According to Box Office Mojo, MU has grossed $715, 349, 975. 00 worldwide as of Sept. 04, 2013, making it only the fourth Pixar movie to gross over 700 million worldwide. It has grossed $265, 449, 975.00 domestically(US and Canada)and is STILL playing in 4,004 domestic theaters, not counting those outside the US and Canada, so it's still raking in bucks. It is still ranked No. 1 at the box office in some countries, including Colombia. Thus far, MU is the third most successful movie of 2013, behind Iron Man 3 and Despicable Me 2, respectively, out of ALL genres.
Toy Story 3 remains the top-grossing Pixar film of all time...so far. IT has grossed $1, 063,170,911.00 internationally and $415,004,880.00 domestically, BUT those figures DO reflect sales of DVD's and Blu-Rays, and of course MU has yet to be released on either. I predict it, too, will top a billion in total sales once those are released world-wide. I don't know if it will surpass TS3; it is currently ranked fourth among Pixar movies' box office, and no doubt will wind up at either No. 2 or 3 once all is said and done, so it has performed VERY respectably and then some, which again, is great to rub in the faces of the critics who slammed it or wouldn't give it a chance, AND it means that a third installment is more likely now. I do feel that the possibility of a third Monsters movie was largely contingent upon the success of MU, because it always boils down to the money, and in this case, they have no excuse NOT to continue the franchise!

A third Monsters movie? Omgoshomgoshomgoshomgoshomgoshomgosh. YOU MAKE MY DREMIN' Yes, it would appear that way(love that top gif, btw, perfect reaction gif for this). Check out this older thread: boggsboard.proboards.com/thread/2198/long-line-proposed-monsters-filmsYou can follow the link in the starter post and find out that Dan Scanlon has indeed stated that "MU is just the second in a long line of Monsters films". His statement certainly seemed to indicate that there will be more, although Pixar themselves has not issued any statements to the matter. This was right after MU opened in the US, and it had yet to premier in most countries, and I know that there was some concern that the movie would not "travel" well, and not be well received outside of the US due to the importance of the "Greek" fraternity/sorority culture shown in the movie, which is largely a US phenomenon. Those worries were unfounded, however, as it has actually done BETTER in many other countries than it has in the US, especially in Japan and many other Asian countries. I think that the the thing Pixar was watching, to make that final decision as to whether another movie in this franchise was feasible, was that all-important box office total. Had the movie not done as well as hoped for, that would have hurt the chances of a third movie, but I honestly believe that when all is said and done, by the time the DVD and Blu-Ray sales come into play, MU will wind up second in rank out of all of Pixar's movies and will be close to TS3 in total box office profit. pitbulllady

I'm glad that it's done so well. This makes it more likely that they will make more Monster movies.

Just to update this, as of September 15, 2013, MU has earned $265,455,314 domestically and $730,855,314 worldwide, so while it's slowed down its pace a bit, it's still added another respectable $15,505,339 to its worldwide totals in the past 11 days.
