My friend wanted me to go to her Ju-Jitsu class tonite, so I did. Well, when I got there, everyone was doing stuff and all these moves. And eventually my friend comes up and asks if I wanna do it. I say sure and go ahead. WOW. This is quite fun and it's really a great way to learn self defense! I thought I did quite good, considering it was my first time. I'm not THAT good at the jump or hop forward punches and such, but I'm getting there. I'm going to ask my mom if I can sign up so I can learn s'more moves. I know she'll say yes. =D Anyone do any type of classes? Like fighting? Or sports?

I really, really wish that sort of thing was taught around here, but sadly, the only form of "self-defense" classed taught out here in the rural South are when your father or grandfather teaches you how to use a rifle and a shotgun! I've seen some of the larger cities-none near me-offer classes like what your friend takes, though. It would be a great idea for ALL women to take stuff like this, to defend against attackers as well as to help keep in shape. I'm lovin' your new avatar, by the way pitbulllady

I tried Tai-Chi for a while...not exactly self-defense, but very relaxing. I stopped after a few lessons, though- I didn't have enough time for it. ;D

I've never been able to find a good class, though I've always been interested. I've picked up moves from books and videos on the subjects, though.

Well...I guess it's safe for me to say I'm the one with the most battle experience here *cracks knuckles* heh ^_^

It's difficult for me to find decent classes where I live. There's next to nothing on the subject. The only things I know are a few self-defense moves I learned in school. Sounds cool, though.

In School?
If you can't take a class, train yourself, that's what I say ^_^ Going on 12 years and I'm a force to be reckoned with ^_^

You kinda need a sparring partner, otherwise it's not the same. This is especially true of women, who are much, much more likely to be attacked than men. They need to know exactly what an attacker is going to do, and how to react, and the only way to to actually be in a controlled situation with an instructor and a "bad buy". I'm talking about self-defense without a weapon, other than hands and feet, maybe keys or something any person is likely to have on them. There would be no point in training with a sword or knife, since very few people carry those, especially in my case, since I can be arrested just for having a butter knife on me or in my car at my workplace!

Yeah, that's why my parents want me to go to those sorts of classes, but they're really not my type of thing.

I've been interested in taking a martial arts course of some sort for a while now, and partly for the same reasons you mentioned, pitbulllady. Time has been the big issue for me so far, but since I'm going to be living on my own in a couple years, I just might start looking into what the studios in my town offer. I'm not a very athletic person at all (unlike my other sisters), but I have a feeling this is something I could actually get into and have fun with. ~Light Rises

Hmph.... People.....
They use guns nowadays...yet they don't know how to defend against a blade.... The pen is mightier than the sword, but the sword is mightier than the gun....
I can take out anyone if I wanted to...believe me....and yes...I have practiced with a partner before...

Well, I decided NOT to join. Why? I have my reasons. Well, instead, I still wanted to do something for this summer instead of sitting on my butt playing video games, watching TV, sleeping and....going on the computer... so my mom's gonna take me to this activity thing on the Base...it's for...like..art and sports.
Atleast I can say "I did something besides sit at home!". XD

The pen is mightier than the sword, but the sword is mightier than the gun.... Which also means that the pen is mightier than the gun, which can actually be very true! ;D

It's just people use guns so much nowadays they forgot what it's like to handle melee weapons....
Heck. They're more reliable anyway...
