Since Mel's the only one...I figured I ask everyone else too......
I NEED help with my scanner. I CAN'T get the comic or any of my art into my computer, and funds are pretty low.
The disk and box are gone, so I can't go to them to help.
The thing is, my computer DID have this installed. For some reason, it can't hook back up.
Can SOMEONE help me fix this!? PLEASE!!

I wish I could help you, Sean, but a techno-geek I'm not! The only thing I can suggest is to go through the Start-up button(and I'm assuming you have Windows SOMETHINGOROTHER), click on "Control Panel", and look for "Printers and Scanners" or on some versions, "Scanners and Cameras", then click that. If you find your scanner listed, that means it's still intalled, even if it's not showing up on the desktop. You can click and drag to create a new desktop shortcut. If it has been uninstalled, well, I'm afraid there's nothing anyone can do without the installation CD ROM. If the driver has gone bad, you can often go to the website for the company who made the scanner, and download a new driver using the model number for that particular scanner. Often, the cables which connect scanners and printers to the computer go bad, and it's relatively cheap to replace those, but it can be hard to tell if it's the cable or the peripheral itself that's the trouble.

And the site for a HP Scanjet 2200c scanner would be....?
The thing is. Here's my situation. It does NOT appear in my Scanners and Cameras. When I try to "Add A New Image Device", and bring up HP, I don't see HP Scanjet 2200c.
Since this seems like the way to install it. HOW do I get the model information of the HP Scanjet so the computer understands it without the disk?
Thank you for replying Pitbulllady...^_^

I'd like to help, but I don't have a scanner, so I have no idea how to work one in the first place, let alone set one up. ;D

It use to be on the computer, but I don't know what happened to it.
UGH! Why do computer applications have to be SO difficult huh!? I mean, you plug it in, power it up, the computer should recognize it from it's database, has the fixed in controls to install it, and BOOM, you got it.
But what about those people who lose the disks huh?! WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY TO DO!!!
......Sorry..... I'm just mad I'm not able to show you guys some of my work...

If you can remember a particular date on which the scanner WAS still installed, there is a way to go in and "restore" your computer to what it was on that date, including all the software that was installed. The problem is(well, one of several problems)is that anything you've installed since then will be UNinstalled, and I have a feeling that when you had all this computer trouble several months ago, that's what happened to the scanner. Also, any nasty spywares or viruses that were active on your computer at that time could be REinstalled, and you don't want that! I am not sure of the exact means of doing this; this is one of those things that techno-geeks are best at, but I had someone from BellSouth FastAccess talk me through the process via the phone, since there was stuff installed on my computer recently that was interfering with my DSL programming, and he had me restore the computer to an earlier date, and the problem was fixed. Anyway, the webpage for HP is www.hp.comYou can go there and look around and see if you can get any information about obtaining software to reinstall your particular scanner, but that's really all I can tell you. pitbulllady

Is the driver the application that lets the computer recognize the hardware?

Why are major computer corporations SO stupid? ALL I want to know is how to install something without the disk. We've done it before. I mean, the computer already recognizes other hardware, how do I get it to recognize this one.....

Is the driver the application that lets the computer recognize the hardware? Are you talking about a driver that you found on the HP website that's associated with your particular scanner model? If it is, than yes -- the driver IS the software which helps the computer recognize the hardware. If the HP website has a download for that driver, then I think you should give it a shot. ~Light Rises

I'm with Lizard-girl on this problem...I haven't got a clue... I mean, I DO have a scanner and know how to work them, but the troubleshooting is something I leave up to my dad. Wish I could be of some help..that really stinks. I've had computers do all kinds of crazy things like that before. My old laptop has a drive for CD's, but no matter what it does not read or recognize them. So I can't use ANY program that requires a disc to install or run on that thing.
