he'd broken the All-Time Scare Record because of shock, because it wasn't TRUE, and he knew it! Plus, he was immediately surrounded by other monsters coming over to give their false congratulations and stand on his tail, which Celia Mae knew would happen. She succeeded because she was SMART and resourceful, NOT because she had some supernatural power. She understood the behavior of the monsters on the Scare Floor because this is what she'd witnessed many times before, so she knew she could count on that mobbing behavior to stall Randall. The only power she had to use on Mike in the aftermath of the CDA's raid on the restaurant was the Power of a ****ed-off Female, and again, ALL us gals have that one down packed! If she DID have a gorgon's powers, to freeze people or turn them to stone, why didn't she use it on the CDA agents who roughed her up? That's a no-brainer; she doesn't have any such power.

She said, "Gorgons would rather use their brains instead of power". And there were too many CDA monsters to try to paralyze. But I'm not sure she has any kind of power, either.

I don't know about that, either... I think Celia acted just like any normal human twenty-something in a body of a monster, if you ask me.

IF she had that kind of power AND used it against the C.D.A., she would've been arrested. Not to mention that petrifying an individual is kind of...well...lets say that law enforcement may frown upon seeing it's city's citizens being statues on the channel 7 news ^_^
Though I doubt she has the power. I mean IF she did, you'd see Wazowski with a sorta anti-petrify amulet or something, as most men would be terrified of the thought of being stuck in place and being ranted by their girlfriend ^0^

^ Actually, let me add that to the list of possible ways to torture Wazowski... LOL. I'm so mean to him. But the more times I watch Monsters, Inc., the more I hate that little jerk.

Although she looks like her, Celia is no Medusa in my eyes... She seems to be caring and nice, but the problem is we never see her true agenda towards Randall... Whether she stays in the backrow in confrontations kind of thing... Anyway, having a job as a receptionist requires her social skills and that's the main reason why I think she doesn't play nasty. But of course, you can't underestimate her anger towards other people because even I'd get out of the way... You'll never know... she might be Mike's personal trainer backstage ;D lol.
