Chapter 1: New Girl?
Randall looked over at Sully, "That guy sure knows how to make a bad day worse," he said to himself. Sully was rubbing it in that he had beat the all time scare record.
"Alright guys, its lunch break!" Jerry announced. A large uproar sounded as the other monsters raced to the cafeteria.
" Why are they in such a hurry to eat that garbage?" Randall again said to himself as he walked out of the scare floor. He preferred eating by himself at the Hidden City Cafe, at least they had his favorite coffee. He continued to the main lobby. Ahead of him, Celia was talking to Sully and Mr. Waternoose. He decided to materialize into thin air, trying not to get stopped by the blabbering monsters.
"I heard she is a great scarer," Sully said matter-of-factly to Celia.
"Me too, I hope she passes the test tomorrow. I'd love to have a girl out on the Scare Floor," Mr. Waternoose said.
"She has a pretty cool résumé. She sounds pretty smart. A degree in Biology, she took archery for 5..." Celia started gabbering.
Randall quickly slipped through the doors, "A girl scarer? And I thought I've seen everything." He chuckled, and headed to the Cafe.
He walked in the door. "The usual?" Cameron, a pink and blue fuzzy monster, asked Randall as he walked in. Randall nodded.
"So how's work today...?" Cameron asked blending the coffee.
"I came here for coffee, not a conversation." Randall said looking at the other monsters who were giving him dirty looks. He rolled his eyes, if any of them had to work with that richardy Sullivan, they'd be annoyed too.
Cameron handed him the coffee, and Randall threw the money on the counter.
"Have a nice day, come back so..." Randall already was through the door. He walked back to work, Sully and the rest were still talking about this new girl.
"How long are you gonna talk about her? She hasn't even tried out yet." Randall said, was she that interesting?
"Of course Randall, we should stop talking about her because you said so," Mike said sarcastically he bowed down to Randall. Randall rolled his eyes.
"So Randall, are you going to help with picking the new scarer?" Sully asked.
"Nah, I've got better things to do, and besides haven't you already picked this 'new girl'?"
"No, we didn't pick her yet. If she does good on the Scare Test then she'll probably get the job. She is only 1 out of 5 to test tomorrow. Whoever makes it gets George's place. The rest might get assistant jobs." Sully said.
"Well, I think I'd rather scare. You know its my job." Randall started to walk away.
"You know she's a reptile." Sully said trying to get Randall to listen.
Randall stopped in his tracks, "A reptile?" He is the only reptile in Monster's Inc. It would be nice to have another one.
He turned around, "I'm listening."
"So, since you both have invisibility..."
"Invisibility too?"
"Let's just say that you are the same thing, just different colors, and gender obviously." Sully started.
"And let's face it Randall, she has a totally nicer personality." Mike said. Sully slightly laughed, bit turned it into a cough, "And she's way better looking!" They started to laugh.
Randall crossed his arms, and rolled his eyes. "Can we continue to what you were saying earlier!"
"Oh, um, oh yeah, since she is a reptile we would like you to train her. If she makes the job. Because you know a lot more styles of scaring for reptiles then we do. We can't turn invisible, or bend around like you do."
"I'll think about it. Only if she really needs it. Where is she from?"
"Um..." Sully looked at Mike.
"Cariton," Mike finnsihed for Sully.
(Cariton is like Nashville in the human world)
"Oh okay," Randall had to admit he wanted to learn more about this new girl. But he continued walking to the men's locker room. He went the mirror and looked at himself, he brushed back his fronds.
"Hey Randall!" Fungus screeched.
The sudden loudness scared Randall for a and he almost turned invisible for a second.
"Fungus, shut it! I can hear you!"
"Uh, sorry sir. D-D-Did you hear about the ne-ew girl tying out tomorrow?"
"Yes!"
"Oh o-o-ok. If if you want me I'll be in the Scare Floor."
As Fungus started to take off, Randall lunged forward making Fungus scream and run faster.
It didn't take much to scare that little dweeb. He was sciddish 24/7.
Chapter 2 : Welcome to where?
SKYLAR'S POV
"What is it called again?" The round indigo taxi cab driver asked about the 30th time.
"Monster's Tavern." The shy lizard said in the backseat.
"Its in Monstropolis, right?" He asked again.
"Mm-hm."
"According to this map, we should get there in about 15 minutes."
"Okay."
"Is this your first time coming to the city?"
"Yea," she answered.
" So what are you traveling here for?"
" I'm tryin' out for a job."
"Oh okay, do you mind me asking what kind of job?"
"No, I'm gonna be a scarer for Monster's Incorporated."
"Oh really? That's interesting."
"Yeah. I hope I get it."
"Its a good paying job, at least I've heard. So what's your name?"
"Skylar."
"Unique. I'm Jon."
They drove in silence, until the driver finally found Monster's Tavern.
"Well, darling, hope you find what your looking for."
"Thanks, me too."
She got up to her room and looked out at the city's beautiful sunset. From her new apartment she could see Monster's Incorporated. Maybe, just maybe, she would be working there. Tomorrow she had a scare test, apparently they were interested in her resume.
She walked over to the mirror, hopefully she was scary enough. She was all white, and her tail slowly faded into a deep red. She had eight limbs. Her 4 fronds were faded into a deep red also, but down her back was a shiny green-metallic color. Her eyes were green. She had a large mouth full of sharp teeth. Her tongue was red and forked. When she was younger, people mistaked her for albino, but as she got older the red and green-metallic started to form. Just to do something, she transformed into several different patterns she remembered. She then turned invisible practiced a scare in the mirror. She was pretty sure she was gonna get the job. She just hoped people wouldn't discriminate against her because of her gender and species. She heard from lots of locals, and the annoying taxi driver, that there weren't a lot of reptiles in Monstropolis. She decided to go to bed early to get a good nights rest. She had to be at the factory at 7:15 A.M.
Chapter 3: That's Skylar , Not Randall
Randall yawned, he turned over and looked at the clock. 6:15 A.M. In five minutes his alarm was gonna go off, so he decided to get a head start on making coffee.
He finished two large cups of coffee, he was feeling pretty good today.
He still want sure about training the new girl if she got the job. Having no real self-esteem, he wasn't comfortable with teaching his scaring tactics to people. Especially girls of all monsters. If he messed up he would feel like an idiot. Hopefully she was good enough to not need his help.
He got a quick shower and headed off to work, living close to his job was a plus. He didn't have to pay for a cab or get a car, a simple walk was just what he needed to burn off all of the extra energy he had from drinking all the coffee. He was used to walking, when he was younger he had to walk two miles to get to school. So walking wasn't a big deal to him.
On his way there, he spotted Mike and Sully fighting over taking a car or not. Mike was so stupid for buying that new 'Noga 250', it was pointless. What was wrong with a mile long walk? Randall minded his own business and made it to work half an hour early.
He went to the break room to eavesdrop to the other monsters' conversations.
"One of the guys taking that test today is already here!" Betty said to another assistant.
"He's crazy!"
"I know right?!?"
They walked off laughing. Randall didn't really know how that was so funny, he was always here early. Did he get picked on? Probably not, people always got weary when talking about him. At any given moment he could be behind them, invisible, listening to their jokes and comments. That was one good thing abut being able to turn invisible whenever you wanted.
He sat down on one of the chairs in the break room and watched the Monstropolis News. There was a few interesting headlines about different things. He sat in silence when the late bell sounded, he had 15 minutes to stop at his locker and get to his station. He went to his locker and put on some odorant.
"Randall, do you want to come down and see the new scarers take their tests?" Sully asked, surprising Randall.
"No, I'm good." Randall said, trying to figure out why Sully was so obsessed with Randall watching the scarers.
"Alright then. Well, if you see anyone who looks lost on your way to your station, tell them to go to the main lobby. They are supposed to be here by 7:15."
"Mm-hmm."
Sully stood there a few seconds, "You can go now!" Randall blurted out at Sully, wondering why he was still there.
"Oh yeah, right. Sorry!"
Randall ushered him to go like he was a dog. What was his problem?
SKYLAR'S POV
"Make a left at... Oh I see," Skylar said trying to find the right way to Monster's Incorporated. She continued walking, not watching where she was going. She ran into a large orange monster, immediately changing into that color. She looked down at her now-orange body.
"Sorry about that, Randall." The monster kept walking, cheerfully whistling.
"Randall?" She shifted back to her white self. "Hmm."
She continued walking, some people were giving her strange looks.
"Hey Randall, are you going for a new look?" A little monster said walking past her. "What? Whose Randall?" This was getting annoying.
She kept walking, trying to ignore the strange looks she was receiving.
She made it to the front door, she opened it. Not too many people were there.
"Welcome to Monster's Incorporated, can you please have a seat. There is a restroom over there if you would like to wash up before your test," a talkative young female monster said behind a desk.
"Okay," she smiled trying to act as friendly as possible.
RANDALL'S POV
Randall started to head to the scare floor. He decided to go through the main lobby, hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the new monsters. He walked out noticing a green color out of the corner of his eye that caught his attention.
The girl monster was talking to Celia, or more like Celia was talking to her.
She was all white with a red tail. She looked like him just a different color. She shined a green like color, she looked metallic-like. She had one extra frond than him. She walked towards the bathroom in a graceful manner.
A little blue monster went up behind her, "Randall, shouldn't you be at your station?"
She turned around. Another monster nearby said, "Yeah, Randall, you better
hurry."
She froze, he could tell she had had enough.
" I'm not Randall!!" She yelled at the annoying monsters.
Every monster turned and looked at her. Her fronds raised, she probably didn't know she yelled so loud. She turned invisible, and so did Randall. He couldn't see her, so he didn't want her to know that he was watching her.
He went on his way to the scare floor. Sully was right when he said that she looked like him, just a different color. Already, monsters were mistaking her for him. He wondered if she was going to make the job.
"Randall where have you been?" Fungus asked as Randall glided over to his station.
"Oh, I don't know. Where's my door?"
"Coming right u-up sir," Fungus said shaking over to get the key.
"Sullivan isn't scoring today, so maybe we can beat h-him." Fungus said as the door settled into place. He pressed the red key.
"Good luck," Fungus said as he opened the door to the kids' room, Randall ran inside. This went on for about 3 hours.
"Alright gentlemen, lunch break!" Jerry announced.
Randall went down to where the new monsters were taking their tests. When he walked in Sully and Mr. Waternoose were sitting at a large desk, while a huge pink monster made weird noises in the simulator.
"Alright Greg, next!" Mr. Waternoose said.
A short gray and black monster got ready at the door to the simulator.
"So who has done the best so far?" Randall asked.
"Well, to be honest no one. We have this guy and then the girl is up." Sully said.
Randall wanted to see the girl scare. The short gray and black monster did a surprisingly decent job. The only thing he did wrong was that he tripped on a T-shirt, but other than that he was pretty good.
"What's your name son?" Mr. Waternoose asked.
"Uh, I'm Jesse." He said shyly.
"Good job, Jesse. Next!"
SKYLAR'S POV
Jesse did pretty well, she just had to be perfect. She stretched her arms and cracked her back.
"Alright, whenever you're ready!" A older mans voice called out.
She turned invisible and opened the door and closed it very quietly. She glided on the ground on all of her eight limbs. She slid under the bed. She tried her hardest to pretend that this was a real human in a real door. She slid up the back of the bed and held on to the backboard as she got ready to roar. The kid looked around, and seemed so real. She materialized right as she roared. The kid screamed bloody murder, he screamed more as she turned invisible and went right out of the door, shutting it with her tail. She felt really good, she felt like a million bucks. She could hear clapping on the other side of the two-way mirror.
RANDALL'S POV
He couldn't believe how well she did. He would have never expected that from a female monster of all monsters. As soon as she finished Sully clapped. She had the same invisible technique as him. He would always turn invisible when he entered or left a room, it was one of his advantages. Sully and Mr. Waternoose called all of the monsters to the other side of the simulator, apparently they wanted to ask some questions. There was only 5 monsters, so they kept only the top three. The first got the scaring position, second got assistant, and third got a free tour.
" Well, Jordan and Carl, you guys didn't make it, " Mr. Waternoose said.
The two monsters walked out of the simulation room.
The girl was watching Randall, she was obviously just as curious as he was. She must've figured out by now that this was the 'Randall' she was mistaken for earlier. She seemed not to talk a lot, but then again he watched her flip out earlier. She seemed not to really care what other people were doing, although she kept a close eye on Randall.
"You guys are going to wait here, while we go decide who will win," Sully told the three monsters.
Randall decided to go to The Hidden City Cafe for another coffee today, but he waited till Sully and Mr. Waternoose left the room.
SKYLAR'S POV
The large blue monster, the older guy, and the random guy that must have been 'Randall' walked out of the room.
"I don't think I won," Jesse said, "You were really good. "
"Thanks," she said sort of shyly.
They sat there for a few minutes until the large blue monster and the older one came back. The lizard was no where to be seen.
"Before we announce who got the job, I want to tell you that I am Mr. Waternoose and this is James P. Sullivan. One of the best scarers we have."
"Call me Sully," he said shaking all of their hands.
"Jesse, you are assistant." Mr. Waternoose said.
"The new scarer is.... Skylar!" Sully announced.
She was very happy, she even hugged Sully, he was happy for her too.
"When do I start?" She asked, her rich southern accent showing.
"Well, the scarers lunch break lasts until 11:30. So you can grab a lunch and then get to work." Sully said smiling.
"Okay," she answered. She was excited to be the first female scarer.
"Congradulations!" Jesse said to her.
" Same to you, you are now my assistant," she replied back to Jesse.
She smiled, he would be fun to work with.
"Well, I'm going to the cafeteria to eat," Jesse said akwardly as he walked away.
"Okay."
"So Skylar, do you want a tour of the building?" Mr. Waternoose said trying to be friendly.
" No, I'll figure it out. I like doing new things." She said, she shook her head noticing how dumb she sounded.
"Is there any other places to eat other than the cafeteria?" Skylar asked.
"Yeah, The Hidden City Cafe is right around the corner." Sully answered.
"Okay, thanks." She walked outside, she looked around and saw the little cafe across the street. The street was very busy compared to the roads she was used to. The sign went from 'Don't Stalk' to 'Stalk' and she slithered across the street on all eight limbs.
Chapter 4: Coffee anyone?
RANDALL'S POV
"The usual?" Cameron asked Randall as he got in line.
"Yep," Randall answered looking around, the two monsters that didn't get the jobs were chatting in one of the booths.
"She was good, I wonder if she made it?" The one large monster said.
"Mm-hm, she didn't talk much though." The other short silver monster said taking a sip of capachino.
Cameron handed him the coffee, Randall threw the money on the counter.
The Monster News was on, so Randall sat down and watched the TV. He had about twenty minutes to get back to the factory.
"Ah, do we have a new customer?" Cameron asked.
Randall looked over, the girl monster was walking to the counter.
She liked coffee too?
"So what's your name?" Cameron asked, obviously flirting with her.
"Skylar, and you?" She asked, looking over the menu. He never noticed that she had such a thick country accent, but he never did talk to her.
"Cameron. You're not from around here are you?" Cameron asked.
"No, I'm from Cariton." She said shyly.
"Ah, that explains it. So what do you want?"
"Umm, a Vanilla Latte with extra cream."
"Alright coming up," Cameron noticed Randall watching the girl, "You know my buddy over there?"
She turned around, she locked eyes with Randall for a second then turned around.
"No."
"Oh well, you look alike though."
"I've been told that."
"So what brings you to the city?"
"A job."
"Oh, so are you staying with family here or are you living alone?"
"I've got an apartment..." she answered.
"Oh, well here's your latte."
"Thanks," she handed him the money and took the latte.
She didn't seem to have much to say. The other monsters noticed who she was.
"Hey did you make it?" The large monster yelled over to her. She was taking a seat at the bar.
"Mm-hm," she said taking a sip.
The two monsters were getting ready to go, "Congratulations! See you later," the small silver monster said as they walked past her to get to the door.
"Bye," she answered.
Randall looked at the time, he decided to get ready to head over the the factory. As he walked out he decided to say something to the girl monster.
" Hey, we have to get back to the factory soon," he said pointing to the door.
She glaced at the clock, "I know." She got up and threw her latte cup in the trash.
"By toots," Cameron said from behind the counter.
She turned around and gave him a dumbfounded look, "I don't like pet names, and I don't wanna hear em' from you." She left quickly, Randall following her.
"So you're the new scarer?" Randall asked trying to have a normal conversation. "Yep, Jesse got assistant," she answered as she started across the street.
"Oh okay, you know where the scare floor is?"
"Yeah, I looked around before I took my test."
"Oh okay."
She kept walking, and sped through the door to the Female's locker room. Randall continued. He stopped at his locker quickly and went to go meet the other scarers in the lobby.
" Hey Randall, did you meet the new girl?" A curios monster asked.
"Yeah," Randall said.
"She's pretty isn't she?" The same monster asked.
"Um...she's nice, I guess." Randall said. These monsters were getting annoying.
Jesse the assistant came over to Randall, "Skylar, are you ready?"
"I'm not Skylar, she's over there!" Randall said to the small monster, pointing to the girl walking out of the locker room.
"Oh I'm sorry, you look alike."
"Mm-hm," Randall said half irritated. He now knew what she felt like when she was mistaken for him.
SKYLAR'S POV
"Hey, Skylar. Are you ready?" Jesse asked Skylar.
"I think so," she said, "I'm pretty confident.
A red monster came over to her, "Hello, I'm Jerry. I will tell you when to scare."
She listened.
"You are on station 7, next to Randall and Bart. Your assistant here has been taught everything else. Are you ready?"
She nodded.
"Alright! Assistants take your positions!"
All of the assistants, including Jesse, went down into the scare floor to get the doors ready.
"Scarers will now enter the scare floor!" Jerry yelled loud to everyone. He said quietly to Skylar, "Good luck out there."
"Thanks," she whispered back to him.
She got behind Sully, and followed the rest out to the scare floor. The monsters all stopped when they hit their stations. She stopped at number 7, and waited for the other monsters to get to their stations. Jesse stood in front of her. The last monster got to his station, then they had 3 minutes to practice, stretch, ect.
She cracked her neck and practiced turning invisible and into different patterns.
Next to her, a short red monster pulled down different backgrounds and Randall changed into them. She lifted up her fronds to give her the ticked-off look.
"Scare in 7...6...5...4...3...2...," Jerry mouthed the word 'one' and a buzzer went off. Jesse and the other assistants opened the doors. Randall next to her, growled and turned invisible. She turned invisible and slithered into the room, Jesse shut the door.
The room was painted pink and had posters of boys on the walls, she quickly scared the little girl and she left the room. She went out, and Jesse started working on the next door. She noticed the other monsters looking up at the score board. Sully was first and Randall wasn't too far behind. In just that one scare, she passed three other monsters. Putting her in 26th place.
"Good job, Skylar!" Mr. Waternoose said behind her.
She got red faced.
"You beat three scarers with one scare!" He gave her a high five.
The other door came down and Jesse pressed the red dot.
"Skylar," he said getting her attention.
He opened the door and she quickly turned invisible and glided through the door. This boy flipped out and screamed the loudest she had ever heard.
She left the room, she passed two more scarers. She was in 24th place.
She was waiting for another door when she heard Sully and Randall bickering.
"I beat the scare record two days ago, its not the record anymore!" Sully said laughing at Randall.
"I didn't say it was!" Randall yelled back.
"Your just jealous that we broke the record first!" A little green, round monster said to Randall. He had to have been Sully's assistant.
'Uh-hh sir, the do-oor is ready," Randall's assistant said pointing to the door.
"Alright Fungus! I know!" Randall yelled back, he was on his last nerve.
Her door was just getting settled in. She got ready, Jesse opened the door, she scared, she left, and Jesse got a new door.
While the door was arriving, Randall's assistant came over to Skylar.
"You look a lot like Randall."
"Yep, I've been told that a million times."
"Oh okay, well I'm Fungus." He shook her hand.
"I'm Skylar."
"So Skylar, where are you from?"
"Cariton."
"Really, that's cool. I have a few cousins from there."
"Cool," Jesse had a new door ready, "Hold on."
"Okay."
She scared a few more children, and Fungus was busy getting doors, so she just decided to talk to him tomorrow.
"Alright men!" Jerry started, "And ladies! Let's pack it up!"
The assistants turned in their paperwork, and Skylar was on her way out of the scare floor when Sully stopped her.
"Hey, you did really good today."
"Thanks."
"You have the potential of become a great scarer someday. You might beat me!"
She laughed, "Thank you."
RANDALL'S POV
He saw Sully talking to Skylar, so he turned invisible and eavesdropped on their conversation.
"We are happy that we hired you as the new scarer."
"I am too," she said.
"Well see you tomorrow!"
"Bye," she said shyly.
She looked confused as she walked away. She yawned and headed towards the main lobby.
He stayed behind and turned back into his normal colors. He started on his normal route home. She was ahead of him and took the same turns as he did. She stopped at the Monster's Tavern and entered the building. He, however, turned right and entered his own apartment complex across the street. When he crossed the street, Mike and Sully were heading to their house on the other sidewalk.
Mike was talking to Sully loud enough so Randall could hear, "I was right when I said she was going to be better looking than Randall."
Randall had to admit she was pretty cute. Wait, what was he saying? Did he actually like someone, he doubted and shook his head.
He continued walking and went to his apartment where he settled down for some coffee and the news before he went to bed.
SKYLAR'S POV
"Which floor?" The elderly man asked in the elevator.
" Umm, 8th," Skylar replied.
" OK good, me too," he pressed 8 and they continued in silence to the 8th floor.
It stopped and they both got out. His was the first door to the right, hers was down the hallway to the left. She slithered down the hall and quickly and opened the door. For being an apartment, it was a pretty decent size. There was a large living room, connected with a kitchen. The kitchen was a decent size which she liked because she loved to cook. Her bedroom was down a short hall and there were two doors, the bathroom and the bedroom obviously. The room was painted a light blue and there was a tan carpet.
She went back to her bedroom and turned on the local news. Apparently it got out that there was a new female scarer at Monster's Incorporated. One of the news monsters was talking about how she was the first female in the Monster's Incorporated scare team. Then they quickly switched to a stupid headline about a local scandal. She flicked off the TV and went to bed early.
Her alarm went off at 6:15 A.M. she stretched her long body out onto the bed, she yawned loudly. Since she didn't go to the grocery store yet, she decided to go to The Hidden City Cafe for a morning coffee. She turned on the news to check the weather. There was a small chance of rain later tonight. She would probably have to walk through the rain, if it rained.
She got a quick shower and headed to The Hidden City Cafe.
For being so early, there were a lot of monsters outside that morning, probably because it was a Friday.
No one mistaked her for Randall this time, so she was in a pretty good mood until she got to the cafe.
"Hey toots, how are you on this fine morning?" Cameron asked behind the counter.
"I was good, till I came here," she said looking at the menu.
An immature monster behind her yelled, "Burn!"
She rolled her eyes, "I'll take a Capachino with marshmallows."
"Okay, coming right up." Cameron said blending the Capachino.
He brought it out to her, "$3, please."
She handed him the money, and walked over the bar and sat down. She watched all of the traffic through the window. She was happy that she never got a car, she liked walking.
"So Skylar, would you like to go on a...." Cameron said walking over to her.
"Look Cameron, I wouldn't ever want to. Your not my type."
"So what is your 'type'?"
"Um, I prefer normal monsters. Ones that don't ask you out when you've only met them for five minutes."
The same monster yelled, "Super burn!"
"Okay that's getting annoying," she said to the monster.
"Alright then Skylar, we'll just be 'friends' for now on."
"That's fine by me."
"You're just like him," Cameron said trying to prove a point unknown by Skylar.
"Like who?"
"You know, don't act stupid."
She rolled her eyes and threw out half of the capachino, she was tired of talking. She headed to the factory. She was early so she went to the break room. There was a few tables and a big TV. There was two other monsters there eating pancakes. The TV was on the news channel, but it was turned down so she could barely hear it. It was kind of driving her nuts, if you are going to have a TV on, at least turn it up loud enough that you can hear it.
Chapter 5: Getting to know you and listen.
RANDALL'S POV
Since he had nothing better to do, he went into the break room to watch the news. He opened the door to see two monsters and Skylar in there also. He didn't like having other people in there, but he couldn't just turn around and leave. So he found a seat in the back of the room, and looked out the window.
His fronds rose when he heard a high pitched whistle. He looked at the other two monsters, who were looking at Skylar. She hand signaled to them that she wanted them to pass her the TV remote. They gave it to her and she flipped through the channels until she found the Ghost Channel. She first went past it, but then went back to watch it. She turned it up and seemed pretty interested. There were two older monsters trying to 'free' a house of spirits. She sat the remote down and continued to watch the show until Jerry announced over the load speaker that they had to get ready for the morning scares. Skylar got up first to go open the door. She was going to grab the handle when, of course, Sully opened the door on her arm and body. She turned the light purple color of the door. She looked down at her purple color and changed back to her original color.
"Oh I'm sorry, " Sully said fakely sympathetic.
"Be careful next time," she said rubbing her arm.
She continued out to the scare floor, in the mornings the assistants are already on the scare floor when they get there. Fungus had already gotten a door setup. Fungus and Skylar's assistant, Jesse, were talking about how the doors are organized.
"Oh hey Randall, let's practice," Fungus said to Randall.
Fungus pulled down the backgrounds and he stealthfully changed into the different patterns. Skylar practiced changing into different styles too, she just didn't have the backgrounds.
"Skylar, would you mind getting some advice?" Randall asked her. He had an idea on how she could practice.
"No, what is it?" she replied.
"Do you have those patterns memorized?"
"Some of them, a few are from the doors from last night."
"Oh okay, sometimes its good to have different backgrounds to change into because you never know what the kids room will be like. Does that make sense?"
"Yeah, I know what you're saying."
They continued practicing until Jerry counted down. They scared all morning, until lunch break.
For some unknown reason, Fungus decided that he wanted to go to The Hidden City Cafe with Randall. In front of them by about 40 feet, Skylar just barely made it across the road on all 8 limbs before the cars we able to go.
"So she's a coffee drinker too?" Fungus asked as he watched her open the door to the cafe.
"Yeah. I've seen her there before."
"Cool, you guys ha-ave a lot in common."
"Yep," Randall said not really paying attention to Fungus at all.
The sign went from 'don't stalk' to 'stalk' and the two monsters crossed the road.
They opened the door to the cafe. There were a few monsters then Skylar so they went behind her.
"Hi Skyar," Fungus said to her casually.
"Oh hello,"she said back, her country accent grabbing the attention of Cameron who looked up at her and smiled.
"So, do you like it here? In Monstropolis I mean," Fungus asked.
"Yeah its okay, a lot different from where I'm from. I'll get used to it though."
That was the most Randall had heard her talk so far.
"That's good."
"Alright toots, what do you want?"Cameron asked.
"Don't call me that, I'd like a Vanilla Latte with extra cream."
Cameron blended the coffee, "$3."
She handed him the money and took a seat over at the bar.
"So what does my least favorite scarer want to drink?" Cameron asked Randall.
"I'll take the usual," Randall told him.
"Okay and you?" He asked to Fungus.
"Ummm, what she ha-ad," he pointed to Skylar, "That sounds good."
"Okay, coming up."
He handed them the coffee, "$5."
Randall threw the change on the counter.
Randall went to go take a seat by the TV, but Fungus said that they should sit beside Skylar. "Make her feel comfortable," is what he said.
So, since the bar was circular, Fungus sat next to her and Randall was somewhat diagonal to her.
"So, what did you take in college?" Fungus asked her.
"I went for Mechanical Engineering originally," she said sipping her latte.
"Me too," Randall said. She was a lot like him.
"But, they told me that since I was a girl, I would have a rough time getting a job in that field. But if I wouldn't have listened, I would already have a job."
"Why would they tell you that of you were paying to go to their college?"
"I wasn't technically, I got a scholarship for Archery."
"Oh that's cool," Fungus said elbowing Randall.
"What?" Randall whispered.
"First girl in that too," she told him.
Fungus laughed, "What else did you take in college?"
"Well I didn't take it, but while I was in college one of my teachers signed me up for a singing audition behind my back. Apparently she thought I was good. I did go to the audition and I made it to finals in Parker City, I got second place overall. It was just a little audition. It was no big deal, really."
(Parker City is like Los Angeles in the human world)
"That's cool you could've become famous!" Fungus yelled.
"Yeah, but I wouldn't have liked all of the paparazzi. I don't think it would be fun."
"Yeah, it would be hard," Randall agreed.
"So what did you guys take in college?" She asked taking another sip of her latte, sort of changing the subject.
"Well I took..." Randall started but Fungus interrupted him.
"I went for being a History Teacher," Fungus said.
"Oh, so how did you get into Monster's Incorporated?" She asked, Randall wondered the same thing.
"Well I heard they were hiring and since they paid more I decided to try it. I wasn't a very good scarer but they offered me a job as assistant, which still pays more, so I took it and quit college."
"Oh okay, and you?" She asked Randall. He was off in his own world. Her fronds went up which caught his attention.
"Oh, sorry. Umm, I went for Mechanical Engineering also. I did the same as Fungus, and tried out. They hired me as scarer not too long after."
"Oh cool," she said taking the last sip of latte. She stood up and threw her cup away, "I'm going to head over to the factory. Bye."
"Bye," Fungus replied.
She left and Randall and Fungus stayed.
"She's really nice, huh?" Fungus asked. Randall was too busy watching her through the window as she crossed the street gracefully.
Fungus followed his eyes, "You're watching her aren't you?"
Randall watched as she went inside the building then he took a sip of his coffee.
"You were watching her," Fungus started, "You like her."
"What?!? No, I don't," he yelled at Fungus.
"Well, it lo-oks like you do."
"Well, she's nice but I don't like her, like her."
"Mm-hmm," Fungus had a quirky face.
"She is just like you," Cameron said behind the bar.
"Why do you say that?" Fungus asked.
"She is mean and very blunt, just like Randall. You should've seen her this morning," Cameron said.
"See Randall, we all know you do."
"I don't! Leave me alone!" Randall yelled, he threw away his coffee and stormed out of the cafe. These monsters were getting on his nerves. He went inside the factory and headed to the break room.
SKYLAR'S POV
Skylar yawned as she flipped through the channels on the TV in the break room. She was the only one in here so she didn't have to worry about anyone getting mad. Anther monster walked in and took a seat at the back of the room. He was a short black monster, one of the assistants.
Then Randall walked in, he looked ticked off and took a seat in the corner of the room.
He sighed as he sat down. She continued surfing the channels. She stopped momentarily on a cooking channel. They were cooking cupcakes, she knew how to do that, so she kept looking. She stopped on the weather channel, the chance of rain was now 60% and rising. She didn't want to walk through the rain, but that was one of the disadvantages of walking everywhere. She decided that tomorrow she was going to go to the grocery store and get some food, it was supposed to be warm tomorrow.
Jerry announced that the scarers were supposed to get ready in the lobby. So she along with the other scarers, went out and waited in the lobby. The assistants entered, and then the scarers. This time she walked in front of Randall.
They did the routine and they started scaring. She bumped up 3 more monsters, she was now in 23rd place. She was waiting for a door when Randall shot out of the room he was in.
"We've got a dead door over here!" Fungus yelled.
Two monsters shredded the door and gave the handles to Mr. Waternoose.
"What happened?" She asked Randall, curious of what happened.
"The girl tried to touch me, she wasn't scared," he said wiping himself off.
"Oh okay," Skylar said and Jesse got another door ready.
She turned invisible and entered the room when Jesse opened the door. There were 3 girls in this room so she got 3 tanks filled. She continued scaring until 5:30.
"Alright scarers, let's pack it up!" Jerry announced.
Jesse along with the other assistants turned in their paperwork while the scarers stopped at their lockers to get their belongings.
Skylar stopped at her locker and grabbed her wristlet along with her apartment key. She walked to the main lobby to see it pouring outside.
"Aw dang," she said. She moaned and opened the door.
She walked along the stores trying to stay out of the rain as much as possible.
RANDALL'S POV
In front of him, Skylar walked along the buildings. He wasn't a big fan of the rain either, so he stayed along the buildings also. She passed the music store and something caught her attention, she rushed in to go see whatever it was. Randall turned invisible and followed her in the store. She flew to the back of the store on all eight limbs. She went to a rack and picked up a CD.
"Huh, I didn't know they made a CD," she said looking at the song list on the back. She took it and went up to the counter. She purchased it and left, heading to Monster's Tavern.
He materialized back into his original color. He went to the same rack and picked up the same CD. It read 'Parker City Season 15: Full Versions (Live).' That was were she apparently sang at.
He read the names, "Jeremy Garden, Philip Castle, Skylar Matthews?" That must've been Skylar, her last name must be Matthews.
Her name was on the CD twice, once by herself and one featuring 'P. Dott.'
The name of the one she sang with 'P. Dott' sounded familiar to him, 'Lucky.'
He wanted to hear her voice, he was awfully curious.
He took the CD up to the counter and decided to buy it.
"Didn't you just buy this?" The confused cashier asked.
"Um, no," Randall said giving the guy a 'seriously' look.
"I could've sworn...." he shook his head and typed the price into the cash register.
"$13."
Randall handed him the cash.
"Thanks," the cashier said taking the cash, "That was one of the best seasons."
"Mm-hm," Randall said looking at the CD.
"I don't think Philip should've won, Skylar deserved it. I saw someone that looked like her, but why would she be in Monstropolis, right?"
"Yeah," Randall said waiting for the cashier to stop blabbering.
" Oh here, you can have this. It goes with the CD." He handed Randall a little poster with two monsters on it.
It had a large green and orange monster and Skylar back to back. She had her arms crossed with a big smile on her face, and she was wearing a cowboy hat. They had their names in bold at the top 'Skylar Vs. Philip.' The other monster, Philip, had his arms crossed too and was in the middle of rolling his eyes. The writing at the bottom read, 'Tune in Saturday @7:30 Central Time.'
'Hope you like it, have a good day."
"You too, thanks," Randall said as he walked out the door still reading the CD.
It sounded to him more than just a 'little audition,' she was on TV and seemed to be quite famous.
"What happened that she didn't want people to know?" He asked himself as he made his way to his apartment. He got up to his room and went inside. He layed the CD on the counter and went to go find his old CD player. He got out out from under his bed and went to the kitchen to put batteries in it. He got the batteries in and flipped it on. A CD that must've been in it already started to play. He took it out and put the new on in.
The first song by "Jeremy Garden' started on. When the music started the crowd started to yell. He had a strange raspy voice.
Randall went to the next, Philip Castle 'Leave If You Want.' Philip had an okay voice.
The next song was Skylar. The music started, it was obviously country. He could imagine her on a stage with a cowboy hat on. The crowd started to make wooing noises.
She started to sing,
"The summer air was heavy and sweet.
You and I on a crowded street,
There was music everywhere.
I could see us there.
In a happy little foreign town,
Where the stars hung upside down.
Half a world away, far, far away.
I remember, you were laughing.
We were so in love, we were so in love.
And the band played,
songs that we had never heard, but we danced anyway.
We never understood the words,
We just sang 'oh la la la la la la laaaah,'
And we danced anyway."
He listened to her amazing southern voice, the song she sang was called 'We Danced Anyway."
She continued singing and the crowd was going crazy in the background.
He couldn't believe that it was her singing. She sounded amazing. She didn't sound nervous at all. She finished and the crowd went crazy.
He wanted to hear her other song, so her skipped a few others.
The song started, it was just a guitar at the beginning. It was a duet.
P.Dot: Do you hear me, I'm talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying
Skylar: Boy, I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard
Both: Lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
They don't know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I'll wait for you, I promise you, I will
Lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love in every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday
P. Dott: And so I'm sailing through the sea
To an island where we'll meet
You'll hear the music fill the air
I'll put a flower in your hair
Skylar: Though the breezes through the trees
Move so pretty you're all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now
Both: Lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I'm lucky we're in love in every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday
Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooooh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
The two monsters finished and the crowd went nuts. Randall's mouth was ajar. She lost? She was way too good to lose that. She sounded great, and Philip wasn't that good. Her and whoever 'P. Dott' was sounded great together. The song sounded familiar, maybe he had heard it at the coffee shop. He wondered if there was anymore of her songs out there. He looked over the songs again.
He noticed at the bottom that all of the contestants sang one song together. He listened to it, but he couldn't pick out Skylar's voice until the very end.
He listened to her songs again, Skylar was so shy at work, but when she sang she sounded so amazing. He couldn't get over it, he had to let someone hear it. He wanted someone else to love her voice also, people had to know how great she was. He went to bed trying to figure out a way to confront her.
Chapter 6: What?!?
SKYLAR'S POV
" Ah, there it is," Skylar said going through her suitcases. She pulled out the CD player.
She went over to her kitchen table and put her CD in the CD player.
She went to number 3 and listened to her song. She sat down and closed her eyes. She sang along with herself. She continued singing and grabbed the poster that she got with the CD. She found a picture frame and put it in it. She sat in on the dresser. She dug through her suitcase some more and found the cowboy hat that she wore for the picture. She put it on and looked in the mirror at herself. She chuckled and laid it next to the picture frame.
"Huh, I miss it," she said as her song finished.
She flipped through some other songs and played her duet. She sang along with it as she put away the clothes in her suitcases. She put out some little knick knacks that she brought from home. She sang some of the other monster's' songs also, until they were all over. She took the CD out and put it and the CD player on her night stand. She went to bed pretty late.
She got up at 9:30 to go to the grocery store. She first got her morning coffee at The Hidden City Cafe. She then got a taxi to the nearest '$hop and $ave.'
There were lots of monsters there and she saw many scarers and assistants, she even saw Mike and Sully. She got a lot of food and other items. She bought some ingredients to make cupcakes, she had been craving them lately. She bought some things for around the apartment too, like pans, silver ware, and a few plants to make her apartment more 'alive.'
She went to checkout and it took forever because her cashier was a 'trainee.' She finally got out and got a taxi back to her apartment. The taxi driver was nice and he helped her carry her things to her room.
"You've got a lot of different things here," he said laying the flower pot on the table.
"Yep," she said putting the pans on the kitchen counter, "Well, thanks."
"No problem," he said getting ready to leave.
She gave him a few dollars for helping her carry up the groceries.
He left and she put everything away. She yawned, she went to go grab her midday coffee. Back in Cariton, she always had Vanilla Latte with extra cream for lunch and she wasn't changing now. When she came home she would make some lasagna.
She headed to the cafe. She saw Jesse on the way their, parking his car in front of an apartment complex.
" Oh hi Skylar!" He said waving.
"Hi Jesse!" She said waving back.
She kept walking towards the cafe, she was ready for a latte.
RANDALL'S POV
Randall entered the cafe, he had the poster and CD under his arm. He waited until everyone got out of line and he went up to Cameron.
"Hey my least favorite monster, the usual?"
"Yeah, but first look at this!" He showed Cameron the poster.
"What?!? That's Skylar!"
"Shhhh, I know. She sang a few songs on this CD," he showed Cameron the CD, "Skylar Matthews, that's her."
"Oh my, wow. Um I have an idea," Cameron started.
" What is it?"
"She should be coming here soon, I'll play her songs over the speakers."
"Okay, I want to see how she reacts," Randall said.
Cameron put the song right before hers on, so by the time she got there her song would be getting ready to play.
He got Randall his coffee and Randall took a seat in the back of the shop so he could see her coming. She walked around the corner, almost to the cafe. Randall sneezed, which was the signal to Cameron to 'act natural.'
She entered the cafe.
"Hey toots, how are you?" Cameron asked her.
"Same as usual, good until I get here." She hadn't noticed Randall yet.
"Vanilla Latte with extra cream?"
" Mm-hm."
He went back to blend it.
The song before hers was almost over. He got the coffee ready and was just handing her the coffee when hers started. She took the coffee and gave him the money.
She took a seat at her usual space at the bar.
In the song she just started singing. Randall was watching her from the side. She just started to recognize the song. She closed her eyes a second and tilted her head. Randall, for some odd reason, found this extremely adorable. Wait what was he saying? He shook it off.
She was listening, she had to have noticed that it was her. She looked up and was looking for the speakers in the ceiling. She saw one right above her.
She took a sip of her latte. She tapped her fingers on the bar. She was obviously holding something in, it was driving her nuts.
"Cameron, what radio station is this?" She asked.
"Oh I'm not sure actually. Do you want me to change it?"
"Yes please," she took another sip of coffee.
Randall wasn't sure what Cameron was going to do. A different song started to play, all Cameron did was change it to her other song.
"Thanks," she said not quite noticing that it was her other song.
Once 'P. Dott' started the solo, she figured out what was going on.
"You must think I'm really dumb huh?" She said looking towards Cameron.
Randall wondered what Cameron was gonna say, but all he did was point at Randall.
She looked over at him and rolled her eyes. She stood up and went behind the counter to find the poster and CD case that Randall had given Cameron. She got a marker and signed the poster and CD case.
She walked over to where he was sitting.
"Are you happy now?" She asked dropping the autographed poster and case on the table in front of him. She grabbed her latte and stormed off, she left the cafe.
Randall looked at Cameron dumbfounded, he just shrugged his arms and signaled for him to follow her.
"What do I..." Randall started.
"Go!" Cameron yelled at him
Randall chased after Skylar.
He was behind her.
"Stop!" He yelled, she kept walking.
"Come on!" He yelled again, she kept walking.
He slithered on all 8 limbs and stopped in front of her.
"What do you want? Another autograph? Here!" She signed her latte cup and handed it to him.
"What?!?" He asked dropping the latte cup.
She sat on a bench at a bus stop.
"What's wrong?" He asked sitting beside her.
She snickered, "I'm not dumb."
"When did I say that?" He asked.
The bus pulled up and stopped, he ushered the bus to keep moving. It shut its doors and pulled away.
"Well, for once in my life I thought someone actually cared about me and not my stupid popularity. Nope. Just another crazed, annoying, backstabbing fan. Do you know that today was one of the only times that I went to the grocery store without being asked for an autograph?"
"No, I didn't even know you had a CD until..."
"Last night, when you watched me get the CD at the music store?"
" Well, yeah. But I'm not a crazy fan or anything, I just wanted other people to know how good you were. You're talented."
"I'm not that good..."
"No you're good," he said trying to calm her down.
"I got second place. So I was good, just not good enough."
"That's in the judges opinions, not everyone else's."
"Then you apparently like me..." She said quietly.
She got up and walked sideways, scratching her head.
"What?!?" Randall asked getting up also.
"Oh nothing," she clapped her hands together awkwardly.
He was confused.
"I was kidding," she laughed awkwardly.
He did also, still trying to think of what she said. He thought she said something about him liking her.
"Or was I?" She said confusing him even more.
She started to walk away, "What?" He asked again, following her.
"I don't know about you, but I didn't finish my coffee. Wanna go back to the cafe?" He asked, still unsure about what she said earlier.
"Yeah mine is on the ground over there," she pointed at the spilled latte on the ground ahead of them.
He laughed, "Yep." They walked past the spilt latte, "It's still a perfectly good cup," Randall said picking it up to give to her.
"Put that down'" she said swatting the cup out of his hand, "It was on the ground."
It fell to ground again and Randall picked it up and threw it away. She was watching him.
"What? It was littering," he said matter-of-factly. She rolled her eyes and stopped to watch him, he walked passed her. She followed him then. He opened the door to the cafe and ushered her inside.
SKYLAR'S POV
"So, toots, is everything settled?"
"Stop calling me 'toots' it's annoying."
"Okay whatever, why are you guys back?"
"We didn't get to finish our coffees," Randall said speaking for her.
"Here is your CD," Cameron said handing the CD to Randall. Randall put it in the case.
"So do you still want the same coffees and lattes as earlier?" Cameron asked.
"Yeah, you do right?" Skylar asked Randall.
"Yeah, me too."
"$3 for Skylar. Randall its $2."
Skylar started to get out three ones.
"No let me pay for it," Randall said offering Cameron $5.
"No, its okay," Skylar said handing $3 to Cameron.
"No, I'm paying," Randall said as he pushed Skylar's offering hand out of the way and gave Cameron the money.
"Thanks," Skylar said putting the $3 away.
"Geez," Cameron said putting the $5 in the cash register, "This is final right?" He asked before shutting it.
Skylar rolled her eyes. Cameron went back to blend the coffee. He handed Randall his first and went back to make hers.
Randall walked over and took a seat next to the seat Skylar always sat in.
"Here you go," Cameron said handing her the latte.
Randall was a little different when it came to guessing what he was going to do next, but he seemed to be a pretty nice guy. He went out of his way to do things, and didn't seem to expect anything in return. He just did them without any notice, it was just natural for him.
She down next to him and watched the TV. They sat in silence until Cameron came over and sat in front of them.
"So Skylar, are you gonna sing for us?" Cameron asked jokingly.
"Nothing, I don't sing. Well, now anyways."
"Why did you stop?"
She though he was joking at first, but they were both waiting for an answer.
"Oh, well I guess because the music buisness is a hard thing to get somewhere in. You have to be really good to make a living."
"But you were good," Cameron said.
"I wasn't the greatest singer of all time, which is what you have to be to get anywhere these days."
"Did that Philip guy make it anywhere?" Randall asked.
"Nope, he overdosed. He died 7 months after the season was over."
"Oh wow," Randall said.
"Yeah, he was a little crazy to begin with," Skylar said.
"Do you like to sing?" Cameron asked.
"No, I hate it. That was dumb, of course I like to sing." She laughed.
"Did you get to pick the songs you sang?" Randall asked.
"Yes I picked 'We Danced Anyway' and Terry, 'P. Dott', picked 'Lucky.'"
"Oh that's cool. If you would've gotten first place what were you going to sing?" Cameron asked, he obviously watched the show before.
"I was going to pick 'Leave the Pieces'."
"Can you sing it for us, please? What does it sound like?" Cameron asked.
"You really want to know?" Skylar asked she sighed.
"Are you gonna sing?"
"Not in here, follow me to the music store. Sorry Cameron you're not going to be able to hear it."
"I can close for 5 minutes. As long as you promise."
"Promise," she pinky swore.
RANDALL'S POV
She was going to sing? Randall never heard the song 'Leave the Pieces' but it was most likely country.
Cameron put the 'closed' sign on the door and they followed Skylar to the music store.
She entered first and there was a band playing different songs in the back of the store. She waited untill they finished their song, then she went over and started talking to the main singer.
She came over to Randall and Cameron, "I'm nervous." She shook a little.
"You'll do good, don't worry," Randall tried to assure her. He had never seen anyone preform live so, it would be interesting.
"He is going to let me sing once their next song is over."
"Cool," Cameron said.
"How long has it been since you sang?" Randall asked.
"In front of people, 8 months."
"You don't have to sing today if you're too nervous," Cameron said to her.
"Well I knew that you would be constantly asking me too, so I decided to get it over with."
"Good idea, but if you're good we are going to want you to sing more often."
She rolled her eyes.
The main singer called her over. She and him passed out papers to the band members. A few other monsters gathered around the band. Apparently they wanted to hear her sing too.
She cleared her throat.
"You ready?" The drummer asked.
She nodded.
A monster playing the violin started off first. Then an acoustic guitar came in. Skylar got ready, she looked nervous.
"You're not sure that you love me,
But you're not sure enough to let me go.
Baby, it ain't fair, you know,
To just keep me hanging round.
You say you don't wanna hurt me,
Don't wanna see my tears.
So why are you still standing here,
Just watching me drown?
And it's all right, yeah, I'll be fine:
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine.
Just take your love and hit the road.
There's nothing you can do or say:
You're gonna break my heart anyway,
So just leave the pieces when you go.
Now you can drag out the heartache;
Baby, you can make it quick.
Really get it over with,
An' just let me move on.
Don't concern yourself,
With this mess you left for me.
I can clean it up you see,
Just as long as you're gone.
And it's all right, yeah, I'll be fine
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine.
Just take your love and hit the road.
There's nothing you can do or say:
You're gonna break my heart anyway,
So just leave the pieces when you go.
You not making up your mind is killin' me.
You're wasting time:
I need so much more then that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
There was a small pause where just the violin and guitar played. During then Skylar smiled at Randall, and he have her a thumbs up. Randall couldn't believe how great she was.
"And it's all right, yeah, I'll be fine:
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine.
Just take your love and hit the road.
There's nothing you can do or say:
You're gonna break my heart anyway,
So just leave the pieces when you go.
Leave the pieces when you go.
Oh, yeah, leave the pieces when you go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leave the pieces when you go."
Everyone started clapping, Skylar brought many of the monsters on the street into the music store. They yelled 'encore' but she shook her head 'no'. She thanked the main singer and went to go meet Randall and Cameron at the front of the store. Cameron went to his coffee shop so Randall waited for her.
"You were great!" He yelled to her.
"Thanks," she smiled and hugged Randall. Randall didn't know what to do at first, but hugged her back. Randall noticed that she was just a little bit shorter than he was. A few monsters pulled her away, and asked her questions about her performance. Randall mouthed to her that he would be waiting outside. He waited a few minutes and then she came out.
"Sorry, they were asking some weird questions," she said walking over to Randall.
"I have a question," Randall asked her.
"About my performance?"
"No, remember earlier when we were sitting on the bench and you said something under your breath?"
"Yeah."
"What did you say?"
"I don't know," she said smiling.
"Its driving me nuts! I want to know!" He started laughing.
"You heard me, its just you're second guessing yourself."
He was still thinking about it.
"So where are you going now?" Randall asked, he liked being with her and didn't really want to do anything alone.
"I was going to make lasagna. What were you planning on doing?"
"I don't know yet."
"If you want some lasagna, you can come over. I'm not guaranteeing that it's good or anything."
"Nah its okay," Randall started.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I think so." He didn't notice until now that they were in front of her apartment building.
Now you can drag out the heartache;
