Seriously, I can't believe any of you actually believed some skiers had found a real dragon in the Carpathian mountains! It was an interesting show-just watched it awhile ago, but they kept stating things like "what IF they were real", etc., which should have clued everyone in that it was a fake "documentary"-an interesting one, but not a real one.
What IS real is the fact that EVERY human culture on the planet, even the Inuit of the Canadian Arctic, has stories and "legends" of intelligent, land-based scaly creatures, which some did call "dragons". The whole fire-breathing issue was a CREATION of Judeo-Christian beliefs, when EVER scaly creature was considered a minion of Satan, breathing out fires of Hell. This was NOT, I repeat, part of pre-Christian dragon lore. What sets these creatures, common to so many world cultures, apart from mundane reptiles is that they, like us, had a society and culture and intellect of their own. They were NOT thought of as mere animals, even by those who despised and feared them and sought to destroy them, but as sentient beings. THAT is the aspect that is a widespread belief in pretty much ever human society, including those which had no way to communicate with each other, and THIS is what makes it difficult for me, personally, to believe that it all is just a universal myth. There HAD to have been something to it, and not just someone spotting a crocodile or a big monitor lizard, either, since those were familiar to the people who shared the land with them, and still were considered ordinary animals, like dogs or pigs. The "Animal Planet" special did NOT emphasize that at all, but stressed that the dragons WERE just ordinary animals, trying to survive in an increasingly hostile environment, like tigers or grizzlies today. The old beliefs don't support that.
I've already, meanwhile, stated MY thoughts on what makes us(and any other species like us)different from other animals, in a previous post. Based on that premise, I would classify the characters of "Monsters, Inc." as people, just like we ourselves are people. My dogs and snakes and cats and tarantulas, on the other hand, are NOT people. The beliefs of so many world cultures considered the intelligent, scaly creatures with which they apparently shared their world as people, too, albeit not HUMAN and not always as "valuable" as humans, hence the efforts on the parts of many human cultures to wipe them out of existance.

Come on Pitbulllady....you can't blame people. Some would mistake it for a rhetorical question or something... Besides. Carpatians are...well...judgemental in this field. They have a high belief in dragons, as well as have a dragon temple of their own. THis either proposes that their belief is a little OVER THE TOP, OR that they've actually had encounters.
I agree with that. They did touch on a few things with science, but they never did state what the dragons did...just explained what they are...
Funny......dragons had looked down on Mankind....even pitched in help if they thought they were worthy....and yet....we still encourage their destruction...

"Carpathians" are a mountain range in eastern Europe. The people are called "Romanians", since their country is Romania. The people of Romania had no more beliefs in dragons than any other group of people around the globe. They don't have a "temple" dedicated to dragons, either; it's just that many of their cathedrals date back to the Middle Ages, and feature dragon images(as symbols of Satan)in the stained glass windows and decorative carvings. This is an area where the Roman Catholic Church has long been a stronghold, and as I explained, dragons, and reptilian creatures in general, have long been associated in the Church with Evil. You will be hard-pressed to find a Midieval church that DOESN'T have a dragon image or two, somewhere on its grounds.

The mountains are located in Transylvania are they not? High belief and rumeric tone of Dracula is highly concentrated there. It is also believed that Dracula is of two sides. Of undead....as well.....as the son of a dragon...
Funny....I can't find the google of the temple....pfft....searched all the time and found it...now I can't....
