Spellwork? Are you Wiccan? ^_^
I'm leaning towards Wiccanism as a religion, so it'd be pretty interesting if you were one too. ;D

I've got a friend who's Wiccan, and she was showing me some of the books that she uses. One of them was covered in velvet.

Wicca is an awesome religion; I've looked around at several religions (Christianity, Buddhism, etc.), at it's the one that I think fits best with what I believe (with some coolness thrown in). You can pick and choose from any classical deity to worship (the Roman gods & Goddesses, the Norse Gods/Goddesses, or even the Aztec ones, if you want).
Most practisioners believe in "magick", which is essentially how you use the force of your will/intent to get things done. (not telekenisis, although that would be cool, but say, for example, doing a little ritual each day dedicated to getting a certain task done - that way you're thinkng about it and, if you believe, it will eventually be accomplished).
I think it's classified as a "neo-pagan" religion, in that many people are trying to "revive" some of the old, pre-christian religions from what we know of them (for example, there are thousands of "druids" who worship at Stonehenge at each equinox, even though we know know that it wasn't a druid place of worship).
...It's a very ecclectic, and complicated, religion, and either really strict or really loose depending upon which "coven" you are a part of (there's thousands of different main denominations, and each one is slightly different), plus there's many more solitary practicioners, which is what I aim at becoming. I've been wearing a pentacle, a symbol of the religion, around my neck each day for nearly a year and a half, which is sort of my pledge to become more immersed once I have time (highschool, work, and the pit orchestra take up most of my time); probably not until summer or even after I graduate will I have time to really get into doing the proper rituals.
Book covered in velvet? What wasd it called? The main book I use is "the Solitary Witch: the Ultimate Book of Shadows for the New Generation". It's really fascinating, and includes all the historical explainations to things, which is almost what I'm most interested in. ^_^
....Sorry for rambling. I hope that this gave you guys a bit of information about Wiccan... It just occured to me, though, that I don't think we're supposed to be preaching political and religious values on this board, so if you guys object, I won't say anything more on the matter. Sorry. -_-;

The book was sort of a guide to becoming part of the Wiccan religion. It looked quite old, and I assume that it was originally bought my my friend's mother, as she joined when she was a teenager herself.
