Disney has shown interest in doing a sequel to Monsters, Inc. once Toy Story 3 is completed in 2007. However, Pixar, like with Toy Story 3, will be uninvolved.

Disney has shown more than "interest"-they've flat-out stated that they WILL make a sequel, UNLESS....a new deal can be worked out with Pixar. We have discussed this here MANY times. If a new deal is worked out, then either Disney will scrap its "sequel lab" and will NOT make any sequels to the Pixar movies, or the deal might require Pixar to make the sequels, or there might be a joint effort between the two in making the sequels, especially if Pixar cannot get back 100% rights to their characters. OR, it might end up with NOBODY making the sequel. Right now there are many, many options that COULD happen, and no way to know one way or the other which scenario is most likely.
Here is a list of possibilities:
A. No new deal-Pixar and Disney split, permanently, Disney continues with its current plan to make sequels to every Pixar film, and maintains sole ownership right to the characters. B. Disney and Pixar split permanently, but Disney agrees to let Pixar buy back their characters, after which: a. Pixar still sticks with their "no sequels, all originals" policy, OR b. Pixar decides to use the characters and make their own sequels to their movies, which is HIGHLY unlikely, as it is highly unlikely that Disney will relinquish the characters.
C. A new contract between Disney and Pixar is successful, and as part of the deal, Disney gives back the Pixar characters, after which Pixar can elect to use them in sequels, or not. Again, not likely at all.
D. A new contract is negotiated, and as part of the deal, Pixar must make sequels to their own movies Disney to market/distribute, with Disney maintaining at least partial ownership of the characters.
E. A new contract is negotiated, and Pixar AND Disney collaborate on the writing, animating, directing, etc., of the sequels.
So, you see, at this point, there are many possibilities, and no way at all ANYONE, let alone one of us, can say that Pixar will or won't be involved, or even that there definately WILL be a sequel.

To that last post I might add an addendum-Possibility F, with that being that Disney and Pixar remain together, but the new aggreement stipulates that while Disney can keep ownership of the characters to use in theme parks, tv commercials, merchandise, etc., they CANNOT be used in any sequels. Again, given how lucrative "Monsters, Inc. 2" and "The Incredibles 2" are likely to be, I don't see Disney agreeing to this.

"Toy Story 3" is ALREADY in production, and a director has already been set and a script approved, by Disney, though they still might turn it over to Pixar if a new contract is negotiated, or collaborate with them on finishing it. Actual animation and casting has not started yet.

Ugh....It is set to release in 2007 as the first Pixar Disney made sequel. Which gives us nearly 3 years to make an effect....

I'm terribly frightened. Disney's sequels haven't exactly been Oscar-winners (although the two sequels to The Lion King are personal favorites of mine and guilty pleasures), and I can only imagine how badly they'd screw up the Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story sequels. I'm just going to have to wait for the reviews to pour in, though.
Toy Story 2 was fantastic, though. How many competently-made sequels can we name nowadays?

*shrugs*
But at least the time constraint gives us time to make petitions and such....and for some of us to get into Pixar.
If that can happen, we can speed up production.

Stupid Disney. A company makes some of the most amazing films of the decade, and Disney just has to ruin it for money and because of pure jealousy- they can't handle the fact that they're not the 'big boys' of the children's movie industry any more.
