I thought those were for old people...

Prunes are dried plums-a plum raisen, if you will. They are associated with old people because they are high in fiber, and such fiber is needed to maintain, shall we say, "regularity". Many elderly people do not eat well, since people tend to lose their sense of taste as they age, and foods they once liked become less and less appealing to them, so they often change to a diet of junk food-candy, cakes, and other really sweet or really salty food of little nutritional value, because they can still taste these things. Part of the result is that they don't ingest enough dietary fiber, so they tend to become...IRregular(constipated)and eating prunes, which are quite sweet, was once considered a good source of needed fiber. Of course, ANY fruit will supply necessary fiber, but dried fruits are more convenient because they last in storage. I have access to fresh plums, which grow wild around here in abundance, and much prefer the taste and texture of fresh fruit to dried. Right now, I'm about to OD on blueberries, which also grow wild around here, and the wild grapes are in super-abundance this year, and will soon be ripe. One of the great things about living out here in the sticks in the South, if you can put up with 100-degree heat, mosquitoes the size of commercial jets, and fire ants, is that you get to eat a lot of really good food, absolutely free!

We were looking around for a house, and when we went in the garden of one of the ones we saw the other day, hanging over this little shelter thing were these grapes, and they were delicious. It's pretty cool when you get free food like that, as you said, Pitbulllady. ;D

Parties in the South are full of filling foot. Say WHAT?? "Filling foot"? Oh...you mean "filling FOOD", as in food that fills you up! Yeah, you got that right, although not all of it is very good for you. We have a bad tendency to overload on fats and sugar and carbs down here, and fry the daylights out of everything. It is quite true that if you leave a party or any other gathering down South with an empty stomach, it's your own fault! This time of year is really bountiful, since this is when garden veggies are in season-and if you don't have your own garden, chances are you'll know someone who does. Anyone who has never eaten home-grown vegetables, but has only eaten canned stuff from a store-I really feel sorry for you. pitbulllady

Wah. I'm diabetic too; one time I took my blood sugar after eating sushi and I was over 600. (Normal is like, 90-110) Sushi is my favorite food. Ever. It's not like it's candy or anything, I should be allowed to eat it!

Yikes! Even mine doesn't go that high-how many pieces did you EAT? I usually stop at two or three, lilke I said, since anymore than that and I can feel my sugar going up, so I know that I can't have more. I do love the stuff, though, and it would be very healthy food if not for that danged diabetes! And I totally loooooove Wasabi-I mean, who doesn't like to eat weapons-grade plutonium on their food? I wish I could have seen Wazowski try to scarf down a mouthful of THAT-woulda really made an impression on Celia Mae, huh?
