ALL the dogs that you see in movies or on tv have been highly trained by professional dog trainers, and I have to admire ANYBODY who can train a Husky to do anything besides run, run, run and kill things! I've had Siberian Huskies, and they're like dogs on crack! They are bred to run and pull sleds in races, and that's what they do best. When they can't do that, all heck ensues! They are escape artists, and are really quite close to wild animals in behavior, but more hyper than any wolf ever thought of being(I've had those, too, and despite all the claims of what horrible pets they make, they still are better, paws down, than a Husky when it comes to adapting to living with people). In many places, though, Huskies, Malamutes, Akitas, Samoyeds, and crosses of these and other "primitive" breeds fall under the description of "Wolf hybrids" and are banned as such, especially if the dog has no registration "papers" to prove it's a Husky, Malamute, or whatever.
Huskies have had several periods of popularity in this country, due to movies like Snow Dogs. When a breed becomes very popular, it's usually for the wrong reasons, often due to the entertainment media. People will see a movie about Dalmatians(which are aggressive guard dogs), Huskies, Collies, or whatever, and their kids will have a fit to get one "just like So-and-So", and they run out and buy a puppy without doing any research into what they're getting into. When the dog winds up in the shelter, it's not so much for lack of a home, but lack of education on the part of the buyer, and on the part of many breeders who only want to cash in on a fad and do not bother telling the new owner the pro's and cons of that breed. The reason that Pit Bulls are so popular now is due to the news media constantly going on and on about how bad, how tough and how indestructable they are, which makes them very appealing to the gang-bangers and drug dealers. I can guarantee that if the news media started actually REPORTING on the Labrador attacks and Golden Retriever attacks that DO occur, the thugs would start rushing out to buy THOSE, too! It's all about image, and people who want that image of being a bad-{other word for donkey}will want whatever dog the media TELLS them is bad! I can remember when every tough guy HAD to have a Doberman, and before that, a German Shepherd, because of their image as tough, mean dogs. Now, Dobermans are passe', and fairly rare, which suits REAL Doberman fanciers just fine!
