OK, now that the film's out, I can officially post part 3 to this fic! Hope you all enjoy it, and warning. This DOES contain SPOILERS! This dialogue will NOT be a direct copy of the dialogue from the film, for obvious reasons.
Randall moved up onto the wall now, grinning as his white teeth were revealed in the blackened room. He was completely invisible, save for his eyes and teeth. The simulator child was right below him, snoozing peacefully and unsuspecting of what was coming next. Waiting for just the right moment… Randall was ready to strike.
Until an ear splitting roar sounded out, rattling the very foundations of the simulator, and causing Randall’s eyes to widen as he was caught completely off guard. Before he could react, or move so much as an inch, the would-be scarer took a fall, tumbling off the wall and onto the carpet, landing hard as the air was forced from his lungs. Sullivan! That roar… it had been the infamous Sullivan roar…
Stumbling out of the simulator, Randall held his head. He looked up at the screen… and his numbers were abysmal. He’d alerted the child, and the scare had failed. Sullivan had easily beaten him. Walking up to his frat brothers now, everyone was pointing and laughing at him… but why? “Randall! Seriously? Hearts?” Johnny asked, anger clearly evident on his face that he’d “failed.” Randall looked down and gasped, noticing for the first time that his body was all pink and lined with hearts. That kid’s rug! He’d assumed the pattern on the rug without realizing it!
Everyone was laughing now… even the audience in the bleachers. “I… dah!” He exclaimed, hanging his head, at a complete loss for words.
“Randall… I think I’ve seen enough. Turn over your jacket!” Johnny demanded, holding out his hand now.
“No! You… you can’t!” Randall said desperately, backing away a bit.
“NOW!” Johnny shouted. “You may have just cost us the games… and I’m NOT taking any further chances! You don’t belong in ROR!” Those words stabbed Randall worse than a knife to his heart. He didn’t belong… he wasn’t good enough… he was a nobody.
“No… please.” He replied meekly.
“I’m not gonna ask again!” Johnny said angrily. “Besides… I have to go up against Mike… turn over your jacket and get lost!” Randall gulped here, a sad, crushed look upon his features. But it made no difference to Johnny Worthington… he was unmoved.
Reaching up, the timid monster began to undo the buttons on his jacket, closing his eyes as he felt as if oblivion itself were about to embrace him. No more ROR... no more parties... no more... friends...
It was now later that night… and he was alone. Completely alone again. His “friends” had abandoned him… they wanted nothing further to do with him. Sighing and looking for all the world like a wilted flower as he dragged his feet over the ground, he appeared as if the weight of the past semester had finally come bearing down on him like a freight train. There was nothing further he could do… he was adrift in a sea of uncertainty now, and nothing could change that. He’d lost his fraternity… he’d lost his “friends”… and worst of all, he’d lost his roommate. He never should have made these decisions. He never should have joined ROR in the first place... they weren't true friends. True friends didn't abandon one another, right?
True friends wouldn’t have left him alone. True friends were people like… Mike? Randall raised his head. Was that Mike Wazowski entering the door lab? But it was so late… there were no door classes this time of night. What was… going on? Curious, Randall headed for the lab, his feet moving quickly. He nearly ran into several students who were exiting the building, probably the last of the lab-goers as they headed for their dorms. He had to twist out of their way, muttering an apology as he continued on for the door.
Pushing it open, he looked around. Mike had been acting… strangely. First off, his cap was pulled down low over his head… almost as if he were trying to avoid people. Second… who entered the door lab after hours? Mike wasn’t working on his own door… at least not that Randall could recall. As he walked down the hallway, an alarm suddenly sounded. Red lights flashed to indicate an emergency situation, and Randall’s head snapped about, wondering what was going on.
“Someone’s broken into the labs! What do we do?” came a frantic voice from up ahead.
“Get the dean! Get the dean now!” another voice said. Moving forward, Randall peered around the corner, and saw two students running in his direction, the door to the lab apparently ajar. “I’ll get security to make sure nobody comes in here!” the second student was saying, and Randall immediately blended into his surroundings, letting the two students go by. Someone was in the door lab… Mike?
Darting around the bend, the monster moved on all eight legs until he reached the lab. Someone had… ACTIVATED one of the doors! Someone had gone through to the human world… and sure enough, there was a blue MU cap on the floor. It could’ve been anyone’s cap… but Randall knew his former roommate’s cap better than anyone. Not only that, he’d seen Mike wearing it as he walked into the building. It just had to be.
Gulping, he wondered just WHAT Mike was planning… and why he’d entered the… the human world. Looking around, Randall knew he’d only have a short time to make a decision before security showed up and most likely locked the lab down… meaning Mike would be stuck on the wrong side. Reaching out tentatively for the door handle, the monster paused but a moment before he pushed the door open, feeling his heart race as he took the step over the threshold. But what was he even doing? If they locked down the lab… HE could become stuck in here too!
But no… no going back now! He had to salvage the ONLY thing he had left! If he didn’t do this… he had nothing.
Randall’s first sensation was just how dark it was here. He was in some… wooden structure, a cabin maybe. Suddenly, flashing lights from outside caused him to duck down. Heading over to the window on all eight legs, he stayed low, and peered over the sill cautiously. Outside he could see what appeared to be police vehicles, their red and blue lights darting back and forth and casting the interior of the room in an unearthly aura. Outside, mist blanketed the ground, and he could see he was in some rural region… thick trees rose out of the fog like lone sentries. And there were humans… lots of humans. Uniformed humans. They were talking about a creature that had been seen in the cabin, and Randall looked behind him now, seeing rows upon rows of bunk-beds. Summer camp of some kind?
“Psst! Mike! Are you in here?” Randall whispered, but no one answered. The dark room was deserted… the eerie lights from outside flashing on the walls his only companion for now. But wait! Over there! It was an open window, a light breeze gently stirring the white curtains, creating the impression of ghosts moving about the room. Had Mike escaped?
Noises from outside caused Randall to glance back out the window again. It seemed the humans were moving toward the cabin. Not good! Even if Mike hadn’t gone out the window… circumstances were now forcing his hand.
Quickly slipping out of the cabin and into the night, Randall immediately made for the woods, taking note there was a path that led deeper into the foreboding place. His heart was racing as he could hear the crackle of the humans' radios, their footsteps in the grass as they approached the cabin, their flashlights sweeping the scene, and he had to admit, as he drank in the moisture of the foggy air, he wasn't certain if they'd make it out of this. Even if he did find Mike... everything here was toxic... a single touch of a human object and they'd be dead!
Keeping low to the ground and moving on all eight legs, the monster spun and wove his way through the shrubs and undergrowth of the forest, not even sure where he was going. This was a mistake... this was a total mistake. He should've just gone back through the door to safety... but... then again, what did he have left to go back to? He'd been thrown out of ROR, and right now, the only person in the world who even had a chance of giving him a second thought was trapped here... somewhere in these woods. He had to find him! He just had to!
Randall could only picture how terrifying it truly must be for Mike out here... and then too, the monster wondered just what his former roommate was even doing here in the first place! Flashlights played through the darkness behind him, but they were exclusively coming from the cabin now. Steeling himself, Randall pushed on, trying to make as little sound as possible as he progressed, his long, sinuous body resembling a snake's as he moved forward, twisting and turning down the path.
"You WHAT?" Hardscrabble snapped, her eyes narrowing as Sullivan confessed to her that his fraternity's win in the finale of the Scare Games had been illegal.
"I... I sabotaged the simulator so that Mike would win." Sulley said sadly, his face falling as he repeated the words for the dean.
"You cheated!" Hardscrabble declared, her voice acidic and menacing. "You realize the consequences for such an action, don't you, Mr. Sullivan?" she asked.
"I... I know. I'm ready to take whatever punishment you give." the blue-furred monster replied in a defeated fashion.
"This will not stand! Mr. Sullivan, you have violated campus rules and..." Before Hardscrabble could continue, alarms began sounding from the door lab, across campus. "What's going on?" the dean asked, looking around now.
"Someone's broken into the door lab!" a guard shouted, charging now toward the aforementioned building after having received a call over his radio.
"What?" Hardscrabble asked.
Sulley's eyes widened. Mike! It had to be Mike! "Oh no..." he mumbled, starting to turn around now. This was his fault! Mike had been so angry... devastated even, when Sulley had confessed to him that he'd cheated. And now... his friend had gone and done something rash.
"Don't move!" Hardscrabble shouted at him. "I'm not finished with you yet!" she stated, pointing at him. "I'll take care of this. YOU still have consequences of your own awaiting you!" Her wings shot out to both sides of her now, and she angrily took to the air, wheeling toward the door lab before Sulley could even react. In another world, Sulley might have found his resolve and charged after her in order to see what Mike was up to... and he even might have broken into the lab himself to rescue his friend. But as it was... the thought on how to go about doing this never occurred to him. His mind was a mishmash now of confusion, guilt, and doom. He'd betrayed Mike... but he'd also betrayed himself. And now what was there left to do? What could he do?
By the time he arrived at the door lab it was too late to decide anyway. Hardscrabble had severed the power to the door and locked down the lab until the CDA could arrive and deal with the situation. Evidence already stood that Mike had gone through the door... but unknown to everyone standing timidly before Hardscrabble as she backed them away, someone else had entered the human world as well...
Crawling out of the undergrowth, Randall perked up upon seeing Mike. The little green monster was sitting by himself at the edge of a dark lake, studying his reflection in the waters. "Mike! Thank goodness!" Randall exclaimed, revealing himself now as he moved onto the sand and went around a few stacked boats.
"R-Randall!?" Mike asked, getting up with surprise at seeing his old roommate. "What are you doing here?"
"I saw you enter the lab... except you didn't seem yourself and then... the alarm went off and I knew... I knew you had come here. But why? What are you doing here?" the purple monster asked nervously, looking around to make sure they were alone. The lake was quiet... nothing stirred... the fog seemed to wrap around them with silvery tendrils.
"Randall... Sulley cheated." Mike said, finality in his voice.
"Wait... what?" Randall asked, straightening up onto his four hind legs as he walked over to Mike now. "What do you mean cheated?"
"He RIGGED the machine! The simulator! Remember how I scared the living daylights out of that kid and walloped the all time simulator record?" Mike asked.
"Uh-huh." Randall nodded.
"Well, Sullivan had tampered with the machine during HIS scare! I didn't catch on until after the games were over! But when the kid started jumping at even the SLIGHTEST noise I made... that's when I realized! I looked at the controls for the fright settings and Sullivan had broken them so that they'd be set on the easiest level! He CHEATED!" Mike reiterated, throwing his hands out in front of him now to emphasize his point. "And he even had the nerve to confess to my face! He told me that he didn't think I'd pull it off... that I'm not scary! And that... that was after all I did for him... after all he did for ME!" Mike insisted. "Last night, he drilled me on how to be scary... he TOLD me I had it in me! He showed me every trick and talent he knew! He BELIEVED in me! Or... so I thought..." Mike backed up now, sadness evident in his eye. No... it was worse than that. It was the feeling of being crushed... of your entire world turning against you right when you least expected it. And seeing Mike in this state, betrayed and hurt as he was, Randall felt a sense of regret.
Regret over what he'd become this past semester... regret over how he and Mike no longer studied together... or even really spoke to each other anymore. And deep down, Randall knew it. Randall knew that if only they'd been there for each other... none of this would've happened. "Turns out... he's just another liar... just another cheater. He never cared about me... or our fraternity... OR our friendship! He's just a spoiled jerk who gets everything he wants in life because he has a famous dad and a famous name! What do I get?" Mike asked, Randall noting that Mike seemed to be on the verge of tears as the green monster fought with himself, sniffling. "What do I get? I'm just... I CAME here to live my dreams!" he snapped, sitting back down and gazing at his reflection once more in the water. "I came here to be exceptional! But I'm NOT exceptional!" Mike stammered, struggling hard to keep his tears back. "I'm just... OK..." Mike said softly now, his face collapsing as his hardened features crumbled.
"I'm just OK..." he said again. "And... nobody cares about being OK..." He closed his eye here, and Randall could tell he was trying hard not to break down in front of him.
Randall's own face fell. "Mike..." he began in a low voice. And just like that... there was no more cool, collected, and composed Randall. He was Randy again... timid, nervous, and no-confidence Randy. "Mike I..." He paused here, trying to think of what he could possibly say. Mike only trembled in response. "Mike.... if you want to cry... go ahead." Randy said now. "I won't tell anyone... and I... I'm sorry." he said sadly, feeling tears spring up in his own eyes now.
He stuck a finger up there, trying to wipe them away. "Look... I'm sorry that Sullivan did that to you... and I... I'm even more sorry that I... didn't join your frat when you asked me too." he said, trying to compose himself. "Back then, I just wanted to fit in so badly... and you were... no... it's not important what you were doing." Randall stated. "I SHOULD have stuck by you... I shouldn't have walked off... it's been a bad night for me too, Mike. Johnny... he threw me out. I'm not a part of Roar Omega Roar anymore." Randall explained.
"What?" Mike asked, his voice weaker now as he looked up. "You're not?"
"Nah..." Randall shrugged before he slumped forward. "I don't think... I don't think they ever cared... about me. No... they DON'T care about me." he said now, frowning. "They're just interested in their stupid record and always being the best at everything! If you can't keep up... well you're nothing to them. And I... I SHOULD have seen that!" Randall insisted apologetically, one of his feet stamping the ground. "Hell... I DID... see it... but I was too much of a coward to do anything!" he hissed. "See... every time Johnny insulted you or called you worthless... I knew it was wrong. You and me... we were good buds starting out. And now I... I have NOTHING but regret for what I did this past semester. You say you're nothing but OK? Well... I'm nothing but OK too." he explained here. He blinked, clearing his eyes, and looked out over the lake now. "In fact I'm WORSE than OK!" Randall insisted, pushing his uppermost hands into his chest. "I left a friend of mine because I was too concerned with fitting in... and too concerned that he wasn't fitting in... I'm nothing better than what's currently under my feet right now..." he muttered, kicking at some of the wet sand.
Mike said nothing at this, merely looking at his friend now as Randall explained himself. "I hate Sullivan." Randall continued, scowling but not looking at Mike. "I felt... I felt so... betrayed when you and him joined forces. When you and him... even... even started becoming friends." Randall said. "He ALWAYS got what he wanted... ROR, the professors' attention, the dean's attention... and... and you." Randall said. "The first friend I had here..." he raised an arm in Mike's direction, then dropped it so it slapped against his tubular body. "But more than that... MORE than that Mike... I hate..." It was Randall's turn to sniffle now, his face contorting a tad as he almost snorted. "I hate myself for turning my back on you like that."
Randall shook his head, closing his own eyes. "I KNEW I had left you to Sullivan... the one guy I couldn't STAND ever since this year began. And I KNEW that he'd sink his hooks in... just like I was in too deep with ROR. But I'd made my choice... as much as it hurt me every time Johnny insulted and tormented you... I had made my choice. I felt like... maybe in a way... you'd made yours too." Randall stated regretfully. "And I just kick myself... because I... no we BOTH... fell in with people who WEREN'T our friends..." There was anger evident in his voice now, and he bared his teeth as he opened his eyes and looked out at the water again after briefly closing them.
"We never should've done it. And I... I blame myself, Mike." Randall said sadly. "Instead of joining you... I joined Johnny... and you joined OK with Sullivan. And I... I hate that." Randall said. "I'll never forgive myself for doing that." He clenched his uppermost hands into fists. "Because I lost my best friend and gained what? A chance to be cool for four months with people who didn't even care about me? Who threw me out like some pile of garbage after I no longer made them look cool? What did I gain? I was so jealous that you and Sullivan seemed to be... well you know... getting along so well. And that I... I never... seemed to even feel that with ROR. I felt needed yes... but not... like you and Sullivan seemed to be." Randall stated. "You had a friendship... I just had... nothing." Randall shrugged once more.
"And I should've said or done something... and I didn't..." Randall trailed off.
"And now here we are..." Mike finished, looking from Randall to the lake.
"Yeah... here we are. A couple of unexceptional guys filled with regret and most likely trapped in the human world. You know what?" Randall asked now, turning to face Mike and swiping his hand away from his chest. "Screw Sullivan! And screw Johnny! They didn't care about us... hell Sullivan CHEATED because he didn't trust you! That's the kind of crap I expect Johnny to pull... not Sullivan." Randall shook his head here, jabbing his finger at Mike. "He says you're just OK? Screw him! You're MORE than OK! You pulled off plans I don't think this campus has EVER seen in order to win the Scare Games! You get straight As in everything BUT being scary. YOU Mike... YOU might not be so scary..." Randall said, still pointing at him. "But you... you are fearless. And that makes you exceptional. How many other kids here can say they've done what you've done this year? You took a bunch of losers... no offense..." Randall said quickly. "And turned them into the most popular and competitive fraternity on campus! EVERYONE talked about you by the time the final game rolled around. EVERYONE knew it was Michael Wazowski that was responsible for OK's success... you are NOT JUST OK!" Randall snapped, standing up taller now.
"You are the brightest and most fearless student I know... and you were a hell of a friend. No... you ARE a hell of a friend... that is... if..." Randall seemed to shrink a little here, the great confidence that washed over him moments ago seeming to evaporate as quickly as it had come. "If we're still... friends...." Randy wrung his hands together, and sat down on the sand now, looked at Mike with that same timid expression that Mike hadn't seen since the first semester.
Mike stared at him blankly for a moment, almost as if he were looking through Randall to some distant horizon that only he could see. Then he blinked, and finally seemed to focus on the purple monster. "We are." Mike said, smiling at long last. "We are still friends. And you know what? Apology accepted. I don't want you beating yourself up over what could've been." Mike said sincerely, waving his hand slowly from left to right. "We both made mistakes... I should've listened to you and walked away from Sullivan when he goaded me on on finals day. I should've taken your advice. You're not just OK either, Randall." Mike told him. "You're level-headed and I think ultimately... you want to do good. And on top of that... YOU are a hell of a friend. I mean who ELSE is crazy enough to enter the human world chasing me down?" he asked, actually laughing a little here. "Do you KNOW how much trouble you'd get in to? To say nothing of well... the danger and all that." Mike chuckled again.
"Yeah..." Randy couldn't help but fail to suppress a small laugh here as well. "It does seem pretty stupid... but when I saw you enter the lab... I knew something was wrong... and I guess I just didn't think about it after I knew what you'd done." he shrugged here.
"Well... that's what friends do. REAL friends..." Mike emphasized. "They don't have to think twice... or at all... about helping each other out."
"Yeah... I guess they don't." Randy smiled widely here. He then looked back into the woods. "So how ARE we going to get out of here? I'm sure by now they've cut the power to the door... security protocol and all that."
They could both see the red and blue lights twisting eerily off the trees, indicating the human authorities were still investigating. Mike drummed his claws on his chin thoughtfully, frowning. "You're right... Hardscrabble wouldn't risk it until the CDA arrived... or worse." Mike muttered. "OK let's see... wait!" he said, brightening up now and lifting a finger in the air. "I got it! WE can scare the humans on this side! I read about this once! If we pull it off... we can generate enough scream to power the door on our side, and we're home free!" he declared.
"Wha... what!?" Randy asked, looking nervous again. "But Mike... they're... adults..." Randy stated uncertainly. "I... I don't know if we can... scare adults."
"We can!" Mike said, walking over to him now. "And I've got a plan!" He held his hand out for Randy now. "But we have to do it together. You said it yourself... I... well yeah... I'm not that scary." Mike admitted. "But you definitely are! And I think I know how we can get the drop on these guys! So whaddya say? Don't be nervous... we scare them, not the other way around!" Mike reminded his friend confidently.
Randall gulped, looking at Mike's hand for a moment... then grabbed hold firmly, gaining strength from his friend's enthusiasm. "You're right... you pulled off some of the craziest and boldest plans I've seen this year! If anyone can do it... you can." He nodded.
"No... WE can." Mike stated, nodding as well. "Because I can't and WON'T scare these guys without you. So come on... let's go." Mike nodded in the direction of the cabin now.
"Yeah... let's do it!" Randall said, baring his teeth again, this time in a grin as they stepped toward the woods and began marching up the beach with determination.

Remy, I have to ask...since you and I had discussed this fanfic and the scene with ROR that it portrays in PM's awhile back, and since you did see the advanced screenings on which it was bases...when you saw that, DID they actually show the scene you described, in which Randall is kicked out of ROR in front of everyone and told to "GET LOST", with Johnny insinuating that he'd better hand over his jacket and not make Johnny have to ask again? In the movie, none of that was shown. We saw Randall come out of the Simulator all pink with the hearts, and everyone is laughing, and Johnny says, "HEARTS?" We just keep hearing laughter as Randall realizes what's happened and changes back into his default color, then Johnny saying that he has to go against Mike, and Randall saying, "that's the last time I ever lose to YOU, Sullivan", in a very angry tone of voice through gritted teeth, and then it cuts to Mike and Johnny starting on their Scare runs, and we never see Randall again. Later, after Mike realizes that Sulley has cheated, Sulley approaches Johnny with the OK's trophy and just shoves it into his hands as Johnny is offering him what is apparently Randall's ROR jacket, but I really got the impression there that there was something left out, that the scene seemed too abrupt, and a lot of people just think that Randall was being a sore loser and don't really make any emotional connection with him because of it. They last see him angry and bitter, so to them, he's made that complete transformation into a "jerk", and it was all his fault for joining ROR in the first place, just so he could be a "social climber". ARE the two scenes, in the screenings and the movie, actually that different?

PBL, having seen the released version, I can say that from what I saw, there is no difference between it and the advanced screening. That truly is the last time we see Randall, with that disappointing line towards Sullivan. It was taken very lightly as you noticed, almost as if the scene wasn't taking itself seriously.
That never sat too well with me, so hence I decided to add on a few lines of dialogue we wouldn't see, simply because it's taking place from Randall's perspective... AND because a few things are occurring differently.
About the only things I could tell were different were just some minor dialogue changes (I don't believe any involved Randall), and definitely by far the credits' sequence. You actually SEE Randall in the credits' sequence, whereas before it was just a black screen with the words scrolling by.
So yes, to clarify, I didn't see any difference between the advanced screening version and the final film cut with Randall's last scene.
