I guess, for me, I find that although yes, it is practise, I feel that if I don't write these stories, it's as though I'm not giving Randall a full life, if you know what I mean. As though if I don't write it, Randall will still only be just a character in a film.
Anyone take psycology here? I'm sure SOMEONE does- I remember it being mentioned...Just wondering, because, well, I could do with a bit of help involving pyscological conditions and such. ;D

I have taken numerous Psychology courses, mainly dealing with children, since it's part of my job requirement to be up on stuff like that.

Really? Great, coz I was just wondering- is there any psycological conditions that involve the patient sort of...think that they're living in another world, or something like that?

I have AP Psychology this year.... ;D The AP test is this Tuesday and my final is tomorrow. ...anyway, I would think that if a patient thought they were living in another world, they'd probably be schizophrenic, since that would involve experiencing false sensory perceptions (hallucinations) and having completely false beliefs (delusions) about who you are or what is going on in your life (such as believing that you are the messiah, or that some alien race is trying to control your mind.)

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of. ;D
And good luck with your finals! ;D

Thanks!! People always think schizophrenia is the same thing as multiple personality disorder/dissociative identity disorder, but it's not. They're both reallly interesting disorders, though. ;D

I have a few free blocks in grade twelve (yep, I've already planned out what I'm going to be taking in the next two years), and I'm thinking of taking the three credit psyc. course being offered here. I've heard from other people who've taken it that it's a pretty good quality course. 'Sides, it could help with my writing.

Really? Great, coz I was just wondering- is there any psycological conditions that involve the patient sort of...think that they're living in another world, or something like that? Yeah, that would be Schizophrenia or Bi-Polar disorder, though the latter is often associated with acute depression as well. Schizophrenics have false sensory impressions, such as hearing voices or seeing things that aren't there, or believing they are someone they aren't, or other people are someone THEY aren't. I would guess that a Schizophrenic could imagine that he/she is living on another planet or in a different dimension, since their "take" on reality would be warped. I had a student once, a first grader, no less, who believed that plants were able to move and do things, like bite. She was terrified of a house plant I had on my desk, and swore it was moving and coming after her in class on more than one occasion. She would also periodically scream and thow down her pencils or crayons, then cry, claiming they'd burned her hand. The really sad thing was that her parents refused to believe this was anything other than childhood imagination, and blamed ME for the child's problems, making me get rid of my plants in the classroom(even though the child was afraid of wild-growing plants outside, too)and telling me to go along with her when she claimed to have been burnt by a crayon! The school psychologist who examined the child was very disturbed by what he found, but beyond recommending that the parents seek professional help, that's all the school can do. The parents still insisted that there was either nothing wrong with their child or it was due to the stress that the school put on her. By the time they moved away to another district, the child was claiming that a "red man" was following her everywhere, trying to kill her, and was nearly bald from pulling out her hair because no one else could see him. I don't know what every became of her, but I doubt it was anything good. All too often I have seen cases like this, where the parents refuse to believe anything is wrong with their kid, until the kid enters the criminal justice system or gets killed. pitbulllady

Ouch.... About the character thing... I belive one of the reasons I don't consider the writings "practice" is because....well.....I call it simply "Character Life Force". Believeablity and fanbasing is what keeps Characters alive. And writing about them is how they continue their lives. They probably would be in Porgitory without somewhere to go....

That's really sad, Pitbulllady. And it's even worse that the parents couldn't see that there was something wrong with their own child- I guess they thought that since she was their child, it couldn't be possible for there to be anything wrong with her.
