Yeah, it wouldn't make sense. That IS ironic that he was killed in a car accident! Was he the guy that Ranft (the monster) was named after, or was that his brother?

Yes, the monster named "Ranft", whose name appears on the Scare Board, was indeed named after Pixar artist Joe Ranft. He's the guy who was killed during the filming of Cars, sadly. No one had heard him voice a character, so if Pixar had hired someone else to voice "Big Red", the fire truck, the audience would not have noticed, but John Lasseter realized that even that would not be the right thing to do, which is why I would be extremely surprised and shocked if Pixar got someone other than Steve Buscemi to voice Randall for Party Central. Either his name was unintentionally left out, or Randall's not in that short, and I hope he's not. As much as I love seeing him, it would not make sense, not in light of what happens to him in MU. I know that some people WANT to see "Evil Randall", WANT to see him do awful things, and WANT to see him hurt/punished, as is inevitable, and post those little smart-a$$ gifs or photosets to my comments on Tumblr to the opposite, but I cannot comprehend that attitude at all, to claim that you like someone but you WANT the very worse for them! What I AM hoping for, though, is perhaps some little clue in PC that there will be a real sequel, that perhaps Randall will return and finally redeem himself. pitbulllady

Sooo, word has it on Tumblr that Steve Buscemi's name does NOT appear on the list of actors for Party Central. If that's true, that he's not in it, then it confirms what you and I have said all along, RB, although some folks aren't too happy about that because they WANT to see "Evil Randall" show up and try to ruin the fun now that he has cast off his "good guy" disguise and revealed his true evil nature and hates everyone and will be defeated by the Mighty Sullivan and the Perfect Capt. Mike for a second time. I HOPE Dan Scanlon won't play Saturday morning cartoon with this, that he'll make it fun, but have a deeper message, a positive one, like he did in MU, so I will not lose the respect I've gained for him as a director. pitbulllady I actually did say that at the start...that the OKS, Chet, and Johnny were in the listing, but not Randall. Even though it's a chance they would have somebody come in, that would mean that Randall would AT LEAST be mentioned even if Steve isn't on board. But this is good, at least it makes SENSE. Pixar's good at story workings, so hopefully they get the reasons as we've discussed. Good points there PBL about Ranft and Lasseter's decision. As far as I can remember...Steve's done Randall's voice for everything that he's been in (don't quote me on that)...though for Infinity, it seems, J.P. Manoux does the voice. Of course, that's keeping in mind that Steve, apparently, is the star of Boardwalk Empire...and considering it was DISNEY Infinity...may not have had the time.

Of course, that's keeping in mind that Steve, apparently, is the star of Boardwalk Empire...and considering it was DISNEY Infinity...may not have had the time. Yep, but again, given that THIS time, Steve WAS already on hand, already in the Pixar studio recording Randall's voice for MU, IF he was to be in PC as well, they would have gone ahead and recorded his lines for that, too, like they did for those characters who ARE going to be in PC. It just does not make sense or "mesh" with what we saw in MU for Randall to be there, for ANY reason. I do honestly believe that Dan Scanlon is on board for the most part with us, in not seeing Randall as this evil thing whose hate and rage was simply released just by that one incident in the Scare Games and who now "hates everyone" and will stop at nothing to hurt others. That makes NO sense, especially given that NO company is going to hire someone who is like that right off the bat, no matter how badly they needed workers! I really think that by showing Randall in that more sympathetic light, as someone who made mistakes, like all of us do, rather than someone who deliberately chose to be evil and nasty, that Scanlon is setting the stage for something better to happen for Randall, at least, I sincerely HOPE so. Scanlon does NOT strike me as someone who would go with a jaded "Saturday morning, two-dimensional villain". He did not have one in MU, after all. He also took his story in that movie in a rather unexpected direction, but one that made complete sense and was very relevant to Real Life. For him to have Randall show up, all evil and mean now, and try to do something to hurt others at the party or mess things up in order to get revenge, would be cheap, PERIOD. It would be shallow and not in keeping with the message of MU or the route which Scanlon took in order to get that message across to movie-goers. I don't think that Randall will play a role in PC at all, but rather, it will turn out to be JOHNNY'S redemption and reconciliation with Mike and Sulley that really forms the basis for the short, which will set the stage, hopefully, for a future redemption and reconciliation for Mike, Sulley and Randall by establishing that whole theme of forgiveness. pitbulllady
