I'll go ahead an admit straight-up that I'm not the first to consider this or to notice it; my correspondent on DA, who is from the Czech Republic, and with whom I've had some amazingly in-depth conversations regarding Randall, MU, MI and Steven Jobs and Pixar, actually brought this up. I had not actually noticed until he said something, but in the Japanese trailer, there are two scenes which apparently show something disastrous taking place. In one, we see Sulley apparently rescue Mike from the Human World, and in another, there's a door blockaded by police tape, behind which we can see Sulley, Don and several others staring in horror as the Dean orders power to be cut to that door. Now HERE is where it gets interesting: those two scenes do NOT appear to involve the same incident, as the lighting, etc. is very different in each one. My friend had speculated that perhaps in that second scene, in which the power had to be shut off to a door, that perhaps a monster was trapped behind it, and perhaps that monster was connected to Randall in some way, a romantic interest, maybe. He also put forth the hypothesis that Sulley was involved in some way with that mishap, and this is why Randall dislikes him so intensely, while at the same time seemingly avoiding any close relationships with others from that point onward other than with his "brothers" in ROR. This incident could be the "seeds" of Randall's issues later on, especially his resentment of Sulley and later, of Mike, whom he'd see as a traitor. Now, THAT brought to MY mind the question of the role of "Carrie", the cheerleader who has some toys designed after her. We still don't know anything about her other than she's a cheerleader and she's quite attractive, one of the most human-looking characters. I have to surmise, though, that for Pixar to give her a name at this point(none of the other cheerleaders so far have been ID'd by name) AND for her to have some toys in her likeness, she must have a role of some importance and not just be a one-shot, "throw-away" character. Since she is attractive and feminine, I'll wager she'll be someone's girlfriend at some point, so the big question there is just whose romantic interest she'll be? Now, if Pixar is aware of Randall's popularity, they also MUST be aware that there are a lot of fans who find him very attractive "in THAT way", lol; heck, even TVTropes.com knows about it, even if they got the whole reason for that wrong! So, I'm wondering if perhaps Carrie and Randy won't be an "item", and that maybe that relationship will have something do to with Randall becoming so bitter and resentful and distrustful. Does she treat him wrong and wind up hurting him, or does something happen to her, something for which Randall partially blames himself and his own lack of courage, forcing him to change, and partially blames on Sulley? If SHE is the monster who winds up trapped in the Human World, that could perhaps explain some of Randall's apparent "coldness" towards human children, believing that humans ultimately harmed his sweetheart/friend/whatever, while all that time mentally berating himself for not having had the courage to save her, becoming a "loser" in his own eyes? I've said more than once that the real monster that Randall is competing against in MI is HIMSELF, or rather, his own self-image. He's trying to shake that image of someone who is inferior by proving to all that he's not, when perhaps he is the one who gave himself that image in the first place. It's already been hinted at that Randall has some major security and self-confidence issues in MU. I know this sounds "way out there", but now I'm really intrigued as to what went on behind that door that was so awful they had to cut power to it, and just who this "Carrie" is and what role she will play. Maybe, as my friend hopefully suggested, we shall see at the end of the movie, in a sort of epilogue perhaps, that Randall did survive and will be reunited with whoever it is that he lost, IF that is actually the case.

Well that is certainly a lot of speculation....but of course it's totally possible.
Although I do find that they RARELY like to give girlfriends to characters that they consider to be/or become antagonist characters. That could be changing though.

That could definitely be the case. I really wish we got trailers like that in English. American movie trailers are pretty terrible most of the time, and the first ones almost never reveal much plot. And Randall with a love interest would be pretty interesting to see.
Although I highly doubt we're going to get any closure on Randall after MI, it would definitely be nice if it happened. With all the extra MI stuff they've come out with, namely the Boom comic and the ride at Tokyo Disney, though neither are canon, it kind of suggests he's not dead at least. It'd be cool to get a little more info than that, but some things are just left open ended, I guess.

It would be interesting to see him with a romantic interest. I just know that it's less likely that they would give him one than some of the other characters....simply because a lot of these kinds of movies don't have a habit of doing that with characters that are suppose to end up being considered antagonists at some point.
That said, it would be a bit more outside of the box and less cliche if they do give him a romantic interest. I mean, they have been doing it a bit more in movies/series lately...giving antagonist characters romantic interests....but I'm still not really sure if a Pixar/Disney movie is going to take that step yet. I guess we'll see.

I had been considering Carrie (and one of the goth students) and her role...considering the fact that, yes, she is named. As for what happens....I have my doubts. I mean for one, Randall's younger so he won't be able to "pursue" heh heh...some things. Not to mention the guy'll be as shy as a hermit crab, and with that blending of his... *taps head* You know...to give some credibility...what IS it most geeky-teens have, in stereotypes, the most trouble with? Girls. (ok granted, nearly all guys do). Sometimes they are just looked aside...OR...the geek in question is so shy and twitchy that they can't do anything and in the end think of themselves as INVISIBLE. There's some additional food for thought for you heh heh. (Though I doubt that this monster was thrown into the human world, it does give a little more grounding to how panicky Randall was before he was thrown into the human world himself)
I...don't think it's that drastic. Something like THAT would DEFINITELY make Randall hate Sullivan more than we see. Someone who cared about him (supposedly?)...that's definitely a NEED for Randall, and if that's taken AWAY from him, it would hurt a lot more than to cause simple ribbing in the locker room. Randall's inferiority complex (if it's that), maybe be stemming mainly for his blending ability and doubts from other people...
Though I DO like the thought that he could take the situation that "I wasn't able to do anything" and turns it into a drive to become the best he could. I mean that has it's rocky road, but it's...kind of honorable and relatable. He failed at something, and he strives to be the best he could to try and ensure that DOESN'T happen again. That's actually a quality most HEROES...have.
Something about stereotypical college geek/cheerleader (or equivalent) relationships. A theory I had was that Carrie was JOHNNY'S girlfriend. Considering the houses, if I recall, are near to each other, they can spend quite the time together. In general, the cheeleader of the jock "targets" a potential member (be it for the house or just to REALLY get humiliated for personal pleasure)...and starts a fake relationship. Now, this is just for their own real boyfriend (i.e. Johnny)...BUT...in some cases, they start to see this potential member as actually BETTER than them. Suddenly that fake relationship ain't so fake anymore.
I'll take a look at the trailer again with my detail-eye and see if I can get a theory going and compare it to this. While I doubt it was a loss of a gal that hit Randall (to him, that would be a MAJOR blow)...it's peaked my interest.

I'm not 100% that those two door scenes are as separate as you may think- BUT... but... I'm not dismissing the possibility either... I could definitely see 'Carrie' pursuing Randall when he join ROR and gets a little more popular (as sad as the cliche is - cheerleader noticing the geek when he gets 'cool')... And maybe Randall would mistake that as real feelings... As hopeful and as geeky as he is... If Sulley and Mike were somehow involved with her being hurt- of course Randall would be really upset--- BUT!What I think's more likely- is that Sulley will likely beat Randall in the scare games-- and Carrie will reject him because he's a 'looser' (despite him probably doing a great job)... This WOULD definitely hurt a lot- and make Randall feel that winning is the only thing that matters)... Wah- brainwave. Interesting-! Anyway, love the way you think, Pit! ;D

Notice that Carrie has purple skin, too- It's highly possible that young, naive Randy could mistake a girl's sexual interest in him for love, really think she cares about him. A lot is made of GIRLS thinking a guy really loves them when all he wants is to get in their pants, but it works both ways, folks. And even if Randall IS younger than the others, say, just 15, y'all can't tell me that most 15-year-old boys aren't interested in the opposite sex! I've taught Jr. High too long to buy that, lol! I can see the rejection scenario playing out just like that, though-with some chick dumping poor Randy because he lost in the Scare Games, or him finding out that she was only using him for her own status, thinking that he was going to Mr. Popularity on campus, and not wanting anything to do with him when that didn't pan out.

At this point, I literally have no idea what to expect, which is frustrating, but at the same time, kind of exciting.

(I'd rather Carrie surprise us and not be the nasty cheerleader, who breaks hearts, etc!) I really like your idea better, Pit! ;3;;;; And for sweet Randy- he wouldn't blame Carrie (well not totally)... but turn on the two monsters who beat him... And if Sulley or Mike said some insensitive at that moment- instead of trying to help - Oh... Randall wouldn't be able to forgive them... ;3; *sad just thinking about it* At this point, I literally have no idea what to expect, which is frustrating, but at the same time, kind of exciting. It is exciting! I'd rather have a slight 'understanding' and see MU than know all the ins and outs-- that's ruined some films for me... I watched ALL the trailers for Brave before it came to cinema- and- surprise, every plot twist I knew before it happened- I wasn't totally blown away (as I expected) and it was SO sad... All that potential I imagined- disappeared... ;3; Anyway, I reckon this is a great thing! The less we know the better~ But it's still fun to guess! XDD

Yeah...like Watcher said (when I said it tehehe)...I'll look at the trailer as soon as my downloader stops being a twit and see the real deeal.
Yeah there's a thin line on that stereotypical plot. Mix the cool jock/(...what IS the equvilant of a "girl jock" ?) with the geeky girl/guy and see what happens. Either the jock/girl wants to GET something (either like better grades or to learn something important, etc.), or just wants to do a short/long con to destroy the person emotionally for some (or no) reason. Considering Randall looks all shy and geeky at start and becomes more stalwart (I'm getting this from the antem moment. He does NOT look negative at all, it's a solemn moment, but he doesn't seem to be hesitant, especially in his race against Sullivan)...it COULD have been a relationship that did that (either a falling out with Wazowski or Carrie (or equivilant named-female character).
*nods* Losing somebody who cared about you is a devestating blow. Comparing to how Randall was in MI (as we know, his attitude at THAT point is heavily influenced by the whole Scream Extractor project and losing his position as Top Scarer), he would have been more hostile to the two.
A thing about that is, while rejection is good, I got word that the ending involves Sullivan and Wazowski working in the mail room. One thing to note is that the main plot of MU apparently involves Sullivan and Wazowski getting kicked OUT of the Scare Program...and the only way to get back (at least, according to Wazowski) is to win the Scare Games. Now if they DID, they would be back in, so why end up in the mail room? (especially since Sullivan apparently got good grades on the simulator) However...there's also the door situation that Wazowski gets into....though I think this MAY be BEFORE or just after the Scare Games. (I'm guessing that Sullivan manages to save Wazowski by scareing ALL the kids in the room, impressing the staff) ====== *folds arms* I imagine Randall got swamped with date offers when he was Top Scarer...seeing as he didn't have a relationship at the time he lost his position (we weren't actually SEEING her if she was there, but it's still open)...I dunno...the first time you get hurt it's really bad. Unsure if he would want to go through it again if it's already happened. *taps foot* Though...in Revenge of the Nerds...the top girl leaves the jock to go with the geek. Now...if MU is going to homage something similiar...who is it? Is it Johnny or Randall? Is it Carrie? Celia perhaps? Who leaves who, who gets who, what goes and goes? Considering I've seen relationships at the point of "lets be a family", it's NO easy ride, and one-on-one relationships aren't always a picnic either. IF Ran got rejected when he was that young...jeez, I feel for you man. ==== You know what, one sec... Ok there IS another named person as well. Carla. Hmm...but considering her attire...she might be part of the staff, not a student...*blinks* Reminds me a little of Flint...
Sullivan's relationship to Randall in MU is...speculatory at best for now. We know he messed up Wazowski's part of their room with Archie (as I don't have the vid, unsure if Randall's side was messed up too)...came in all pompous on their first class in scareing...and...later on they compete. Wazowski on the other hand, seemed they were friends before...considering Wazowski's dedication to be a scarer, unsure of his............
Oh no....oh no no no...I think I figured out heh...I think I may have been partially right about why Randall had cupcakes heh...

Ok...the scenes involving the door room. Ok at...1:55....now strangely the Dean is pointing at an INACTIVE door. That's right, the door is off, no red light indicator (which is needed to get the door working and works into the...oops...monster secret. Bad researcher.). SO...we're seeing what comes AFTER first. We see her pointing at the deactivated door.....then we see deactivating it...weird switch right? (Actually, found out later...the red switch may be the on/off one. Red switch, red indicator light. Make sense? Now if so...the other button...the one Hardscrabble pushed, MAY have done something else. Probably DID turn it off but...)
Anyway...ok, these few scenes are happening in the same moment. SO...we have two policemen at the entrance...onlookers in the hall...and the Oozma Kappa members. Ok, before Dean deactivates the door, I can see Don there in the doorframe above her claws...Ok....there's the tape there but...ok my sight may be wrong but where....where is the DOOR WAY to get IN to the room? I mean it has a security lock...so what...happened? Did it get ripped off or something? 1:57. Now, the tape is gone, and Squishy is...most likely chasing after Sullivan. I would say he ripped off the tape and then went but...I don't see the tape on the ground.
2:09 Ok, different moment. The door to the room seems to be there (ok...it IS missing in the previous scene....Wazowski's not strong enough to do that, that's for sure). Anyway, yeah, easy to see, the crowd is gone, no police, no tape, no nothing...however...this compares to something else...
2:10 Ok...now this DOES seem to be the same moment. I have the same vid twice and am comparing this to the one of Hardscrabble pointing at the door. Seems to match. And Sullivan's heading into the door a little speedy (guess he tapped the power switch on his way in?), so as to not bust the door. (Wait, something IS different. There are double doors there, no shutters. This may be in the same moment, but it's at a different place. They are NOT in the door room!)
2:10 Ok things are getting dark here. Seems to be near the same moment, police are there. Ok, now something is about to happen...now the room may automatically go dark when somebody passes through the door...considering a Scare Floor also goes into "dark mode"...it's probably so screaming humans don't see what's beyond the closet. Though...it may also be shutters coming down...
2:11 Ok, Wazowski loading a canister...and ok this is weird...the red button...doesn't that turn ON the door? So they have two different buttons for the door? The upper left for on and lower right for off?
2:12 Ok...I'm not sure WHERE this is exactly, but I DO spy canisters to the side. This is a really interesting scene...somebody welded and blew open steel shutters...we don't SEE them...BUT...we can see a little bit of foot there... Given the lower lighting....this may be...well we've seen the doorway, which is the north wall. We've seen the canister shelf, that's the left wall. We've seen the entrance...that's the south wall. But...we haven't seen the right wall yet of the door room. THIS may be it. Makes some sense. Light was coming in, shutters came down, making the room dark as we see in the previous shot. Now here's my guess...CDA? (Update...ok MORE confident that this is the same room. For one, I noticed that there ARE shutters built into the windows of the room. They must activate JUST like the shutters on a Scare Floor. But more than that...as mentioned where the OK are is different, yet the lighting IS going down. I think I know what this is. Lockdown. That's right. The building has a lockdown procedure. Over the top you say? Well remember, children are toxic, and Wazowski may have put everyone in danger. So, the whole building is locked down. And guess who would have the guts to break in to a lockdown building to handle the problem? Why...the professionals of course.)
2:13 Ok here is the left wall I mentioned, where the canisters are. Now the lights are flickering. I'm kind of unsure of...what's going on exactly. We know that electricity in the monster world goes nuts when humans laugh, correct? But canisters are sealed and...ok...could this be happening while Sullivan was in the door saving Wazowski? If so...I don't know how that would affect the canisters...actually there are some differences. When we see JUST the canisters...we see them shaking violently. In the next shot, some are firing off, but not shaking quite as much. So...whatever is going on...it's...it's BIG. And dangerous because these are full canisters. It's like in Die Hard (or something) when you get a tube full of compressed air going straight for you...it will HURT (if not outright be lethal).

I'm glad that people usually mature and grow out of it....and it's not to say that all teens are like that, just on average as a whole they tend to come off as more shallow than anyone else. A lot of people have an identity crisis around that age too, which is I guess also part of it. My first boyfriend actually dumped me when he became popular and the other 'cool' kids he was now popular with thought I was un-cool. That's how it works....it's lame but it happens.

That would be cute, since they are so different! When it comes to Randall x human 'ships, I've always thought that Randall and Abby from "NCIS" would make an adorable couple, and you can't tell me THAT chick would not leap at the opportunity to date a real, honest-to-goodness MONSTER! She is from New Orleans, too, so there's that particular connection.
