Heh... We're run out of gas sooner than we think. - No, not really. The Athabasca Tar Sands (up in Northern Alberta, the province I live in) has huge ammounts of oil. I believe I heard once that if we found a way to convert it to petrol in a more efficient manner, it could provide gas for the US (at the rate they're going now) for over a century before running out. Between then and now (a hundred years is a long time) a better (hopefully more eco-friendly) energy source would have been found/invented. And there are more Tar Sand areas around too (for example, in Venezuela). Stats taken from Wikipedia: So no, it's not gonna run out sooner than we think. Probably. *shifty eyes* Yes, I am a nerd, with a huge ammount of useless information.

Thank you for pointing that out, Beboots! There's plenty of oil, but the problem is that most of our refineries were shut down in the 90's due to demands from environmental groups. The existing ones are old and can only handle so much. Yes, I'd like to see us discover other means of obtaining energy, which are cheaper and cleaner AND just as reliable, but so far this has proved to be a Holy Grail, without the Monty Python guys. It would surely be nice if WE could harness scream or laugh energy-just one Disney theme park could run a large city almost indefinately-or our scientists would get a handle on Zero-Point Energy, which IS very real and IS being investigated, but so far, no luck.

Hmph...sure...you'll run out either way, even if it's a century.

It may be more than that, and to add to what Beboots said, there are copious amounts of oil in Alaska and Northern Canada, and by that I mean TONS.

So, basically, it will eventually run out but will take a hell of a long time, and if we continue with our scientific advanses etc., by the time it's meant to have run out, we'll have found out another means of creating energy that's cleaner anyway. Things always seem to be improving, so I guess it's only a matter of time before humans discover something else.

Heh. That's what the said about Nuclear Power.... And what's wrong with nuclear power? Are you thinking of nuclear weapons?

I'm not an expert, but I actually think they're quite different things...

Nuclear weapons contain much from nuclear power, nuclear power was the basis for nuclear weapons. Believe me, I've studied before.
