i was watching the MI company play because someone posted it on tumblr when i noticed something, i dont know if it means anything or what but seems an odd thing to leave in especially concerning where it was put.... heres the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqaHBfBSSuc&feature=youtu.beif you skip to the part with 'Randall' and the audience booing at around 1:18 there's a guy in the bottom left corner not exactly showing as much contempt towards Randall as everyone else... in fact he seems pretty happy to see him in the play... i dont know if this means anything or what i just found it interesting that pixar would deliberately add something like that.

Oh wow, you're right....and that monster looks kind of annoyed that everyone else is booing so much. He looks like he feels out of place having a different reaction to Randall than everyone else.

OMG IT'S THE ORIGINAL RANDALL FAN
Haha! Nice find lolacherrycolaa, that really is interesting! I wonder why Pixar would include that...? Very odd indeed...My original thought was that maybe this guy was a friend of (slash had a crush on, tee hee) Randall but again, why would Pixar bother to include that reaction? Lots of food for thought there.
On another note, kind of awks how Fungus is revealed as being a part of the whole SE thing in the company play and yet now works for MI as a comedian or whatever. Bet he wasn't in a hurry to go see the play...

That is just SO awkward. I mean, I don't think I'd go a see a play where I worked which has a storyline implicating me as being involved in some sort of (apparently) 'evil plot' in front of all of my co-workers! And why is he still wearing his hat?! Someone's a little over-cautious when it comes to safety in the workplace, haha.

I don't know...that guy still looks like he's just going with the flow. Maybe his "happiness" isn't so much at seeing "Randall-who-really-ISN'T-Randall", but at Needleman, who is playing the part of Randall.

PBL's got a point there. Needleman is a geek...and playing somebody like Randall...there's got to be ONE critic in the house heheh.
Actually on the company play...I recently remembered it and it's impact on the sequel I'm working on. I'll have to see it again but...the fact that the company play tells, at least, Randall's SURFACE involvement in the Extractor...and that it was MADE by Wazowski... It's like adding salt into a wound. It wasn't enough that a FORMER friend banished the guy...but while the C.D.A. label him as practically a corporate terrorist...he makes his portrayal in this farce a form of ATTACK on his credibility.
I mean, when you mentioned about the autism PBL...I got to thinking it makes more sense. Wazowski is riding this thing like a high. And in terms of Randall it's just "sweet payback", only he may not know how far (or even the real reason why) he's going. I mean I know what "kick starts" him in the sequel to finally take a look at things...but at the time...it's just....really...cruel that you bash somebody so much who once wanted to be your friend. Taking a line from Randall I've got...who he says to Sullivan when they meet up again...he'd probably tell Wazowski, as well, about "who the REAL monster is"

They accused US of making Randall a Woobie, but now Pixar took it to a whole new level People new to the series WILL watch MI after MU and they WILL keep both eyes on Mike and Randall in expectation of reconciliation tropes. Oh, what a surprise are they going to be given!

I think Woobie was...what? A character intended for people to feel sorry for? Well...Randall is...but he's not one of those helpless ones. He TRIES to do his best and has one of the strongest wills out there.
Yeah I mean...honestly it's just...wow. I mean, yeah. The "Who's the REAL monster?" line I got for the sequel was intended for Sullivan...but I think it applies to Wazowski too. I mean, they most likely did NOT show the banishment bit (the C.D.A most likely, as BOOM! did (one of the VERY few things they did alright on), labeled him as on-the-run criminal)...so...he was thrown away, labeled a criminal, encouraged to be disliked by at least those in the company...Wazowski's just...wow...some friend.
Actually, additionally... Everyone should remember that Randall GAVE Wazowski a way OUT of things. Now some might think he trusted Randall in this regard, but honestly he just wanted Boo OUT OF THEIR LIVES (funny, wonder if that's how RANDALL felt when he tried to re-conciliate with Wazowski earlier...). But take that in...Randall GIVES Wazowski a way out......and in the end...well Wazowski gave HIM a way out....a FORCEFUL LETHAL WAY OUT...

Also, yeah, Wazowski is [sarcasm] quite a character [/sarcasm]. I don't know if I could fogive someone who'd wanted to befriend me that he tried to kill me, but I know that I would definitely feel some sort of compassion and prefer the right and legal way to sort things out.

Ahh ok. Yeah saw the Trope, but forgot the exact definition.
*nods* Wazowski's just riding a high of "beating Randall". Heck...PBL said at one point that the door that they threw him from was pre-selected. I was unsure...but the location makes sense. It's an out-of-the-way place with hostile humans...and I'm unsure if there was even a kid. But also...it's a perfectly DANGEROUS door FOR.......a reptile.
Now how would Wazowski know HOW this was a perfect door to use on Randall? Well heh...you guys'll find that out in the Series.

Given the whole emotional tug o' war between Mike and Randall there, it really makes you think that after banishing Randall, Mike and Sulley DESERVE to be faced with a group of humans who want to take over Monsters, Inc., as well as the monster way of life.
Whenever I see Randall's banishment, it sort of makes me think of that whole ironic tragedy in 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', where Harry (after witnessing Snape kill Dumbledore) attempts to kill Snape himself - not having a CLUE that Snape is actually Harry's strongest ally, because of his love for Harry's mother, Lily. Once 'Monsters 3' is out, people who watch the banishment scene in retrospect will realize that what is actually happening is that Mike and Sulley are banishing their future best friend, and the ONLY hope for Monstropolis, once the humans seize power.
From a storytelling standpoint, to kick someone out who has been with the story for two films; in this case, how Mike and Sulley banished Randall unmercifully, to suddenly see a certain bleak dead-end point in their story, and see how that doesn't make any sense, indicates that they MUST come back at a later point as a central, pivotal character.
I can easily say that everyone on Boggs' Board is in agreement on this: Randall shows all the signs of being a HUGE, pivotal, anti-hero character in the climax of the series. Just seeing him come back again to do more of what he's done before wouldn't fly with anyone, regardless of how popular Randall might be. In fact, it's not even enough for Randall to simply reconcile and become good on just a relative, moderate level. No, Randall has to become GREAT, to make the climactic payoff worthwhile. He has to have a personal backstory and a relatable life history that will make the story his own when the time comes, as well as pave the way for Randall to forge that everlasting bond of friendship with Mike and Sulley by the end.
