Finally saw the actual movie, Fantastic Four yesterday. I thought it was totally awesome! Definately lives up to the comics well, in my mind.
I think the cast they chose to play the characters worked out great. Chris Evans made a great Johnny Storm, I thought. The character was sorta annoying at first, but after awhile I guess he grows on ya. lol. He was simply hilarious and I appreciate that he matured a bit near the end. I ended up liking him alot (as if I didn't already, hehe). Susan Storm was a great character too. It's hard to choose a favorite, because all four characters were awesome.
The special effects totally rocked too. I can imagine it took them quite alot of time and effort to make it look like Reed was stretching like that and Johnny turning into the "Human Torch". I thought that was one of the most impressive feats they accomplished there. The fire looked incredibly real. When I go into CGI, I wanna do stuff like that! ;D
The story is great as well. You can tell they tried to keep it as authentic to the comics as possible. And there was plenty of action and adventure. It was quite a ride, I must say. My favorite parts were probably when Johnny shielded that young girl from the engine explosion, the X Games motocross thing, and the end part where he was being pursued by the heat seeking missile. The cosmic storm and final fight sequences were thrilling as well. AWESOME stuff.
(LOL. I also loved the prank Johnny played on Ben/The Thing. The whipped cream in the face thing is just hilarious.)
The only con I have about the movie is that, after reading the movie novelization first, the movie seemed to go along a tad too fast for my liking. And, due to time constraints, I'm sure they had to take out alot of the original ideas to fit it into two hours. So, that's understandable. There were quite a few scenes in the novel that they seemed to have had to cut out of the actual movie. It worked out okay in most cases, but I think I would have liked to see them include a defining moment with Johnny. In the book, after he had an arguement with Susan and stormed out of the building, he went off to some bar to hang out with a bunch of females. One catches his eye and he tries to charm her just like all the others, but she ends up shunning him and he has a run-in with her boyfriend. Johnny decides to show this guy who's boss by using his fire powers, but the girl breaks them up before he can do so and retorts that "If I had your powers, I'd be using them for something useful!" then storms off with her boyfriend. His female "fans" that were with him start leaving him, disgusted by his behavior, and he starts to realize that - like he had always been told - fame was fleeting, he was simply a "fad". They didn't really care for him that much - and acting like a jerk wasn't helping any. So, it hits him with the reality of "fame" and sorta wakes him up to the truth, what really matters in life, and all that. So, having matured a bit, he notices the lights in the city flickering and decides to head back to help his friends.
I think that would have been a very good addition to the movie, but otherwise, I thought it was fantastic! Best movie I've seen in awhile. In fact, I wanna see it again. Lol.
