This topic came up on my message board awhile back and I don't know if you guys know about it yet. www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movies/11/16/film.toy.story/index.htmlLooks like Disney already has plans for when Pixar leaves (after "Cars" is released). It appears that, since Disney has the rights to past movies (like Bug's Life, TS, etc), they're going to try to do what Pixar did, as though they didn't ever need them in the first place. I'd hate to see them take up where the original MI left off. Undoubtedly, they'd royally screw the characters up. I don't know about you guys, but I think I'd rather not have them make an MI sequal than have them make a bad one. I think Disney would either eliminate Randall altogether from a sequal (how dare they!), or they would keep him under the "villian" role. That would be like a slap in our faces. So, I'm hoping Eisner doesn't get any ideas. In my opinion, this is sorta like blackmail against Pixar. It's like, "Hey, look what we're gonna do to your ideas! We're gonna take them and make our own sequals, if you don't come crawling back to us!"

One thing many of us Pixar fans are holding out for, is the departure of Michael Eisner in 2006, when he retires. Maybe it's coincidental-maybe not-that the release date for the last official Pixar/Disney movie(under their current contract), which is "Cars", has been pushed back from fall 2005 to summer 2006. Eisner is scheduled to leave in early 2006. It also shows promise that Pixar has not entered into talks with any other studios as of this time. What insiders and fans are hoping for is that once Eisner is gone, Steve Jobs will renew talks with Bob Iger, Eisner's replacement, with whom Jobs reportedly gets along with much better. Nothing would make me happier than a "M.I.2" made by Pixar, distributed by Disney, with both sharing equally in the profits AND ownership of the characters, AND of course, Randall in a starrring role in which he is redeemed in the eyes of all!

Actually Joy. Mickey is thinking exactly the same thing. As are the other characters....
Yeah Pitbulllady. But.... Like Judges, Eisner may prepare for his depature, leaving those with views similar to his to carry on.
I can't believe that they would take out Randall.

I haven't heard about that. That opens up things alot more and holds some promise for Pixar-made, Disney-released movies and sequals. Nothing would make me happier than a "M.I.2" made by Pixar, distributed by Disney, with both sharing equally in the profits AND ownership of the characters, AND of course, Randall in a starrring role in which he is redeemed in the eyes of all! Ditto, pitbulllady! That would definately be ideal.

I can't believe that they would take out Randall. I'm simply saying that Disney - if they did a sequal without Pixar - might take him out of the picture. Disney didn't originally create MI, as everyone knows, they just distributed it and had the rights. So, it would kinda be a wild card as to what they'd decide to do with Randall. Especially if Eisner was still in charge. But this news of Eisner retiring next year makes my original fears of a Pixar-less bunch of sequals much less likely. We'll see what happens in 2006.

Yeah....
But Randall WAS an important character and he IS still alive. I don't think they would leave him out......
Without going in deep, who would be the villain?
OF COURSE we know Randall is NOT one. But Disney won't believe us.

Well, you know what Disney are like- they've probably got like a set of rules for what a villain has to be like and for what a hero has to be like.

You know....they should really get Stitch's director to do it if Disney seriously IS...... Randall has to have a revelation...

You know....they should really get Stitch's director to do it if Disney seriously IS...... Randall has to have a revelation... Now THAT would be a dream come true, if Chris Sanders could direct the sequel in the case that Disney and Pixar don't end up back together. Far as I know, Sander's probably the most likely director to see a need for (a) bringing Randall back, (b) revealing that he's NOT this one-dimensional, "villainous" character at all -- quite far from it, actually -- and (c) letting Randall find redemption. I just hope Sanders will somehow find out how many people want to see this happen, so that perhaps he'll step in when it's time for "M.I. 2" to begin pre-production. ~Light Rises

Certainly HE would see Randall's struggle.
Hmm.....we should contact him....

THey just don't to touch what they, like the rest of us, see as sacrosanct material, for fear of not doing justice to the originals. It's turning out that actors, as I predicted, don't want involvement either. Yesterday in an interview, actor John Ratzenberger, who's been in every Pixar film, stated that he would NOT be part of "Toy Story 3" unless Pixar was involved, calling himself a Pixar team member and swearing his loyalty to them. I would be willing to bet you'll see many of the other 'name-brand" actors who have starred in Pixar films say the same thing, which is all the more reason for Disney and Pixar to remain together. If I REALLY thought that Chris Sanders would be interested in directing M.I.2, I know a contact person for him, who is able to get in touch with him, but I really think he'd most likely be offended, unless Pixar requested that he direct the movie. I agree, though, that he'd be the perfect one to do so, having already shown that he would rather show a "villain" finding good within himself than just being defeated by the "good guys". Think of how L&S would have turned out if he'd followed the "Disney Formula". pitbulllady

And THAT is good. It shows how great Pixar's work is and that THEY should be the one to take their Characters foward, NOT Disney.
You do!? Wait.....I wonder if Sanders knows anything about M.I. 2. Perhaps we could contact him and ask him if we could pass our ideas onto Pixar.
I know Sanders did a Disney film, Stitch, but you know....just an idea...

That's really good news. I'm glad the voice actors are sticking up for the quality of Pixar's works and standing behind them. It makes a reunion of Disney and Pixar in the future a really beneficial and possible prospect (once Eisner is gone, of course).
