Medusa monsters posses a paralyzing ability. The can emit a tetanizing laser from their main eye ( www.hsvt.org/main.html ). This causes severe conjunctivitis and migraine for several hours, so they prefer to use other means (like announcing a new scare record) whenever possible, but in an emergency it can allow escape and save their lives.

Heheh, of course this is just conjecture. We can't say for CERTAIN.

While Celia Mae LOOKS like the traditional notion of a "medusa" in human myth, she provides no evidence that she can actually paralyze anyone with a mere look. In Greek myth, merely to glance upon a medusa would turn you to stone, even if the creature did not look at YOU! Much of that was based on a belief that SNAKES could turn people to stone, or kill with a look, or kill via "poisonous" breath, so the human perception of medusas is once more based on the many erronous and often stupid beliefs about reptiles. Salamanders were supposed to be able to survive a fire, unscathed, an old myth which gave rise to the Pokemon character, but they are in fact killed by fire just like any other creature.
If Celia Mae could turn someone to stone at a glance, Googly Bear should have been a boulder!

Heheh, my point exactly. Can't judge just by looks. Look at Randall after all, he's NOT cold blooded despite being reptilian in appearance.

If Celia had that sort of powers there might not have been a Monsters Inc. LOL.
Mike would have made a pathetic bird bath.

Well Celia probably didn't inherit the ability. Like Ran it could be said she might've had two different parents (Which, in one of the books, her parents actually don't like Mike....well her mother not liking guys overall maybe heh) and the ability probably didn't stick with her.

I don't believe it was stated she had any of those abilities.

In my theory, the paralysis only lasts a matter of moments (read the link). Some medusoid in ancient times used the power and it got exagerrated by generations of story tellers.

Yes but it's still based on assumption. Assumption is.....bad to do when it comes to things like this. Heheh, there's an old saying actually.
