FINALLY-I have been able to sit down and create a new pic of Randall's New Orleans and Vicinity tour, this one at Destrehan Plantation, just off the River Road northwest of the city. I wanted to capture this enigmatic look in his eyes, reflective and contemplative, making you wonder just what he's thinking about. I have had an absolute FIT with that porch-I simply could NOT make straight lines to save my life for some reason! I think it's time for new contacts or something, but even with Paint's straight line drawing feature(and I hardly EVER use Paint, except for stuff like this)I just couldn't seem to get them parallel, or something. I finally just kept it like it is. www.deviantart.com/view/17893021/pitbulllady

Where in the world did you get the background? A Photograph? Looks a little too real to me.
Then again, what would I know?

The background is a pic in a book belonging to another teacher, "Plantation Houses of the South", one of those "coffee table" books featuring mostly pictures of, well, plantation houses of the South. She let me borrow it get the background right, but I had an awful time getting the boards straight, for some reason, and getting lines to look parallel, so I usually just ended up using color instead of line to give the impression of the floor. The ceiling wasn't too bad, but the shutters and the floor wouldn't cooperate. It might have had something to do with the fact that I did most of it at school, and was paranoid about the Principal walking in and seeing me on the computer, which isn't permitted(we have to have a computer, but can't use it-go figure). It would also have been easier to have drawn the pic out on paper, where I could use rulers, then scan it, but alas, our school does not have ONE functioning scanner, and only two working printers at the moment. I'm glad you thought the background looked real; I thought it looked awful, honestly.

Not that bad at all. Made the table too I guess? His neck is a little small but you did his eyes keenly. Say. Is that his head scar there? Makes you wonder what he's looking at...

Wow....that's a lovely scene. =D It's so serene...and it definitely does make you wonder what he's thinking about. Great job; I love his face!

Nope, it's digitally "airbrushed" from a photo in a book I borrowed, because it was the perfect angle and everything, AND was actually in Louisiana. I'd thought about using one of South Carolina's many Low-Country plantations, like Middleton Place, but I found that pic of Destrehan Plantation, which I've passed at a distance but never actually visited. I think that pic was also shown on Louisianatravel.com, which I used to get an email newsletter from, but they haven't sent me one in a long time. I guess it's because I haven't been there in a long time. I had to use Paint to create the straight lines, then import that line drawing back into Painter, which does not offer a choice between drawing straight, geometric lines and drawing freestyle, but does have that wonderful "airbrush" and color wheel features and is taylored just for the Wacom tablet and pen. Drawing buildings is really just a matter of perspective, and painting them in is no different from painting in anything else, probably easier, since there are less textures to worry about(unlike doing scales on a certain monster, who shall remain nameless...).

You ARE new here ^_^ As some here would say, Ran's one of those insecure types, so he has a tough exterior but...has a sort of soft inside. And with the life he's got...surprising what sadness he's got doesn't leak out...at least then...

Excelent one but why most of Ran pics are sad.I dont see him as sad person. I don't really try to make him look "sad", just thoughtful or reflective. In this pic, he's just got some time on his hands to sit and think...and drink coffee...about various things, his past, his future, whatever. Randall's been through a lot of really bad stuff, some of which, I have to admit, he brought upon himself in moments of poor judgement, and some of it not his fault at all, but all of that is still bound to weigh on him, emotionally, some of the time. He DOES have some of the symptoms of clinical depression, although I don't see him as being depressed all the time. Given time to heal, which is why I put him in the Louisiana setting in the first place, he would be able to change. The state tourism slogan for Louisiana is "Come as you are-leave different", and I wanted to convey Randall arriving in that state under most-unpleasant circumstances(it can't get much worse than being attacked with a shovel, after all), and eventually coming to love that state as much as I do, due to the laid-back atmosphere of pre-Katrina southern Louisiana. pitbulllady
